Prog: 0062.23.2
Follow in the footsteps of wealthy Chicagoans such as Wrigley, Schwinn and Maytag to what was once known as the “Newport of the West”, Lake Geneva, WI. Step back in time to the Lake’s gilded age of the 1890s as we visit one of the area’s most decadent Queen Anne Mansions, Black Point Estate, a summer home built for Chicago beer baron Conrad Seipp. You’ll marvel at this stately mansion featuring thirteen exquisite bedrooms, a four-story “crow’s nest” observation tower and 620 feet of pristine Lake Geneva shoreline, surrounded by forest. See the amazing grand piano and gold-encrusted blotter and inkwell. Hear the stories about the family and how the raising of the American flag was a daily ritual as a symbol of Seipp’s American dream fulfilled. Later we’ll drive around the lake to Williams Bay for lunch at Pier 290, Lake Geneva’s only lakeside restaurant. Pier 290 is designed to capture lake views from nearly every vantage point in the dining room. The decor includes many antique nautical pieces and fixtures from the Lake Geneva region. After lunch, enjoy some time in downtown lake Geneva for a leisurely stroll along the lake or to shop in the quaint boutique.

The Canal, a 96-mile hand-dug waterway, connected the Illinois River with Lake Michigan and opened in 1848. Next attend a Mule Tending 101 class where you will learn about the care and feeding of Larry & Mo, the mules who pull the LaSalle Canal boat, plus a little history of these animals on the I & M Canal during the 19th century. Then enjoy a boat ride on the replica 1800s canal boat pulled by the mules we learned about on the I & M Canal. On this relaxing ride, guides dressed in canal-era uniforms tell the story of how the Canal changed Illinois history. A great lunch is planned at the Lock 16 Café.

NEW! Markiewicz Dental Monthly Mouth Tip!
Did you know that over 500 common medications—like those for high blood pressure, allergies, and depression—can cause dry mouth? And a dry mouth isn’t just uncomfortable…it can dramatically increase your risk of cavities and gum disease.
Mouth Tip from Dr. David Markiewicz:
Sip water throughout the day, use alcohol-free mouthwash, and consider asking your doctor or pharmacist if a medication alternative with fewer dry mouth side effects is available. You can also try chewing sugar-free xylitol gum to stimulate saliva naturally. We also love recommending StellaLife to our patients, an all-natural oral rinse specifically targeted at addressing dry-mouth symptoms.
Please welcome our new Community Legacy Partner, Markiewicz Dental!
We are proud to share that programming at the Regent Center is generously supported by Markiewicz Dental. Located at 852 IL-83 in Mundelein (Ivanhoe Shoppes, just south of IL-176), Markiewicz Dental is a familyowned, operated, and community-focused practice that has served the Mundelein area since 1988. Dr. Anthony Markiewicz, Dr. David Markiewicz, and Dr. Ryan Bogard, with a dedicated team of skilled dental hygienists and staff, are committed to delivering world-class dental care with a welcoming, small-town touch.
Thanks to their support, the Regent Report will now feature a monthly column—“Markiewicz Dental Monthly

Wednesday, May 28 at 10:30 am Out of Africa by Isak
Dinesen
In this lyrical memoir, Isak Dinesen (the pen name of Danish author Karen Blixen) recounts her years managing a coffee plantation in British East Africa (now Kenya) during the early 20th century. Out of Africa is a beautifully written reflection on a vanishing way of life, filled with vivid landscapes, complex relationships, and a deep reverence for the people and culture of Kenya. Rather than following a traditional narrative arc, the book unfolds through a series of poignant and meditative vignettes. Dinesen explores themes of colonialism, identity, and belonging with both sensitivity and introspection, making this a powerful read that invites thoughtful discussion about place, privilege, and the human connection to land and legacy.
