General Information Following Government and Public Health guidelines, our re-opening of on-site services will continue throughout the 2021/22 Academic Year.

MU Library will adhere to current guidelines, including the wearing of masks and other appropriate measures. We ask all users to comply with these to ensure everyone’s safety.

GETTING STARTED 1 Always remember to bring your MyCard to the library.

2 Make sure you know your MU Username and Password to log on to PCs and gain Off-Campus Access https://mu.ie/library-off-campus 3 Your student number will give you access to your library account.

4 Use Self-Service to borrow, return and check your library account.

5 We have laptops available to borrow for free for up to 3 hours within the library.

6 Help is available at our Information Desk - just ask!

FINDING MATERIAL We’ve mapped our collection so it’s easier to find items on your reading list by following the directions when you click on

1 Type your title into LibrarySearch and click on Search.

2 From the results take down the location

number as this is where you will find the book. If the item is not already on loan this icon will appear. Clicking on this pin will display the exact location of the book and how to get there.

3 Our Location Number Quick Guide

opposite is useful when you want to browse books shelved at the same location number.

4 Where items are available in electronic format, click on Full Text Online.

5 Remember if you are off-campus you will be prompted to login with your MU Username and Password.

Over 60% of our collection is online Available anytime, anywhere with new items being added regularly. Online materials are accessible 24/7 but you must login whenever you are off campus. You can refine your search by selecting ‘Full Text Online’ in the results screen.

When off-campus, click the Off-Campus Access link: (https://mu.ie/library-offcampus) on our homepage and enter your MU Username and Password. You can now use all our online materials.

GETTING HELP We are here to help you get the most out of your library during your time in Maynooth.

Our students use the library for lots of reasons and in a variety of different ways.

When you first come through the library turnstiles you’ll see our Information Desk.

This desk is staffed during service hours to help you with any queries you may have about: Managing your library account Your membership Subject specific requests The collection of material such as books on hold > Inter-library loans > Theses

Online Support Subject Guides Don’t know where to start finding the right information? Check out our Subject Guides (nuim.libguides.com) There’s one for every subject and they are a great place to start. You’ll find suggested books, articles and databases for your subject together with lots of useful tips and instructions.

Online Tutorials We’ve put together a suite of short online tutorials called LIST Online (nuim. libguides.com/list-online) These will really help you as you start your

undergraduate course and are very popular with our students. They cover a range of topics from Finding Items on your Reading List to Sourcing and Evaluating Information and many more.

Virtual Learning Environment As a registered student you will have access to Maynooth’s virtual learning environment ‘Moodle’. In the Library Moodle space you will find online resources, tutorials and videos to support your learning and research. https://moodle.maynoothuniversity.ie/
