Dean’s Welcome

3

Dean’s Welcome The demands made on executives are steadily growing. In a dynamic and increasingly complex world they must make responsible decisions based on facts, develop future-oriented concepts and keep pace with the steady advance of knowledge. The leadership role, however, also requires a broad general knowledge, a wide range of management skills and a clear perspective for people and the working environment.

With our MBA in General Management we therefore developed an offer which enables professionals to keep taking over responsibility in their company and at the same time enhancing their management know-how with lasting effect. This program is on the one hand very compatible with the professional activities of the participants and, on the other hand, offers them a regular intensive study environment within the MBA classes.

Besides modern management studies, entrepreneurial thinking and international competence, the Executive MBA program in General Management at Munich Business School (MBS) also conveys self and social competence. The courses of study at MBS are focused on people. We want to encourage you not only to learn, but also to reflect on problems and take the appropriate action. An MBA is a challenge and an experience that widens the personal horizon and opens up perspectives for the future.

Today it is becoming more and more important from which institution you receive your MBA. We are committed to help you to find out whether MBS is the right choice for you and your career: Meet us at one of the MBA fairs; visit us in Munich for one of our MBA Info Sessions or a personal consultation. There is also the opportunity to sit in an MBA class to get a personal impression of the Munich Business School MBA. We are looking forward to getting to know you personally.

Our collaboration with many companies had a significant influence on the development of our MBA program. Through our constant contact with many businesses, we have come to the conclusion that it is not possible for employees with many responsibilities to leave their occupation for a significant amount of time to further their education.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Baldi Dean Munich Business School “Being close to business enables us to know early and exactly the requirements that companies have for their leaders. Meeting these needs by consequentially aligning with them, gives the students of Munich Business School excellent job perspectives.”

It’s Your Choice

It’s Your Choice Some consider an MBA as a step higher on the career ladder or an opportunity to boost salary. An MBA enables current managers to enhance their leadership and management skills while also giving prospective managers the tools to be successful in their growing career. An MBA also builds a professional network which is vital in a competitive job market. It’s a further degree obtained after several years working in the field, thus enabling students to correlate practical learning within their current jobs.

The MBA program at a glance The part-time MBA of Munich Business School is especially designed for mid-career, high-potential professionals seeking to complement and enhance their previous education as well as their work experience by gaining state-of-the-art management knowledge and skill with an international focus. Plenty Opportunities...

Participants in an MBA study program have decided on such a study program for various reasons: In many cases they are striving for in improvement of the professional state and broadening the career horizon. Of course it's also about expanding existing knowledge and to gain new knowledge. The conclusion of an MBA study program oftentimes also results in a salary improvement. And although even an MBA does not provide any guarantees, the career and salary history oftentimes also improve in multiples. The study program qualifies to demanding occupations in management and due to its flexible character also facilitates a change between individual companies and fields. Unlike other masters programs, which are oftentimes highly theory oriented, an MBA is highly reality-oriented. It's mainly about also being able to apply the acquired knowledge to daily life and the job. Exactly this perspective makes an alumnus of an MBA study program so attractive to employers.

MBAs are predicted to have increasingly good chances in the job market because the title is internationally recognized. This international recognition of the degree is probably the biggest advantage. Especially in today's growing globalization companies require professionally versed and worldwide deployable staff. Inter-cultural compe- tence, immersion of language skills paired with knowledge of general management account for a large part of the MBA curricula.

It's important that the right MBA study program is selected quite individually. If in your professional life you have already specialized yourself in a specific direction, it typically makes more sense to align your MBA study program in a more general direction and to acquire abilities and skills such as general management, soft skills and self-competence. When selecting an MBA one should therefore first put plenty of thought into what is particularly important to one's personal continuing education. After all, the possibilities of an MBA are plenty. So ask yourself which of your strengths you would like to expand on and where your interests and abilities lie. For example, how would you respond to the following questions? ❚ Do I have the formal requirements for an MBA? (first college degree and at least two years of work experience) ❚ Do I envision my future to be in an international field and do I enjoy working with personalities from other countries and cultures? ❚ Which professional goals am I pursuing? Are my management and soft skills required for this purpose up to date? ❚ Do I enjoy working in small groups with plenty of interaction? If you answered yes to most of these questions, then the MBA program of the Munich Business School is just right for you to advance professionally, broaden your horizon and to also increase not only your personal but also your professional market value.

Our Approach Not only what you learn but also how you learn is important to us. At Munich Business School small workgroups with a high diversity and an intimate atmosphere create an optimal learning environment. They allow students to work closely with their lecturers and their classmates: ❚ Teaching Style Adheres to a high standard of teaching including theoretical teaching along with practiceoriented case studies and project work. ❚ Interdisciplinary Approach Real-life projects allow students to use the theoretical training in a realistic scenario. ❚ Entrepreneurial Spirit Individuals learn how to have a good grasp of new business ideas and use creativity and innovation to implement these ideas. ❚ Dedicated Faculty The program is taught by a competent, experienced team of lecturers who have excellent educational credentials and field experience. As the first accredited private university in Bavaria it is our mission not only to provide students with the ideal learning environment but also with vital tools which they need to succeed in a competitive business environment.

Part-Time Format The part-time study program is divided into three terms over a period of 24 months. Each term begins with a full-time, intensive week at MBS. Classes then meet every second weekend, Friday afternoon and Saturday, which fits perfectly into a business professional’s schedule. In addition, the program includes two week-long study visits at SDA Bocconi in Italy and Singapore Management University. Munich is within easy reach of many German and European cities. Classes are held at the MBS city campus conveniently located just four subway stops from Munich Central Station.

14 Munich

"Munich ... it is a kind of German heaven“ (Thomas Wolfe)

Munich, which is world-famous for its one-of-a-kind combination of economic power and quality of life, is an absolutely perfect choice for students of International Business. The metropolis is one of Europe’s leading business regions. World-class German companies, including BMW, Allianz and Siemens, have their headquarters in Munich. Global players, such as Microsoft, Intel and General Electric, as well as numerous startups, have long come to appreciate the benefits of Munich as an economic region. More than 8,000 new technology corporations are settled in Munich. Almost a third of Germany’s 25 largest software companies can be found in Greater Munich. Other growth-driving engines are the media industry as well as the life sciences industry. The numerous successful and interesting companies, who are located in the immediate neighborhood, provide Munich Business School with an excellent foundation for its study concept of consistent practice orientation. To sustain and further expand this ideal teaching environment, MBS has been maintaining close, continuous and committed working partnerships with regional companies for many years. However, the economic landscape is not the only attribute that makes Munich such an attractive place to study. As a “global city with a big heart”, Munich has made a name for itself as a place that melds Bavarian tradition and global culture. It is the one and only place where you can join the celebrations of the world’s largest folk festival, the Oktoberfest, right after paying a visit to one of the world-famous museums of the Pinakothek. The Frauenkirche, the Englischer Garten, the Olympic Stadium and other sights have become landmarks of a city that likes to be called ”a village of millions at the foot of the Alps” or “Italy’s northernmost city”. Thanks to the fact that its premises are located in the charming Bavarian metropolis, Munich Business School offers an ideal study environment that extends far beyond the class room.

16 History

Our Success Story 1991

2006

Munich Business School was founded in 1991 (at that time named Europäische Betriebswirtschaftsakademie) by the European Business Schools International (ebsi) London, Paris, Madrid and Milan. The initiators pursued above all one purpose with this formation: to establish new benchmarks concerning practical orientation and internationality for business education in the South German economic center.

Asian-Pacific Business Studies and Middle Eastern Business Studies options were introduced in the Bachelor program to compete with the growing needs for experts in these two regions.

2007 MBS extends its offering: Within the Executive Education on academic level, Munich Business School develops seminars and courses for managers and tailor-made programs for companies.

1999 The success of the conception and realization of the international business curriculum convinced corporate partners as well as state authorities: The school became the first state accredited private university in Bavaria.

2008 To further expand the international profile of MBS, we offer the option of complementing the Master program with an additional degree from partner colleges in France and the USA in addition to the Master of Arts in International Business.

2003 Four years after becoming the first private university in Bavaria, the school was renamed Munich Business School. MBS became one of the first to adopt the new Bachelor and Master system. A 3year Bachelor program was introduced this year.

2004 The 20-month full-time Master’s program debuted to keep in line with the changing European academic regulations.

2005 The 24-month Executive MBA program was introduced to fulfill the need for a high quality, internationally oriented business education for experienced professionals.

Further, all bachelor programs are offered in German and English. To complement the MBA program in General Management well established for several years now, the MBA study program is also offered in Health Care Management – a field specific MBA program for the health field which is constantly gaining importance. Currently MBS has a matriculation of more than 300 students. Additionally, international students are enrolled in one of our international programs. Since its founding MBS has had over 500 graduates.

Admission Requirements | Financing 17

Admission Requirements Munich Business School requires all potential candidates to meet the following criteria to ensure quality and maintain standards: ❚ An above-average first academic degree (Bachelor Degree or equivalent) ❚ A minimum of 2 years professional experience after your first degree ❚ Because the MBA program is conducted in English, all candidates must have good command of English; those who are not native English speakers are required to submit TOEFL scores. A minimum TOEFL of 88 points (internet-based) is necessary for enrolment. In case your first degree was completed in English, TOEFL scores will be waived. ❚ Candidates must be able to cope with a heavy workload during their studies and therefore we ask each candidate to write a Letter of Motivation describing his or her motivation to study at MBS. ❚ Your CV, certificates and references should give us a good impression of your training and professional experience. Qualifying candidates will be selected for a personal interview to help us determine if your profile fits the class. We have several application rounds but urge students to apply as early as possible, as applications are processed in the order in which they are received. Current application deadlines as well as the complete application form can be downloaded from http://mba.munich-business-school.de. We will also be pleased to send you a copy of the application form on request.

Financing Opportinities Education Funds

Sponsorship

The market leader is the service provider Career Concept. The financing is based on three pillars: Up to 100 percent of tuition fees are paid. The loan is paid back as soon as the MBA alumnus has found employment.

Financing the MBA degree is common practice for employers in globally operating companies, but also in banking. The return of the subsequent MBA is to return to the funding company and to continue employment there for a minimum term; the funds sponsored must otherwise be refunded.

The percentage rate is typically at three to eight percent of the gross income with a term of three to eight years. With this the participants can decide themselves if they would prefer a higher percentage rate and a shorter term or pay longer with lower payments. The big advantage over standard loans: those who become unemployed or earn less than anticipated also pay less. And the payment is always limited: In no event will the amount to be repaid exceed an actual yield of 7.8 percent of the credit. You will find all information at http://www.career-concept.de/
