Pen Pal Program for 1st of ESO Students

The 1A students from IES Avenida de los Toreros have been participating this year in an exciting Pen Pal Letter Exchange with students outside of New York City! Since October, we have been collaborating with the nonprofit organization Bake Back America to connect our students with United States youth at the Coachman Family Shelter.

OUR STUDENTS

This year, our students in 1A have had a great time practicing their English by writing and receiving monthly letters with the American students. They are learning more than just the language though; they are also learning about American culture and making friends with the students in New York! We have learned about the American students’ personal hobbies, how they celebrate holidays in the USA, what kinds of typical foods they enjoy eating, and many other interesting things! Here are some examples of the colorful letters that have been shared across the Atlantic Ocean.

The Coachman Family Shelter

The Coachman Family Shelter is located in White Plains, New York (40km from NYC). It offers a home and other resources for families and children that need temporary financial assistance. The students there, from ages 6 to 18, have enjoyed learning about Spanish culture and getting to know our students through these letters as well. Many of them study Spanish in their schools too and some of them now say they want to visit Spain someday!

We look forward to writing and receiving more letters with our new American friends!
