THE QUEEN’S HALL PRESENTS CAT’S CLUB; Cat’s Club is led by critically acclaimed singer Cathie Rae and includes some of Scotland’s finest jazz musicians. The band lineup features with Graeme Stephen on guitar, Paul Harrison on piano/ organ, Brazilian Mario Caribe on bass and Stu Ritchie on drums. This show will feature Cathie’s own songs and arrangements from her latest album Lucky, which was premiered during the 2013 Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival.

Her music has been described as mining the same song seam as Nina Simone and Bill Withers. Hailing from Scotland’s biggest jazz dynasty you can expect a nod towards the great jazz tradition too.

We have had continued calls for jam sessions and open mics, but the big hall can be a bit scary, especially when there are lots of people watching and even milling about at the end. With this in mind, and with the help of St Boswells Cricket Club, we are introducing Bread & Jam, a terrible pun on a simple concept.

This is how it works: From 8pm, turn up at the Cricket Club (just round the back of the Buccleuch Arms Hotel) with your instrument, voice or just a willingness to listen and enjoy the music. Feel free to bring an amplifier if you need one, but the room is small enough to be acoustic. If you feel an urge, and there is no one else doing it, play your instrument, sing your song, tell your story or whatever you want to do. We encourage people to join in, but if you want to do it alone then

just ask. In the meantime, get drinks from the Cricket Club bar, listen to other people, and enjoy the soup and bread we’ve laid on (that’s where the “bread” bit comes from).

Aged 12, she performed Bruch's Scottish Fantasy at St James' Palace in London for Yehudi Menuhin's 60th birthday celebration. Between 1990 and 1995 Andrea studied in Moscow at the Russian Gnesins Academy of Music, gaining her Masters Degree and Diploma in Solo Performance.

Andrea currently teaches violin at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Djordje Gajic began his musical studies aged 6 in Serbia, graduating from the Russian Academy of Music in 1993. Since then he has won many international competitions and performed with several international orchestras.
