ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES Patrick Langham is an experienced educator and performer with a twenty-year career at University of the Pacific. As professor and director of jazz studies, Langham developed Pacific's jazz studies degree programs. During this time Langham has traveled to Spain as a visiting jazz conductor, overseen student performances in Paraguay, and directed groups at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Reno Jazz Festival, and Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. As a saxophonist, he has performed with distinguished jazz artists including Lewis Nash, Bob Hurst, Donald Brown, Tom Harrell, Essiet Essiet, Terell Stafford, and Louis Hayes.

Michael Dease is one of the world’s eminent trombonists, lending his versatile sound and signature improvisations to over 200 recordings and groups as diverse as Grammy-winning artists David Sanborn, Christian McBride, Michel Camilo, and Alicia Keys. Born in Augusta, Georgia, he played the saxophone and trumpet before choosing the trombone at age seventeen. In 2001 Dease moved to New York City to become part of the historic first class of jazz students at the Juilliard School, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and quickly established a reputation as a brilliant soloist, sideman, and bandleader.

PACIFIC JA ZZ ENSEMBLE The Pacific Jazz Ensmble is an award-winning big band in the tradition of Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The ensemble performs classic big band literature and embraces the music of contemporary composers and arrangers. They have an impressive list of credentials having been invited to perform at jazz festivals around the West Coast.
