BARRIE & PETER CLIMBING BEN NEVIS

We are thrilled to share an inspiring tale of determination, teamwork, and altruism within our own ranks.

Last summer, our Managing Director, Barrie, and our Safety Officer, Peter Hayles, embarked on a formidable challenge –climbing Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK. What makes this feat even more commendable is that they undertook this arduous climb not just for personal achievement, but for a charitable cause close to their hearts.

The ascent of Ben Nevis is no small feat, and Barrie and Peter faced a demanding journey that tested their physical and mental strength. As they ascended through rugged terrain, battling unpredictable weather conditions, the duo demonstrated resilience and the spirit of teamwork, embodying the values that define our company culture.

In addition to conquering the physical challenges, the climb also served as a metaphor for the obstacles we face in our professional lives. Barrie, as our Managing Director, and Peter, our Safety Officer, encounter complexities and uncertainties daily. Just like climbing a mountain, their roles demand careful planning, teamwork, and resilience to overcome obstacles and reach new heights.

TREAT

Well done to all the guys at our Tonbridge site for their achievement in coming first in our monthly site evaluations & quality reports.

NEW PLANT

Today I was helped hugely by a firm called Lenmark Groundwork’s - they aren’t on IG for me to thank them directly but if anyone knows them, please pass on my thanks! Two superstar chaps came to our rescue and saved the day (and my car!) and I couldn’t be more grateful - I obviously thanked them directly in all the ways I could BUT the two guys went completely out of there way and gave me their time and crazy amount of effort without consideration and it was hugely generous of them - if these chaps are anything to go by, this is a proper firm with great people within it!

Thank you chaps

Thank you Lenmark Groundworks

Great news! More new plant is on its way, marking continuous increased investment in our business. As we grow, prioritizing health and safety is key. We’re committed to staying up to date with the latest standards and regulations.

The arrival of these new Hitachi excavators not only boosts our production capacity but also reinforces our dedication to a safe working environment. With ongoing investments planned through the year, we will continue to ensure our plant meet the highest health and safety standards. It’s a testament to Barrie’s commitment to both grow the business and the well-being of everyone involved.

Exciting times ahead!

We’re thrilled to share that Lenmark has been honoured with the Groundworks Company of the Year Award for the Southeast in 2024!

This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, positioning us as a leader in the region.

The award recognizes our commitment to delivering top-notch groundworks solutions and is a reflection of our unwavering dedication to Health & Safety, quality, innovation, and client satisfaction. Thank you everyone for contributing to this success. Let’s continue to build a future of excellence together & Make things Better!

Lenmark Construction: Building Success in the Groundworks Business

Based in Sussex, Lenmark Construction is a family-run groundwork and construction company that delivers bespoke projects for corporate clients across the southeast of England. With over four decades of experience in the groundworks business, the company is well-equipped to provide a reliable, safe, and timely service that meets the required budget. Here, we explore Lenmark’s background and operations in the wake of its success in winning Construction & Groundworks Company of the Year, Southeast England, in the Business Elite Awards 2024.

Nugent became Directors, following several years of service. With boundless energy and ambition, they are the driving force that will take the business into its next generation and ensure that it maintains its customer focus in the years to come.

In every project it takes on, Lenmark strives to take a proactive approach to fulfilling the needs and requirements of its clients, keeping them at the heart of its operations. Alongside its monthly client meetings, the company continuously conducts surveys at the end of every project, collecting their opinions on its services. This enables Lenmark to identify any new practices or procedures that it could adopt to improve its work. This feedback is invaluable, helping the company to retain many clients over the years. In fact, it has never needed to advertise, receiving a steady flow of business from long standing existing clients.

Ultimately, Lenmark has grown from one man with a wheelbarrow into the multimillion-pound company it is today. Recently, the business has been proud to have won its largest contract to date, as part of which it provided the infrastructure and groundworks for 350 new homes in Angmering in Sussex. This first phase contract started last year, valuing at upwards of £10million. Now, Lenmark is in final negotiations with the same client, Cala Homes, for the construction of a further 125 homes in Tonbridge. Due to start in January 2024, it will have a contract value of £9million. Turnover within the business is expected to exceed £40million in 2025.

Another recent development for Lenmark is that it has received approval from the UK home office to act as a sponsor, bringing talented workers into the country to address the general skills shortage in construction. This lengthy validation and security process took the company over two years to complete. Now, Lenmark can reach out to the rest of the world and attract the best people to come to the UK and work on its projects.

As a family-run business, Lenmark cares deeply for its employees. It strives to recognise their hard work and achievements through things like monthly site team awards, long service awards, and M&S vouchers to appreciate the work of outstanding colleagues. Committed to investing in its staff, the company is also in the process of setting up a training academy, offering each member of the team a personal training programme specifically designed to suit their needs. By demonstrating its dedication to its team in these ways, Lenmark not only fosters a skilled and motivated workforce but also maintains a very low staff turnover rate of 2%.

For its continued excellence in all areas, Lenmark Construction has been named Construction & Groundworks Company of the Year, Southeast England, in the Business Elite Awards 2024. Having successfully doubled its turnover in the last year, the company plans to continue this trend in the future. To accomplish this, it is negotiating with a number of key clients regarding contracts that could enable it to reach its financial goals.

Lenmark Construction’s story begins in 1983, when Len Nugent established Nugent Groundwork Contractors. Since then, the company has been driven by its desire to become the best in the industry, offering an end product that clients and employees alike can be proud of. It has always gone above and beyond to ensure that its customers return again and again, providing it with an endless stream of business. In 1987, Mark Schneidau joined Nugent Groundwork Contractors, becoming a full-time member of staff in 1991. Len and Mark went on to work together closely for several decades before their partnership was officially recognised with the formation of Lenmark in 2011, incorporating the staff and services of The Nugent Group. Over the years, Lenmark has seen many changes; from father to son, each generation has passed on their skills and knowledge to the next. In 2018, Barrie Rossiter and Sinead
