WE’RE PROUD TO SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS AND INITIATIVES THAT GET RESULTS!

Which is why we’re happy to partner with Mundelein Park & Recreation District.

Mundelein Community Bank is a branch of Libertyville Bank & Trust Company, N.A.

This will be a summer of construction and celebration. The District continues to plan proactively and identified two key improvement projects, Longmeadow Park and Kracklauer Park. The District received significant grants for each of these parks allowing us to refresh and additional amenities to each.

Longmeadow Park is receiving a new playground, improvements to accessibility to the gazebo and walking path, and addition of woodland trails, half basketball court, gaga pit and fishing station. The woodland trails require removing some buckthorn allowing for our beautiful trees to grow big and strong. Construction has started and our goal is to finish by fall weather depending.

Kracklauer Park will be an Inclusive Space for people with disabilities, seniors, kids and more. Included will be an All-Inclusive Playground with a poured in place surface, improved access to the park, pollinator garden, boccia court, fishing station and refurbished tennis court allowing for tennis and pickleball. There are so many people, groups, non-profits and businesses to thank and will all be recognized on our donor wall. This is a special project where the entire community came together for the common good. On behalf of the Board and staff, thank you to everyone.

This year is the District’s 70th Anniversary which has provided a long history of offering quality parks, facilities and programs. Please visit our Facebook page for “Throwback,” Thursdays—a great way to get acquainted to the past to present. I am very fortunate to be a part of an agency that had prior leaders, Alex Marks and Margaret Resnick, who paved the way for our team to keep advancing.

Our community is growing, and it is important that we can accommodate the significant participation growth occurring since last year. We are a modest yet pioneering agency, often overlooked but consistently recognized as one of the foremost innovative districts in Illinois.

We are working on continuing our environmental stewardship to develop a vision and plans for Diamond Lake, ponds and natural areas. We purchased equipment allowing us to become more efficient and addressing difficult areas. We retained ILM Environments to gain more knowledge, develop short and long term plans and manage specific natural areas.

We continue to balance tax dollars, fees, and charges positively by proper planning and maintaining and reinvesting into our current infrastructure and equipment. A strategic focus is being good stewards and I am proud of the community and District coming together.

Our Mission

Park & Recreation District is committed to connecting the community with safe and quality recreation through diverse programs, facilities and open space.

Mundelein Parks Foundation

The Mundelein Parks Foundation encourages health and recreation for the community through funding efforts that help promote and enhance facilities, services, programs, parks and special projects. We are a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) charitable organization governed by an independent, voluntary board.

The foundation seeks to strengthen community and family ties with a self-generating funding source.

Our goal is to help park users and lovers become park givers and stewards. When you invest in the parks, you are investing in the quality of life of the Mundelein community.

Areas of Focus:

Every Child Should Play

Offer program scholarships to financially disadvantaged Mundelein Park & Recreation District residents so they can learn new skills and enhance their quality of life.

Project Parks

Support the preservation of land and open space and the improvement of facilities and parks.

Building Our Future

Assist with funding capital development projects as we build an even better park district.

Preserve Our Past

Preserve our past with a donation to Mundelein Heritage Museum. Funds will be used for educational program expansion, local historical preservation, and museum enhancements.

Parks Updates

We are excited to announce that work on an Inclusive Space at Kracklauer Park is set to begin this summer.

Funding this project has been a team effort within the community, organizations, the Village of Mundelein, various foundations, non-profits, businesses, Legislators, and individuals. In January, the District received an Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD Matching Grant for $600,000 which allowed the us to not only build the All-

Inclusive Playground, but transform Kracklauer Park into an inclusive Space. We thank everyone who supported this park project and made it a reality.

The park will feature an all inclusive playground which is an open, safe space carefully designed to promote play among children of differing abilities, ages, and communities. It gives children with and without disabilities the same platform to play while breaking down physical and social barriers. It is an intergenerational initiative that impacts many people in the community, such as people with disabilities, veterans, seniors, families, and more. Unlike your typical playground, an allinclusive playground has specific design structures to allow people in wheelchairs or with other mobility devices to access features. In addition, the park will have a Boccia Ball court (Boccia is the Paralympic version of Bocce Ball), an accessible tennis court lined for pickleball, a pollinator garden, and an accessible fishing station.

Please note that the playground and paths will be closed during construction Visit the website for updates

Longmeadow Park

Work is underway to improve Longmeadow Park. In 2023, The District received an Illinois Department of Natural Resources OSLAD Matching Grant for $400,000 to assist with the renovation of the Park. This will allow us to replace the 23 year-old playground and asphalt path, as well as add some new elements to the park.

Renovations include:

• Replacing the playground

• Replacing the asphalt path, and walkway to the shelter

• Adding a half basketball court

• Adding a gaga pit

• Adding a fishing station (bass, perch, carp, and catfish)

• Create a woodland trail

• Remove buckthorn along path area

Please note that the playground, shelter and parking lot will be closed during construction . We expect to reopen in October . Visit mundeleinparks .org for updates .

Note: Drawing does not represent actual colors.

Work is expected to be completed in May at Maurice Noll Park where we replaced one tennis court and added six dedicated Pickleball courts.

Safety is a Priority: MPRD recognizes that safety is a top priority to all who visit our parks and facilities. We place an emphasis on safety to ensure that you, as park and facility patrons, have a safe, fun experience.

To ensure your parks and facilities are as safe as possible, we need your help. If you see or hear about something that may be unsafe, i.e. broken playground equipment, graffiti, an animal hole by an athletic field, or anything else that you feel may be hazardous, please call us at 847.566.0650.

Insurance: MPRD is unable to assume responsibility for injuries or accidents occurring at programs, activities, parks and facilities. Carrying medical insurance for participants would make the program user fees prohibitive.

Photo Policy: Photos and video footage are periodically taken of people participating in an agency activity or event or visiting agency facilities or property. Please be aware that by participating in an activity, attending an event, or visiting agency facilities or property, you authorize the agency to use these photos and video footage in agency publications, advertising, marketing materials, brochures, event flyers, social media (including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media sites operated by the agency), and the agency’s website without additional prior notice or permission and without any compensation to you. Members who chose to utilize the childcare center at Health & Fitness Center consent to video surveillance system and abide by the terms of use. All photos and videos taken on Park District properties or at Park District events are for Park District use and become its sole property.

Oops! Occasionally, there may be an error that appears in print or online regarding days, times, requirements, fees or other information. When such errors occur, we will do everything possible to correct the situation promptly.

Residents/Nonresidents: The term resident refers to Park District residents who live within Mundelein Park & Recreation District boundaries and who contribute financial support to the Park District through property taxes. Some residents with a Mundelein mailing address may not be residents of the Park District. Please contact the Customer Service Desk at 847.566.0650 if you need residency information.

The nonresident fee structure is in place to ensure fairness to our residents. Residents of the Park District contribute financial support to the District through property taxes. The Board of Commissioners has elected the nonresident fee structure to make nonresident use of our programs and facilities equitable to our residents. “NR” means nonresident.
