After a bad toothache, it surely indicates a deep infection down the roots of the tooth. if a tooth is damaged, crowning the tooth is an efficient way to restore its shape, appearance and functionality. No doubt a Dental Crown Procedure is an efficient way to restore the tooth which is done just after a root canal treatment is made,a large filling in a tooth or a broken tooth.

WHY IS IT NEEDED? A Dental Crown, specifically known as a cap is used when a tooth is severely damaged and a root canal procedure has been followed. It is placed over the tooth to protect the tooth and to restore its strength, size along with better appearance. The crown or the dental crown is cemented over the top of the tooth encased over the gum line representing an actual tooth. This whole procedure is termed as Dental Crown Procedure. – It is needed for a severely damaged or weak tooth from breaking off or hold on to the parts of a cracked tooth. – It is needed to cover and support a tooth when it is completely broken and is severely worn down with not much of tooth left along. – It is needed to enhance the cosmetic modification of the dental structure of the mouth. – It is needed to hold dental bridges in place and to cover up a dental implant.

TYPES OF DENTAL CROWNS: – Ceramic Infused: Primarily used for restoring front teeth and are used for their ability to blend with the natural tooth colour. It is usually made up of porcelain based material. – Base Metal Alloys: Nickel or Chromium are used in making of crowns. In accordance with other crown types, this type of crowns are used by removing less tooth structured, along with that it prevents tooth wear to opposing teeth. These are used for their durability that is mainly used during heavy chewing and probably last the longest in terms of wear down. – Stainless Steel- This is preferably used on permanent teeth but acting on a temporary measure. In case of children,it is used predominantly to fit over a primary tooth. In general, these are commonly used in case of children in accordance with the fact that children hate repeated dental visits. – Gold Alloys- Mixture of gold, copper and other materials. This type of crown is most used for providing a strong bond to the tooth and with the course of time it does not get fractured or has any chance of wearing the tooth itself. – Porcelain Fused with Metal- This type of crown is stronger than regular porcelain because it is connected to a metal structure. It is highly durable.

STEPS INVOLVED: -First Visit: Examining the tooth is considered in the first visit. Carefully analyzing the tooth through x-ray and checking the roots is an important procedure. It tells the origin of the infection and how far it has been spread out. Along with this, the measurement of the crown is taken by making it numb and the gum tissue around it. Then the tooth to be crowned is filed down along the chewing surface making it ideal to make space for the crown. -Second Visit- This involves removal of the temporary crown and trying the new crown to check the fit and colour. After a detailed examination, if everything sets, the tooth is again anesthetized and the new crown is permanently placed. PRECAUTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED- After the crown is fixed, trying to avoid sticky or chewy foods like gum or caramel is a healthier and better option,as these substances have the tendency to pull the tooth down. Minimizing severe chewing and slide flossing material rather than lifting while cleaning ensures that the crown is not pulled off. COST- The cost of the crown is variable in terms of the material used. At times Porcelain crown is way much costlier than Gold Crowns. The least costly being porcelain infused with metal and ceramic. At times a portion of this cost is well covered by insurance. So consulting a dental insurance company before startup is advised. SECONDARY EFFECTS AFTER PROCEDURE- At times there may be some discomfort or sensitivity after the crown is placed. But it is quite normal considering a totally new element is attached to the mouth space. Sometimes there is even an allergic reaction or a dark line covered next to the gum. These are normal problems and can be tackled by visiting a dentist in due course. No doubt Dental Crowning and Bridges for teeth is an extensive procedure. But it does have a significant impact on fixing teeth related issues. For further proceedings, share your view regarding the same to Medical Tourism Abroad by filling an enquiry form.
