Multi award-winning Scottish singer Emily Smith and New Zealand born songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Jamie McLennan have been making music together for over fifteen years. Having spent much of 2016 off the road (with Emily on maternity leave), the couple took time off to focus on writing new material. The fruits of their labours were two albums, the first of which Unplugged was released in April 2018. BUY YOUR 2020 TICKETS @ (few remaining) @ www.tartanheartfestival.co.uk

Due to an unprecedented level of demand Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2020, in Beauly, Inverness-shire, has sold out of all adult, child and campervan tickets a record 12 months ahead of the 17th edition of the festival next summer - 30 July to 1 August. The 2019 edition sold out the following April. Bella released tickets one month earlier than in previous years in order to allow its monthly payment plan to be extended to 11 months, a month longer than in previous years. This was done in order to make the festival more affordable to many attendees. Ticket prices were also frozen at 2019 levels

"Belladrum has held back 1,000 tickets for diehard fans of artists featured in its first headliner announcement at the end of the year"

The festival has held back 1,000 which will be put on sale for diehard fans of artists featured in its first headliner announcement which Bella hopes to make towards the end of the year. "We deeply appreciate the enthusiasm shown for the festival by our family audience which comes off the back of our most successful edition of the festival yet which happened only just over a week ago," said festival spokesman Dougie Brown. "We have put the same number of tickets as in 2019 on sale including free kids' tickets and have simply been delighted by how keen our loyal audience is to come back again next year." Current adult ticket holders will be given preferential treatment with the initial allocation of child tickets being released to them first on a pre-sale link via Skiddle and any unused tickets will be put on general resale shortly afterwards. Resales will be made available at 10am on 1st October and then continue to take place on the 1st of each month going forward. Glamping and Club Clan Bella tickets are also nearly sold out. The festival has been brought forward a week in 2020 in order not to conflict with the Black isle Show and Moy Game Fair but the event still runs Thursday to Saturday. Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival is an all ages family event and the largest camping and outdoor festival in Scotland. The organisers have urged those who have missed out on tickets not to fall for offers for ticket scammers and to only buy tickets via Skiddle’s resale function when live or physical tickets via Twickets.

Family fun in the heart of the city at True North music festival Aberdeen :: 19-22 September :: www.facebook.com/TrueNorthFest BUY YOUR TICKETS @ www.aberdeenperformingarts.com/made-in-aberdeen/true-north

Music fans in the North East will be treated to a diverse line up of artists and musicians at next month’s True North Festival, and with more family friendly events than ever, younger fans will be spoiled for choice too. The award-winning festival is set to take over Aberdeen’s Music Hall, the Lemon Tree and various other city centre stages from 19-22 September, with headliners including The Twilight Sad on Saturday, and a specially curated tribute to Scottish pop music with DJ Vic Galloway on Sunday, Rip it Up Live. Younger music fans have been well catered for, with family events taking place throughout the weekend. Making a welcome return to the festival on Sunday, September 22 at the Lemon Tree will be the popular My First Gig, where young gig-goers can let their hair down and dance the afternoon away, while their parents are looked after in the ‘adult creche’ downstairs. Aimed at 9-12 year-olds and with face painting, glitter tattoos, and ice cream to enjoy, this is the perfect way to enjoy your first ‘parent free’ gig, with singer Myke Black providing the entertainment with covers from chart favourites including Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran, George Ezra and more. The festival’s family programme kicks off at 7pm on Thursday, 19 September at the Music Hall with Whirlygig. This high energy performance puzzle is ideal for ages 7 and over, with four musicians all boldly attempting to play too many instruments and too many pieces. Helped and hindered by their fellow musicians, their job is to perform the music on the score without it falling apart, creating a uniquely absurd and dramatic live gig experience! The 21st Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival takes place from 13-15 September, since it began the Festival has presented an uncompromisingly highquality artistic programme a showcase of everything that is new and exciting in the Scottish jazz scene, with some very special international guests.

Bria Skonberg :: www.facebook.com/briamusic/

The music is presented in the most unusual and atmospheric surrounds - from bird sanctuaries to distilleries – against the beautiful backdrop of the most southerly island in the Hebrides. There are world premieres; international visitors; exciting contemporary jazz; a classic singer; a blues legend, some great piano trios; and some get-down funky music. The charismatic Canadian trumpet star and singer, Bria Skonberg, visits Islay for the first time. Highly musical, she’s a champion of classic hot jazz – from earliest jazz styles across classic swing, and she’s guested with U2 and Dave Matthews Band too Blues legend Maggie Bell makes her Festival debut with a new show that both highlights her amazing vocals and eavesdrops into her 50 years of showbiz stories.

Here on the south-eastern edge of Islay, the distillery works its magic on a wildly romantic site by the sea, looking across a small tight bay to the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle, a 13th century base of The Lords of the Isles. Not a bad analogy for jazz.” The Festival is co-promoted by jazz specialists, Jazz Scotland and the island’s premier arts promoters, The Islay Arts Association. Stuart Todd, Chair of the Association, and the man who set the ball rolling in getting the Jazz Festival started, is still amazed at the way the Festival has developed. “Audiences and musicians are smitten with the combination of nature and art, and the sense of community which is central to the experience of living in Islay and which can be shared even on a weekend visit”.

You will be one of a maximum of only 250 people seeing these amazing bands up close. A festival to enjoy an unspoilt jewel of the Hebrides as well as first class traditional music. Loopallu

Ullapool 27-28 September The 15th and final Loopallu! On paper they said it wouldn’t work, a festival in late September in a remote village on the West Coast of Scotland 60 miles from the nearest town. It’s been a long and happy road, but Ullapool has become a victim of its own success. When we started out we chose the end of September to give local businesses one last boost before the long winter set in. Indeed, it soon became the busiest weekend of the year for many businesses, bringing millions of pounds into the area over the years. However, as the attraction of coming to the NW Highlands has grown over time, accommodating the Loopallu faithful has become increasingly difficult. Now September has become part of the height of the season. We may come back some day, at a different time of year and in a different format, but for now it’s time to reflect on friends made and good times had, despite the West Coast weather. So, to go out on a high we thought we would bring back some of our favourite acts from the past fourteen years. www.loopallu.co.uk

Isle of Jura Music Festival Jura 27-29 September

By bringing in top class musicians every year to perform and run workshops, the instruction and inspiration they provide is invaluable. Through our youth education programme we have been able to help through a small annual grant, a number of young people to fulfill their potential and follow their chosen path.

The Fiddler of Strathspey Festival, held in Grantown on Spey annually, is now in its fifth www.jurafestival.com year, and is a celebration of the work of Angus Cumming and the rich Strathspey tradition. It promises to provide a stage for musicians young and old, novices and masters.
