Message from Marissa
Dear Regent Center Members,
March was an exciting month at the Regent Center. Two new programs were introduced: Blue Zones and Table Tennis. We volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville on March 21. In April we will dive into gardening and gratitude journals. Table Tennis was a pleasant surprise to be able to offer at our facility. I’m glad it has piqued the interest of community members that would otherwise not visit our facility.
Speaking of new programs, we are also going to begin offering Learn to Line Dance in April. One of our current Line Dancers has offered to teach a beginner class for those that find our current classes a little too advanced. This will begin on Tuesday, April 16.
Many of you have joined us over the last year for Sample Local. We have changed it up a bit and it is now a paid program. This is to assist the restaurants we are visiting to assist us best. Please make sure to register the week before Sample Local. The upcoming restaurants are listed later in the newsletter.
Stay well,
Marissa Moravec

Blue Zones Gardening
Thursdays, April 4–May 25, 1–2 pm
Cost: $10 member/$20 nonmember
Prog: 0097.23.1
The world’s longest-lived people live in environments that nudge them to move without thinking about it. Growing a garden allows you to move naturally in a slow low impact way. Join us and get your hands dirty as we set up and manage our raised gardening beds at the Regent Center this spring and summer. Participants will be given a day of the week to water our garden. This program will begin April 4 and continue through September. Summer dates will be published in May. The fee goes towards gardening materials.
Sample Local
Once a month we will be exploring hidden gems in Mundelein and neighboring communities. Advanced registration is required. Transportation and the cost of your meal will be on your own. Join Marissa or another Regent Center employee as we have lunch and try new foods!

Blue Zones Gratitude Journals
Mondays, April 1–May 20, 10:30–11:30 am
Cost: $10 member/$20 nonmember
Prog: 0098.23.1
It is human nature to dwell on what isn’t going right rather than what is. This stress can take years off of your healthy life. Spend an hour each week at the Regent Center in a formal setting, thinking about three good things about your day. Then take those skills and journal at home about three good things that happened to you that day. It may be a person you’re grateful for, something you learned, the sun shining, or your community at the Regent Center! The fee includes the price of your gratitude journal materials.
Leslie Goddard as Eleanor Roosevelt
Tuesday, April 30, 12–2 pm
Cost: $18 member/$25 nonmember
Prog: 0079.23.1
Award-winning actress and scholar Leslie Goddard portrays one of the most fascinating and influential public figures of the twentieth century. Born into wealth during the Gilded Age, Eleanor grew from shy, homely orphan into a confident, driven woman who championed progressive causes and the rights of man. Drawn from Eleanor’s own letters, diaries, newspaper columns, and other writings, this thoroughly researched and engaging performance captures the warm, honest, and passionate American first lady and stateswoman. Lunch prior to the performance will be catered by Taste of Paris featuring Spinach and Penne Pasta with Chicken. Held at the Regent Center.

The Flag, the Cross and the Station Wagon by
Bill McKibben
In this revelatory cri de coeur, McKibben digs deep into our history (and his own wellmeaning but not all-seeing past) and into the latest scholarship on race and inequality in America, on the rise of the religious right, and on our environmental crisis to explain how we got to this point. He finds that he is not without hope. And he wonders if any of that trinity of his youth —The Flag, the Cross, and the Station Wagon— could, or should, be reclaimed in the fight for a fairer future.
