Dear Friends, Welcome to Mount Notre Dame’s 19th annual Grand Gala! It is sure to be a fun-filled evening, and I hope you enjoy it! This year as we celebrate New York Nights, I invite you to experience all the evening has to offer, including drinks, appetizers, games and a wonderful meal. Don’t miss out on our Silent Auction items with electronic bidding available again this year. After dinner you will have the opportunity to participate in the Live Auction and our Fund-a-Need Paddle Raise. The Paddle Raise is the most important part of the evening, so please consider investing in our students when we ask you to “Be a Part of It (… New York, New York!)” We are very grateful to our entire Advancement Team, under the leadership of Rose Eckhoff, and our many fantastic volunteers led by our Gala Co-Chairs Greg & Jen Waning and Bob & Kendra Wolterman, for the work that is involved in putting an event like this together. A special thanks goes out to Director of The Grande Gala Lisa Houser for her guidance, support and enthusiasm, and to the many people who helped get us to the final product you see tonight. It takes a village! I would like to extend a special thanks to our many sponsors this evening. Please support their businesses if you can. Thanks also to those who donated a gift to the Silent or Live Auction, and to all of you who will be bidding tonight. The money raised at this event is used to help cover the cost of educating all of our students, as well as to provide funds so we can offer financial assistance to those who can’t afford the cost of tuition. It is truly an investment in the future, and is greatly appreciated by all of us at MND. Gratefully yours,
Judy Back Gerwe ’78 President
WELCOME TO NEW YORK NIGHTS Welcome to New York Nights, MND’s 19th Grande Gala! New York is iconic, from Broadway to the Empire State Building to Central Park, everyone has a favorite thing about the Big Apple! The four of us are blessed and greatly honored to be this year’s Grande Gala Co-Chairs and welcome you to an evening that you won’t soon forget! We want to start by thanking all of those who have made this night possible, the MND Advancement Office, the Faculty & Staff, the countless volunteers (adults and students), our generous sponsors, and to those of you in attendance tonight. There is a lot to see and do tonight…Take a Shot, Heads or Tails, Cougar Cards, and Big Apple Baskets are all available before dinner. You will also have the opportunity to bid on our outstanding Silent Auction items, in the Grand Central, Lady Liberty, Coney Island and Fifth Avenue areas. After dinner, our Live Auction will begin. You will want to Be a Part of It as we auction some amazing items and experiences and support our Fund-A-Need for tuition assistance. Just like in New York, you’ve got to have all the luck! Someone is going to win a lot of money with the Grande Raffle…and some will win smaller amounts too. The Grande Raffle winners will be posted in Times Square, so be sure to stop by throughout the night. We will announce the Grande Winner at the conclusion of the Live Auction. The success of Mount Notre Dame comes from a community of very generous people. The Grande Gala has funded many programs that empower our young women. As we gather here tonight, as the MND Family, let us continue the strong tradition of providing an outstanding education and the opportunity for our students to Learn, Live, Lead and Serve. We hope that you will enjoy this evening, sharing laughs with friends, some old and some new, in the city that never sleeps! Thank you once again for all you do for MND! Break a leg! The following are guidelines provided to assist in your tax preparation. 1. Dinner Ticket The cost of each dinner ticket is tax deductible to the extent it exceeds the fair market value of the meal, which is $66 per person. 2. For contributions of $250 or more, a written receipt is required. 4. Gift Contributions Tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. You may deduct only what is paid in excess of each gift’s fair market value. 5. Raffle Tickets Are not deductible. 6. An outside deck is the perfect place to sit and take in the natural beauty and solitude of the great outdoors. There is wi-fi and central heat (but no air conditioning or landline, as these are not typically needed). The house is available throughout the year, on a mutually agreeable date with the owners. Arrangements must be made within one month of the Grande Gala and must be used within one year. No pets, please. Airfare not included. VALUE: $2,250 Donated by Catherine Lusheck and Brian Higgins

Oakwood, his country house, was a fanciful delight he built to house his collections and to entertain himself after he sold his business.
