STAGE ONE: EGG

When the egg is hatched, the baby will then weigh around 450 grams (1 pound).

STAGE TWO: CHICK

The male penguin protects the baby chick to stay warm. The male gives the chick some food while the female is out to hunt for fish. It takes months and months to wait for the mother to come. When the female is back, the male carefully moves the chick to its mother. The chick has to be moved carefully to its mother’s brood pouch. If it falls into the cold ice, it will only survive for a few minutes. The little baby chick has a different color fur than its parents.

STAGE THREE: TEENAGER

The emperor penguin’s parents feed their young for the last time. The little chick need to live on it's own. One Adelie penguin pulled some of the Emperor’s fur and the one by one, the Emperor penguins jumped into the arctic ocean. When the young penguin can live on its own, its parents can go out at the same time. When the young penguin grows waterproof feathers, it can go into the water and learn how to swim When the young penguin can live without their parents, they huddle together with other young penguins, so they can survive in the cold storm.

STAGE FOUR: ADULT

The emperor penguin first eats the food the baby penguin eats like krill, fish, and squids and then when they come back, they feed their young by pouring the food into the chick’s mouth. When the adult penguin is looking for food It has to walk for hundreds of miles to the sea and come back So it takes days and months and months to get back to its colony. They find a mate to lay an egg. After mating, the female penguin lays a single egg and gives it to the male to hatch.
