CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 Guidance

Since March 2020, MU Library, in common with many other organisations and services, has been required to limit its on-site services, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Following Government and Public Health guidelines, we are now able to begin re-opening some of our on-site services, and this will continue throughout the 2020/2021 Academic Year.

However, now, more than ever, we will be emphasising the wealth of information and resources available online to our students, including: > Access to over 60% of our collection online, in full-text. > Online guides, tutorials and videos to help you with your studies https://nuim.libguides.com/ guides_tutorials. > A dedicated Working Remotely guide to support you while you work and study away from the University https://nuim.libguides.com/ WorkingRemotely.

GETTING STARTED 1

Always remember to bring your MyCard to the library.

Make sure you know your MU Username and Password to log on to PCs and gain Off-Campus Access.

Your student number will give you access to your library account.

Use Self-Service to borrow, return and check your library account.

We have laptops available to borrow for free for up to 3 hours within the library.

FINDING MATERIAL It’s easy to find items on your reading list 1 Type your title into LibrarySearch and click on Search.

2 From the results make sure you take down the Location Number as this is where you will find the item.

Over 60% of our collection is online Available anytime, anywhere with new items being added regularly. Online materials are accessible 24/7 but you must login whenever you are off campus. You can refine your search by selecting ‘Full Text Online’ in the results screen.

When off-campus, click the Off-Campus Access link on our homepage and enter your

GETTING HELP We are here to help you get the most out of your library during your time in Maynooth.

Our students use the library for lots of reasons and in a variety of different ways.

When you first come through the library turnstiles you’ll see our Information Desk.

This desk is staffed during service hours to help you with any queries you may have about: > Managing your library account > Your membership > Subject specific requests > The collection of material such as books on hold > Inter-library loans > Theses

Our colleagues in IT Services can help you with any questions you have on photocopying, printing, Internet connections and lots more.

We also have a team of Teaching Librarians who are happy to meet with you individually or in small groups to help you find the information you need. Contact our Teaching Librarians at library.infoservices@mu.ie

Online Support Subject Guides Don’t know where to start finding the right information? Check out our Subject Guides. There’s one for every subject and they are a great place to start. You’ll find suggested books, articles and databases for your subject together with lots of useful tips and instructions.

Online Tutorials We’ve put together a suite of short online tutorials called LIST Online.

These will really help you as you start your undergraduate course and are very popular with our students. They cover a range of topics from Finding Items on your Reading List to Sourcing and Evaluating Information and many more.

Whether off campus or here in the Library, we have so many ways to help you.

Our students ask us lots of questions, which is great because we love to help.
