Message from Marissa
Dear Regent Center Members,
I cannot believe we’re already a third of the way through summer. A healthy size group of seniors and I just returned from a wonderful trip to the Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park. Extended trips, as well as our day trips, have become very popular and, in many instances, sell out. If a trip catches your eye, I encourage you to register as soon as possible. I have a feeling Oktoberfest at Jacob Henry Mansion is going to sell out quickly once registration opens on July 3, based on the number of inquiries we’ve received so far.
A big thank you to those that attended the Leslie Goddard as Julia Child presentation on June 8. That event also sold out and had quite the waitlist, so be sure to jump on programs. I have scheduled Leslie to return in late April 2024 to present Eleanor Roosevelt, so keep your eyes out for that in the Winter/Spring brochure.
We continue to have Walk & Grill through the summer. We’ll switch back to Bingo & Lunch in September, and then we’ll have Turkey Trot in November to encompass the Thanksgiving holiday. I have also planned a Sock Hop in October based on the popularity of Senior Prom. We have a lot coming up and so much to look forward to!
Lastly, you’ll notice that the Regent Center Readers book this month is the book that was initially scheduled for May. This is not an error, we had to swap around with book schedules, so it is indeed Remarkably Bright Creatures for July.
Stay well, Marissa Moravec

A highlight of your day will be at lunch when we visit an Amish family home where you are treated to fine hospitality and a fabulous and delicious home-cooked Amish Thresher meal! Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelly Van Pelt
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteenyear-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago.
As she works, Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight tentacles for his human captors—until he forms an unlikely friendship with Tova.
Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. As his affection for Tova grows, Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it is too late.
