POETRY STOLE MY IDENTITY

SUCCESS To laugh often and much to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child a garden patch or redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Analysis: This poems demonstrates many of the literary elements just to name a few is the theme is here because the whole time the author is trying to link to you, and get to you that you feel the same way as him. This poem is very strong to me because this is really how i feel so to me the poems theme is a really powerful self reflection.

Dogs teach us more than we could have imagined. Our best friends teach us loyalty, recklessness, and caring. Author: Anonymous Analysis: This poem is very short and powerful about how a dog can affect ones life. I know that my dog affects my life a lot and in the ways described in the poem, like Loyalty, recklessness, and caring. The dogs that teach us these qualities never ask for something in return. There is a very speci@ic line length that makes the poem short. This free form poem is very different from most I have seen.

A blissful silence, blanketed in white crystals, softest pillow. The roaring storms, come in like a lion. roaring their de@iant challenge to the world. A pattern only Jack Frost could paint, each different, no to pieces the same. Sleds, zipping down whitened hills, the joyous laughs, ringing throughout our sleepy little town. Pink cheeks, wet mittens, boots by the @ire, cups of hot chocolate. All these things belong in Canada's winter. Author: Shanise Gelaude Analysis: This poem is about Canada’s winters; it has some very good word choices that make the reader really get interested. Also the tone of it is very happy and joyful, the joyous laughs. The tone makes the reader feel what the writer is feeling so it really makes you feel like you are inside the poem. Also there are some really strong similes like “come in like a lion roaring their de@iant challenge the world.” This poem is very powerful with all its literary elements; this shows how much the author cared about her audience.

You will need: 1 large house 3-6 people, depending on how long you want to wait for it to be done 3 cups of pets Analysis: 2 cups of patience This poems theme is very different form a lot. It has a very creative theme that makes you 3 ounces of anger/frustration think about your family and how this poem makes you family feel perfect. Because without any of these elements your family wouldn’t be the way it is and i love to think that my family 3 quarts of laughter is perfect and after reading this i feel like my family is :). So the theme is, No matter how 4 teaspoons of trust crazy you think your family is there is always someone out there that wishes they had a And last but definitely not least, family as perfect as yours. Lots and lots of love First, open the house, and make sure that it will be the right size for your family. Mix the desired amount of people with the pets, carefully so you don’t damage them. In a separate bowl, stir the love and laughter together. Set aside. Taking each person separately, evenly distribute the patience and trust, making sure that each one gets an equal amount (Failure to distribute evenly may lead to different recipe! See recipe for “My impatient family” for details…). Carefully open the bottle of anger/frustration. Using a Q-tip, dab small portions of the anger/frustration onto each person. Lastly, take the love and laughter and sprinkle it all over the house, pets, and people. Let sit until all parts of the recipe are thoroughly combined, and voila! Your Perfect Family is complete.

Waves of the sea Touching the shore It's so exciting. Airplane in the sky Flying through clouds It's so exciting. Koel on the tree branch Singing a melodious tune It's so exciting. Seed that was sown Opening and germinating It's so exciting. Heart's awaited desire FulDilled to satisfaction It's so exciting. Cattle on the pasture Grazing heads down It's so exciting. Each and every morning Seeing the sunrise It's so exciting. Life's full of many Wonders and thrills An amazing collection of A variety of experiences Excitement for the curious Awaits at every step It's only a simple matter To explore one at a time. Analysis: The poem Above has a lot of “It’s so exciting” and it is saying it every stanza. This is a clear showing of repetition and parallelism that makes up the whole poem, without it this poem would just be a bunch of stanzas that are just saying stuff that we don’t know what its trying to say. I think that last line is trying to get you notice that, You should always try too get the light of things because everything brings excitement with it. That was the theme statement. Other than that this poem has no other literary elements.

Soccer the game For champions also the most Played game in the whole world This is because it is so much fun and Takes skill to play. I play this sport and Love it like it is the world. I love to play it And just practicing is so much fun. I would never give up practicing but I would like to Try a different sport. But I am 100% sure I would never quit playing for fun. I hope that I can keep playing until I grow old because I love it so much. Soccer is the best sport known to man for a reason No one can ever say that they hate It because it is so much fun To play.

Analysis: This poem has a very big range of line lengths that gives it the shape of a soccer ball and that is what the poem is trying to talk about. Also on the sixth line the poem has a simile “I love it like it is the world” This shows that you really do love that sport because it’s like the world to you. Without these two literary elements or without Line length this poem would just be a crazy person talking about soccer. Without the simile that line would not be as powerful and the reader wouldn't know how much you really love it .

When I ski The harsh winter air Snow spraying into my face: I live for skiing

Analysis: This poem is a haiku and there is 5 syllables Dirst line 7 on the second and 5 on the last. On the third line the poem says, “I live for skiing” and that sentence is strong in my mind because no one really lives for skiing but it gives the poem for and without this Hyperbole this poem would not show as much strength as i see it to have. I like this poem, because i made it ^.^ and i feel like this poem is one of my best.

What you encounter when biking Riding down the hill with my sick new bike These trails are so smooth like a highway I go down these trails with my friend named mike But I always like to go down my way From the bottom I go up the chair lift On the lonely chair I talk with my friend If the trail is too steep I need to shift I’m going too fast and I’m at the end The thrill of going fast is amazing I cannot believe that I can do this Trees Dlash by I feel like I am racing Down the mountain it looks like an abyss The after taste of adrenalin lasts With that, you can’t stop thinking of the past

Analysis: This poem has many different literary

elements in it. Like this simile in the second line “These trails are smooth like a highway” and another simile here “i feel like i am racing”. There is also a good rhyme in it, ABAB CDCD EFEF GG, but I guess that is just in every sonnet. On the 6th line there is a personiDication “On the Lonely chair I talk with my friend”. These three literary elements affect the powerfulness of the poem greatly and without them this poem would be nothing.

Darren It means exciting, clever, happy, It is the number 7, It is like the deepest part of the ocean, It is cliff jumping with friends, It is the memory of grandpa, Who taught me honesty and respect, When he tells me something it is always upfront and honest, My name is Darren, It means being happy and always having something exciting to do.

Analysis: There are several literary elements in this poem and one of them is a simile in the third line. The simile is “like the deepest part of the ocean” the simile compares my name to the deepest part of the ocean. The reason why I chose this is because I have hidden depths and there are things people don’t see about me. There is also a metaphor in line 2 that says my name “is the number 7”, My name is the number 7 because number 7 is my lucky number and I feel like my name is also very lucky. 7 Is also on lots of my sports jerseys and sports are a big part of my identity.

LAYING IN MY BED I THINK OF THE DAY TO COME WINTER AWAITS ME

Analysis: This poem is another haiku that is about winter it doesn’t specify if the person likes winter or if they love it. But by the way the author (me) is always positive towards winter in the other poems he has written i think this is the same way. The line length is fitted to the haiku standards ( 5 syllables, 7 syllables and 5 syllables) and that is why this poem is a poem.

My Name ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ever since I was a child I loved my name, my name means clever minded, a good sense of responsibility and a person who appreciates the finer things in life. It means that I’m serious minded and not inclined to make light of things even in little things and in my younger years I had more mature interests then others my age. I do not know where or how my name relates to my family except that a cousin of mine is also named it. But my middle name, Bruce has been in my family for at least 1 generation I don’t know if it was in my family for longer but my Dads brother is named Bruce. Bruce is really like me, he has a good sense of humor and he is very clever, just like me. I really like my name, I think it really fits me, the meaning of it fits me very well. My Mom calls me dar-dar because she thinks it fits me, I think it fits me too. It’s very cute and short. I don’t know if like it because it’s cute but it makes me feel loved and cherished. The fact that someone takes the time to create a nickname for you shows that they think of you. Doesn’t mean that it has to be a god nickname. But even if someone made you a nickname to make fun of you it doesn’t have to bad, say thanks for taking the time to make me a nickname. I think the country I was born affects my name a lot. If I were born somewhere other than Canada I probably wouldn’t have been named my name. So to conclude I think my name is perfect for me. The meaning is I. It’s original to my family, like a new generation of my name to come. It’s not too popular like Matt or Alex. My name is who I am; when people say my name they think of me, they see my face. I really think my name is perfect for me. It sounds like a song a nice lullaby in the morning when my mom wakes me up. I would never want my name to be something different. Darren Bruce Rea is my name and I am proud of it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By: Darren Rea.
