A samurai. What are som e of the things that you can “Garrett” means brave an think of to describe a d strong. My middle name “Masaru” in Japanese refers samurai? In English the name name “Sekiya” represents to winner and champion. the My last happier kind of name, a pe house in the valley, the valley in the mountains, etc . Beauty is more than appearance Beauty is love The graceful wings of a dove The endless imagination in a dream Beauty is not always something that can be seen Beauty is laughter And the remembrance after Beauty is hope When you have no reason to Beauty is he and she and me and you Beauty is forgiving No matter how hard Beauty is kindness Making the best of a mess

To de=ine beauty, An impossible task Because truly, Does anyone really know, I ask Beauty is different to me Than to you

Beauty is tears And overcoming your fears Beauty is individuality The courage to be yourself Beauty is a book, sitting on a shelf

Keelyn used a lot of metaphors to help enhance the meaning of Beauty. She really makes you think that Beauty is not just what someone looks like, but what someone does or think. She didn’t use many descriptive words, but she really didn’t need to, because she still added effects to the poem to make the meaning a lot more intense. “Beauty is more than appearance; beauty is love, the graceful wings of a dove, and the endless imagination in a dream” is just some of the poem sentences that Keelyn used to give the poem more meaning. In this sentence, she didn’t use any descriptive words, but you can still tell what she is trying to say, and the poem is still very interesting and meaningful. There aren’t really any rhymes in the poem, but I’m pretty sure that Keelyn wanted to just come right out and express the meaning, not necessarily rhyme, but there are still some rhymes in the poem. Some of the sentences paint an intriguing image in the reader’s head, and the other sentences adds to the image in a way. Keelyn paints not just one picture in the reader’s head; she paints several pictures so that you can get a good idea of what she is trying to express. She also shows you that you can have different takes on what you or other people may have on beauty. There is a lot of parallelism in this poem (Beauty is...) it is almost in the whole poem. It also has a conceit in it because whenever Keelyn uses Beauty is... is a metaphor but it is throughout the whole poem.

For those that liked the same sex Had the characteristics The right wing conservatives think it's a decision And you can be cured with some treatment and religion Man-made rewiring of a predisposition Playing God, aw nah here we go America the brave still fears what we don't know

"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily We become so numb to what we're saying A culture founded from oppression Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it Gay is synonymous with the lesser

We press play, don't press pause Progress, march on We turn our back on the cause A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are. No law is gonna change us. We have to change us

In the very beginning of the song, it is just talking, but when you get to the chorus, it starts to gets extremely catchy and it sort of rhymes. No similes or metaphors, Macklemore is pretty much expressing what love is and how no one should be judged based on their opinions and likes. Macklemore paints several pictures, not just one so that the reader gets a really good idea on what he is trying to let out. It is one continuous picture that keeps on moving, but sometimes you will tend to get lost a lot. This song has a lot of repetition, but it is really catchy and gets you into the mood, its not annoying or boring (She keeps me warm, she keeps me warm, etc.), it gives it a nice beat and ring. The theme of this song is you can’t judge a person just because they like something or someone else, everyone have their own likes and beliefs, you are all the same, Human. The tone is sad, because everyone is discriminating against other people, but then near the end, it starts to get happy, because the people who like each other (two guys or two girls) are happy. They don’t really care what other people think about them.

Of human ignorance I am almost in despair For racism is around me everywhere But like they say sheer ignorance is bliss Just like Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Some people carry their honour in a flag And of their Nationality they brag They feel superior and they differentiate And against those who are different they discriminate. So many people still judged by their race For such there never ought to be a place 'A fair go' those untruthful words I do recall There is no such a thing as a 'fair go for all'. Though we live in a so called democracy Of racism we never will be free They judge you by where you come from and the colour of your skin For many equality and respect seems impossible to win. It's been awhile since the days of Martin Luther King His name to it has a familiar ring If against racism he did not choose to strive Today the great man he would be alive. So many holding the reins of power not spiritually aware And racism is around me everywhere And racism only leads to division and war Just goes to show how ignorant some are.

Pretty much every two sentences (ab, cd, ab, cd, etc.) are all rhymed. There are only a few sentences where ab, and cd don’t rhyme (Though we live in a so called democracy, Of racism we never will be free). There are no similes or metaphors in this poem, Duggan just rhymes about racism. (He) just talks about how people in this world are still racist, and that no one can live in a place where racism isn’t there. (He) The poem is about how people always get discriminated against just because they are a different skin color, or they were born in a different country. I think that Duggan tried to tell you what the world is about, and how racism affects everyone, so that when you read this poem, the picture that you see in your head is about racism and fighting and all sorts of conflicts. The image is all sorts of different pictures that tell one big story, and that depending on how you see each picture will determine whether or not the poem is insanely dark, or it is just evil and cruel. The tone of this poem is probably very sad, and depressing, because it is about racism, and no one is happy during this time.

There is some rhyming in this poem, but you have to look pretty hard in order to find it, they aren’t extremely obvious. (They are now with a new rich guy, Away from poor friend, they rapidly shy.) There are a few descriptive languages, but this poem is mostly a life story about friendship. I think it is more of a story than a poem, because it is all about what kind of a friend someone can be, and then they vanish from your life. The theme of this poem is that true friends will stick by your side no matter what happens to you, and fake friends won’t, you have to choose your friends wisely. Kyi really paints an amazing picture in the reader’s head that is just one tremendous picture instead of several small pictures. The image always changes but it is one continuous image. It is probably more of a movie, than an image, it is like a life about that one rich kid and his friends. There are no metaphors or similes in the poem, I’m guessing because Kyi didn’t want to or didn’t need to relate this poem too much because you can’t really say friendship and what people do in their friendships is like something else. There is also only entire one alliteration in this poem, Feather, flocking, flying.

A very rich man surrounded by many friends, womanizing, playing poker, wining and dining together. Every time at his own will he paid all the bills. One day he went broke. At his friends he then looked. He found them nowhere All disappeared like vapour. They are now with a new rich guy. Away from poor friend, they rapidly shy. They have an eye for their own profit.

A group of people mingling together. It looked nothing different by outside appearance. They seemed friends of the best. But they stabbed at the back. A fake friend with good manner is more dangerous than an enemy with dagger. They are bitch of friendshit.

A group of people no matter race, color or age of year, dealing with another very honest, giving advice for the best, feeling no jealous no pulling of leg, calling a spade a spade for a truthful sake, no telling of well-dressed lies, praising in a real joy, encouraging when feeling sadness, sharing happiness for one's success, One's wrong is forgiven but one is never forsaken, When one is in need the other help indeed, They are birds of the same feather flocking, flying and chirping together. For some matters they agree. For some matters they disagree. For some matters they agree to disagre They never go into bickering spree. They are better than close-relatives. They are travellers of same ship. This is the true friendship as promised.

love my family with my hold heart. My love is joy to love my family Family is sad and happy and love. Family is fun and painful and pretty. My family is like all families we have love and we have happiness and tears I love my hold family My family is like angels who fly in sky I am grateful that I have family that loves me. My family are kind and nice and fun to be around My family is painful like all familys are and heart breaking and Evil sometimes My family is heart breaking and deadly like everyone else Hey I can't stop loving my family not matter what it coats in the family. Way my family is just makes me want have family with someone be as good as they are. But God know I love my family and our love is great to have in life and even know they leave he world they still a live in my hearts.

Riggs uses a different kind of writing, because when I started to read it, it didn’t really make sense at some points, but in a way it made it that much better (love my family with my hold heart.). No rhyming what so ever, it is more like a statement of sorts, because she just tells the reader what a family (maybe hers) does and what a family would look like. Riggs uses some metaphors, but she didn’t really use too many and go overboard, to enhance the meaning of ‘family’. There are also a couple of similes in this poem (My family is like angels who fly in sky), and again, I don’t think Riggs wanted to go overboard on the similes. There isn’t really any good descriptive writing in the whole poem, there are just surface level writing, but it still sends the message out to the reader. The reader can still see what Riggs is trying to say without any descriptive writing, but I think that she could have used a little bit more to make the poem that much better and more intriguing. The theme of this poem is sort of in the name. The theme is either hers or someone else’s family and how they may have their ups and downs, but you still have to love them, and they will always be with you no matter what. When I read this poem, I pictured a family that will never turn on each other, and I think that, that is what Riggs was trying to do. She gives a lot of examples to add to the picture (My family is like angels who fly in sky), I get a picture of Riggs very loving and close family.

Kids teased me for fun It taught me to be strong willed, Garrett, born in spring

I tried to make the tone a little bit on the sad side, being teased and laughter that follows. Finding the right syllables for each line was extremely impossible. I first thought of words to describe myself then I had to change up the words a bit, so that it fits the line’s syllable. The Kigo and the Kireji were very difficult to put into the haiku; I really had to think about that part. The Kigo is spring, the season word, and the Kireji is the semi-colon. When I was younger, a lot of people teased me because of my name. It rhymed with things like parrot, carrot, ferret etc. I am stronger willed because of the teasing and I have learned to like and love my name no matter who teases it. This is part of my identity because I am I right now because of what happened in the past. I might not have been here if I wasn’t teased by other people, I could be somewhere totally different. My name has a lot to do with who I am; I am shaped because of it. I have learned to ignore what other people think of my name, and that what I think is that only thing that matters.

Sports. People play it, with different gear. Lacrosse, Volleyball, Football and Hockey The after smell of nauseating beer. The triumphant snack of yummy poky Everyone loves the game no matter what It’s an exciting game to watch and Play Some People may get hurt, even their but. You might even want to sit down and stay Pucks, balls, rings, birdies, are all used to play sports You may get bumps and bruises in the game You never know, you can win stuff of sorts It will be all worth if you get the fame In the end you win some and you lose some If you are old enough you can drink Rum

Finding each word that can fit in the 10 syllables sentence was impossible. It took me forever to find the right word and right words to use, to make the sentence 10 syllables. I kind of just wrote the two rhyming sentences first, then I thought of the other two, that way it was easier to think of and write. For most of the sentences, I just wrote one, and then I tried to make the other one rhyme with it (The rhyming couplet, I wrote the first sentence, then I thought of something that rhymed with “some”, and then I just made a sentence that made sense). This type of poem is way to difficult to add any tone, but the tone could be happy and something along the lines of the happy side. The theme is on how there are many, many types of sports, and that everyone can play it. I did this poem because sports are a big part of my identity, I play sports, and sports have taught me to be a leader and a team player. Without sports I have no clue where I would be right now, and what I would be.

Freedom. Not many of us have it. Yet we are all to believe that we do. Freedom is a universal word Everyone should be able to say that they have it, Not everyone in the world has the opportunity to do what he or she wants. Only the people who thrive in the first world country will have freedom, People in the third world country will not. I don’t think that freedom should exist in the first world countries only, Freedom, will overpower slavery and oppression anywhere in the world. The thing is that it can and will start with just one single person. Standing up for what is right even though they are doing it alone. Racism is another great way of starting slavery and ending freedom. Racism started with one person, Racism and slavery can also end with one person. Because of slavery, freedom seizes to exist. Only when people start to accept them for whom they are, can racism fade away. People need to know they are not above or greater than anyone in the world, Humans are humans.

I didn’t really want to rhyme in my poem, because one, I’m not good at rhyming, and two, it is hard to get my message out if I rhyme. Instead I just let out what I am trying to say no rhyming no alliteration, no nothing. Tone wasn’t really intended to be sad or evil, but in a way, the tone was sort of sad, evil, and something on the “bad side”. I chose the line length because I thought that it would help enhance what I am trying say about slavery better than if I just wrote it like a paragraph. It also helps give it more meaning. The message I am trying to send out, or the theme, is that slavery is all around us, wherever there is slavery, there is no freedom. Slavery and freedom go hand in hand, if one is there, the other isn’t, and most of the situations, slavery is overcome freedom. I believe that everywhere in the world slavery is lurking, and no one does anything about it. I know that slavery can end with just one person, and that the person doesn’t have to be rich, or famous, or high up in the ranking (president, prince, mayor, etc.). Its not just slavery that is everywhere, it is also oppression, racism, hunger, all are just as bad as one another and all can be stopped with just one single voice.

I chose line length to be in the shape of a person, to add more effect to what I am trying to say. I also didn’t write anything in the two people’s head because I wanted to leave it the way it is. This is because I wanted to enhance the meaning of how people can like what and whom they like. I didn’t use any metaphors, similes, allusion, and all of that kind of stuff because I didn’t know how to use them to describe what I am trying to express. I also didn’t know any way to use them, and still say what I am trying to say. The tone is supposed to be sad and depressing, then it starts to become kind of happy and heartwarming. I strongly believe that everyone will get teased for who or what he or she like, and no matter if people are just goofing around, or actually teasing, the victim will always get hurt and feel depressed. Bullying and teasing can stop by just stop doing it, or if you are the victim, get help. The thing is that no one is strong enough because deep down it hurts a lot and can never be healed because they have been teased for so long they can’t handle it anymore, so they suicide. I used repetition to enhance the meaning that bullying hurts, but people can stop it.

I specifically chose line length in this poem, because without it, it would not look like a tree at all. I made it into the shape of a tree, because I wanted it to be a family tree, but I also wanted to add my friends. I made the trunk so that each person in my life shaped me in some way would be in there. I did this because each person has shaped my life and for every person you read, the trunk starts to grow. The only way for the whole tree to be there is if everyone (family and friends) is all here, shaping my life. If one person (for some reason) wasn’t in my life, the trunk will not be complete, and therefor my life won’t be where it is now. I didn’t want to rhyme or have and allusion because it is hard to rhyme about something like friends and family. It is just easier to go right out and say what I am trying to say. I didn’t really know how to put parallelism or repetition because I don’t know how to use them to enhance the meaning of what I am trying to say. You could have a slight image in your head, but I didn’t really go for trying to put too much literary elements, other wise, it may get a bit jumbled up and confusing.

My friends, even from young, have shaped my thoughts, my actions, and the way I look at things. All my friends have shaped me in some way; even if was just a little bit. My friends when I was grade 6 to now have not necessarily shaped me, but they are shaping me for when I get older. I was young my friends have shaped my life to be what it is now. If I were to have totally different friends in the beginning, then I may not even be the kind of person I am. I may have exact opposite clothes, thoughts about things, things I like, and all kind of stuff. I grew up close to my family. Everyone in my mom’s side is around the same age, so we would always play with each other as much as we can. We have grown to be more than just cousins; we have become brothers and sisters. Every one of my cousins has shaped my life and is still shaping my life in their own way. Even if one of them were not here or there were such a huge gap between our ages, I will be a unique person than I am right now or was back when I was younger. I have learned an abundance of lessons and skills from playing sports. When I was young, like 4 or 5, I played soccer, and I have learned to like soccer. During soccer, I have learned to be kind of independent, and learn to do stuff without my mom or dad. Soccer has taught me to be more dependent on myself, and not have to always rely on my family members for help. When I grew up I started to forget about soccer and play a lot more hockey. Through the years of hockey, I have been learning new skills and lessons that can be used not only in hockey, but also in other sports, and in life. When I just started hockey, I got hit from behind and may have gotten a concussion. This taught me to never go in straight into the boards, and always have my head up. Hockey taught me to always be one step a head of plays, and to use my head throughout the whole game. Hockey also taught me that no matter what you do, it would never be a downhill battle, it is always an uphill battle, you have to strive to be the best, and never give up even if you are not where you want to be. People all around the world get discriminated just because they look different from other people. Weather their skin color, or their beauty, people put down others. I have seen this throughout my whole life, and it is still happening now. There are many types of discrimination in this world, most of it is about someone’s race, and some are about their looks (Beauty). Racism has been happening for many, many years now, from the Chinese rail workers, to Jews getting killed, to black people getting put into slavery. Even though it is not as bad now, but racism is still happening everywhere you look, in all parts of the world. No matter what people say, everyone gets bullied just because his or her ancestors are from a different country, and no one stops this. One single person can stop bullying, and sooner or later the rest will follow. I believe that this can happen, but the thing is, is that no one has the courage to stand up for bullying, because most of the time they are doing it alone. The other big thing about discrimination is that people bully others just because they look a certain way. Most people who bully others based on looks are girls, and they mainly do it because they think they are popular and “cool”. They put down others to make the victim feel bad about them and make the aggressor feel good about him or herself. People would kill themselves because they get bullied everyday, but this can all stop if people stood up to bullying and fight back (not physically). People also get bullied just based on whom they like. In today’s society, anyone who is “gay” will get bullied, teased, pushed around, etc. It is the same with beauty, anyone and everyone has the power to stop this sort of evil things, but no chooses to because they are afraid or scared.
