KARL BENZ By: Alyssa Have you ever been late for something? If you have you should have taken the motor car! The motor car was invented by Karl Benz in 1886. The Motor car is an automobile, auto car. That is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers, which also carries its own engine. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods. But the vehicle is used to transport goods and people! Karl Benz was born, in 1844 in Milberg. When he was two years old, his father was killed in a railway accident, and his name was changed to Karl Friedrich Benz in remembrance of his father. Despite living in near poverty, his mother promised to give him a good education. In 1853, at the age of nine he started at the scientifically oriented Lyceum. When he grew up Benz attended the local Grammar School in Karlsruhe and was a hard working student. Next he studied at the Poly-Technical University under the instruction of Ferdinand Redenbacher. Benz had originally focused his studies on lock-smithing, but eventually followed his father's steps toward locomotive engineering. On September 30, 1860, at age fifteen, he passed the entrance exam for mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, which he subsequently attended. Benz graduated July 9, 1864 at nineteen. 1886 he accomplished making his first car. He called it the motor wagon 1. He made another car in 1888, he made the Motor wagon2. 1890, he made Motorwagen 3 and people started to by the Motor cars and ten factory’s were made so more Motor cars could be made. 1909 the logo was made for the motor car. In 1923 Benz got a different company and Mercedes Benz was born. Mercedes was Karl’s Brother. Later in 1927 the company increased by 40%. But, in 1929 Karl died and didn’t get to see his amazing invention take off. Then in 1932, the sports car was made and, it was named the Mercedes after Karl’s brother!
