ServSafe: Food Safety Certification

Meeting the Spiritual Needs of the Critically Ill Prepares nursing staff and caregivers to respond effectively to the spiritual needs of patients within their care. This course provides a framework for spiritual care; reviews professional standards; identifies barriers to care, criteria for spiritual distress, guidelines for intervention, and reportable conditions; and how to develop care plans. Instructor: RoseMarie Jackson.

Do you need to be certified in food safety and sanitation? This nationally-recognized course meets Mass. Food Code specs and includes a course book, instruction, exam and certificate valid for five years (with a passing grade of 75 percent). No senior discounts. Required book must be picked up one week prior to the class. Exam included in course price.

ServSafe Re-certification

Review and take the exam in food safety and sanitation. If your certification is 5+ years old, you may need to be re-certified.

Senior Citizen Fee Reduction

Senior citizens, 60 and over, eligible for a tuition/fee discount, may register, on a space-available basis, within seven days prior to the start of a noncredit course.

The fee for that course will be reduced by 50%. Online courses and textbook cost are not eligible for a fee reduction.

Website Fundamentals With Photoshop and Dreamweaver

Intensive hands-on introduction to building effective and informative websites. Web theory, navigation, viewer interactivity and Internet fundamentals are explored. Gain an overview of two of the most commonly used website-building software programs, Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Optional Extended Care for the Summer Programs Children can be dropped off at the Fitness & Wellness Center between 8 AM – 8:50 AM and picked up between 3 PM – 5 PM for a cost of $25 per week per child. Children will be picked up at 8:50 AM by a program assistant and walked directly to the main building. The assistant will walk participants back to the fitness center at 3 PM. There is no extended care for half day programs that end before 3 PM.

A two week introduction to the wonderful world of theatre for the very young student. This program combines theatre, games, pantomime, music, dance and creative play. Can You Dig It? (ages 7-12)

Archaeology and paleontology seem like big words to kids. Now Sciensational Workshops for Kids makes them come alive. Each child will partake in a simulated fossil excavation, uncovering the different bones of dinosaurs and then assembling the bones to form a completed three dimensional dinosaur to be taken home. Students will identify and make plaster replicas of dinosaur fossils; identify 20-million year old shark's teeth; work with and learn to identify rocks and mineral; and grow beautiful crystals to take home. The afternoon component of the program offers fun camp songs, games, activities, arts and crafts, and more. T-shirt and supplies included.

Students will see, first-hand, the many gears, circuit board, microphone, and easy to assemble mechanical drive system.

Kids will search for the evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery. They will: dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type using simulated blood, examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances and much more.

Participants will then use their skills to solve crimes of the century. The afternoon component of the program offers fun camp songs, games, activities, arts and crafts, and more.

They will make and take home a wide assortment of toys designed to teach them science concepts in a handson way including: a crystal tree, an energy bead bracelet with amazing beads that turn from white to a rainbow of colors before your eyes; a working electric motor; silly putty; glowing goo; green flubber and other cool projects. They will make bubbling blobs while exploring the properties of a density tube; design their own sharpie pen T-shirt and learn some cool chemistry (student supplies a 100% cotton T-shirt); and make ice cream in an amazing, different, Sciensational way! Would you like a deeper insight into the world of paranormal investigation? If so, Paranormal Camp is for you. Even if you’re a skeptic, this course will provide you information on the possibilities of haunting and also using scientific methodology to debunk things. We will study the different types of paranormal activities, and use the essential investigating equipment, the investigating process and how to deal with the aftermath of an investigation. The program will culminate with your paranormal investigation team conducting an actual investigation and a video report of your findings.

Monotype Printmaking

Learn basic monotype techniques and safe printmaking methods, for the artist and environment. In this course you will: begin with a discussion on traditional techniques and the history of monotypes; focus on monotype techniques through discussion and demonstration; and pull many monotype prints. Work with both oil-based inks and water-based akua–kolor, which are non-toxic with light-fast pigments and binders. They are a slow drying water-based ink that can be rolled, drawn or brushed onto a plate and have the same workable qualities as oil-based inks. Explore these techniques and others using safer approaches and eliminating the toxic solvents traditionally used in printmaking. Age Requirements Students must be at least sixteen years of age to register.

Students under age eighteen must provide a letter from the last school they attended. They must also have a parent or guardian sign a verification of eligibility form.

Other Requirements Proper ID is required: either a current driver’s license or government photo ID. All registrations for re-test must also be in person. The fee for re-tests is $15 each; this fee is also nonrefundable. The test is available in English and Spanish on a limited basis. A large print version is also available in English.

Students must request the large print version in advance.

Limited copies are available. Persons with a disability who may require accommodations to participate in a fair testing session should contact the GED chief examiner at (978) 630-9173 to determine eligibility. Requests should be made prior to registering for any test session.

*Students who fail to show up for their scheduled exam will be charged $25 for each test they miss.

Age Requirements Students must be at least sixteen years of age to register.

Students under age eighteen must provide a letter from the last school they attended. They must also have a parent or guardian sign a verification of eligibility form.

Other Requirements Proper ID is required: either a current driver’s license or government photo ID. All registrations for re-test must also be in person. The fee for re-tests is $15 each; this fee is also nonrefundable. The test is available in English and Spanish on a limited basis. A large print version is also available in English.

Students must request the large print version in advance.

Limited copies are available. Persons with a disability who may require accommodations to participate in a fair testing session should contact the GED chief examiner at (978) 630-9173 to determine eligibility. Requests should be made prior to registering for any test session.

Adult Basic Education & GED Preparation The Regional Adult Education Center at MWCC offers Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED preparation, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
