MEXICO An earth quak e struck Mexico City Sunday night, but the city's newest earth quake alarm system failed to alert residents. The city's alarm, the first of its kind in the worl d, is designed to alert residents about a mir ute before a major earthquake strike s. The alarm system is supposed to send warning signals to Mexico City before any quake measuring six or above on

the Richter scale. The quake shook Mexico City for about 80 seconds, and though there

were no imme diate reports of injuri es, it

caused hundreds of panicked residents to fl ee into the streets.

Life. God's choice.

According to Duvid Korcsh, the moral or immoral quality of one's actions depends upon who you are and whol your circumstances ore. If you're the !coder of his Branch Dovidinns, you can misuse young girls, shoot or stab to death young children nnd bum yourself and your follow ers and still be morally

True enough, all of \It ha,·e been, . or probably will be, guilty of s01110 immoral action 1n ou lives; but let's not ki~ ourselves about_ the reli. tivity or morality. Only through the _acknowi. cdgm•n~ of ?ur mdivid~ respons1~1hty for rieht morn! acllon ca~ we hol>t 10 improve the ills of our nation.

Sometimos Homo Sapiens jusl don't learn the les~on intonded for them. lnatcad, they keep rumbling rorward, pushing themselves into the unknown. It all depends on_who Aller a startling disco\'ery made last week, it is, whnt the situauon is scientists at George Washini:ton University and where it's hnppc~ing. announced they had found the trick to cloning Ri ht? Wrong! Moralll): is According to Wolter nof relative. We all ld1vc human embryos. Railey, you cnn desert under the sn mc gu1 C· At fir,,t glance, this discovery may not seem so your wife ofter she's been for-fotchcd and unbelievable. So far, these miracle choked nnd left without n lines. workers have cloned animal embryoa, and it only lnrgcr a to moves eiperiment the 8C<'ms fitting that scale - like humans. But if one really stops to think about this, the horrifying truth of what this secrcl fonnula can do slams into tho reality you and I live in. This new technology gives man the power lo create an embryo•· a human•· without ,eiual rcproduction. Scientists can "make" an embryo to one's specifications .. almost like ordering a hamburger ·your way." Was it not merely 60 years ago when the stage was being set for a massive demolition of an entire b'Toup of humans just because of their religion, and others just because of their hair and eye color? How can we as humans tum around after such short II time period and announce to any future dictators that the tool is ready to make a master race? We just didn't learn our lesson. Of course, that is not surprising givon the history of Homo Sap1ens to not listen to echoes of past mistakes, and let, as generations say, history rcpeat itself. I know many people in our society arc not religious. Sure, most people will say they believe in a supreme being, but only a tiny portion of America's population actively practices their religion. However, anyone who believes in any higher power should see this scientific discovery as something that should be fearcd . In my rcligion, Christianity, it is an accepted truth that God is the maker of the heavens and the earth; He is the Alpha and the Omega; and He is the Supreme Creator. Thus this scientific "achievement" conflicts with the fact that my God is the almighty Creator. Logically, many might use this statement to say, Oisr11tiutldtl't' lt10unt MedllSwnca& ··sec, we told you so, there is no God.· (Score one for the Atheists.) However, ifwe, as human beings w~o_w!re obviously made by some higher power,Jom realization that this knowledge will do nothing positive for society, maybe we can avoid a tragedy ltss,;..,...,sss.,;'990<-'5S!Ol!SSSl'5SS> =sssssss•,sss-;sss,ssssssssssssssssssss,;ss s,;sss,,-_..OS911_ __ , . . before it happens.
