WHAT IF, THERE IS NO WHAT’S NEXT? for now,

WHAT IF,
JUST... NOW. for now,
Purpose in life is a big question—
It’s way more than just a job; way more!
It’s about finding your role. Your place in society. Your place in family. Your place in community. Also, how do you deal with change? Challenge?
THAT’S A HUGE QUESTION.
That’s something you have to learn. What if you’re more than you imagine now?

wha I’m going to become. I need time to become
Here, I can clear my mind. I can focus more, appreciate the environment — It’s waaaay less stressful and super comforting. I could hear myself learning. No, I could hear myself living.

You know that whole, “You are more than you can imagine,” “I need time to become what I’m going to become” thing? That’s what this is all about. That’s why there’s another name for a Catholic Liberal Arts education: THE HUMANITIES. Because being human is wonderful, amazing, miraculous, and... really, ridiculously, confusingly hard. It’s something you spend a lifetime learning. Think of it as sports for your mind and spirit.
Teachers, coaches, mentors, clerics, staff— everyone here is joyously devoted to the pursuit of the humanities and the cultivation of mind, body, and spirit. It’s how we roll, it’s in the water, and it’s in the air.

We admit it. We don’t really know what’s next. Uncertainty is the only certainty. Ask ANYBODY ANYWHERE ON THE CUTTING EDGE RIGHT NOW what they’re looking for and they’ll tell you: kindness, wisdom, virtue, ethics, and fearlessness.*
And don’t let anybody tell you that these are “soft skills”—the story in every major field is the same: knowing your stuff is not enough anymore. To secure your place in a rapidly changing future you need to cultivate the one thing that can never be replaced—you.
*FOR REAL: Piles of research and interviews with CEOs and other leaders say the same thing, over and over again. Wherever we’re going, we need these human qualities as part of every field and every career.
SO,WHAT’S THIS
“CORE?”
The Core Curriculum is simply the Humanities classes that are threaded throughout your undergraduate experience to infuse these crucial lessons into your chosen course of study. When people say we need a “well-rounded” doctor or day-trader…this is the “well rounded” part!

Accessible and affordable, our life-changing study abroad programs will take you to Greece, Argentina, Italy, Ecuador, Austria, and Dublin, Ireland, thanks to our newest partnership.

FOUR YEAR 360° CAREER MENTORSHIP
Your counselors and advisors are your inner circle. Your cheerleaders. Your support network. Your squad. Their experiences, advice, and encouragement form the foundation of your time at the Mount, from convocation to commencement—and beyond campus.
In Ancient Greece, a symposium was a time for discussion and a free exchange of ideas after a banquet. At the Mount, it’s how we welcome you to our liberal arts community. Less lecture, all lively conversation—it’s unlike any class you’ve ever had before!

Every success story has a beginning. This is yours. The career counseling team is in the business of making dreams come true—that’s why our office is called the Center for Student Success. Professional development and career readiness is woven into the first-year experience— building your future from day one.
Mental health and happiness are just as important to our community as physical fitness. Wellness is a journey you can continue (or begin) here with our free and confidential supportive services: we are as committed to your personal success as we are to your academic achievements.
College isn’t just where you go to learn. It’s where you learn to learn. By January of your first year, you’ll be paired with an advisor in your chosen area of study—your first contact in your professional network—giving you an early edge in preparing for your life and career aspirations.

Mountaineers inspire and elevate one another— they secure patents while in school, win Emmy Awards, and even invent the fist-bump. They go on to earn 33% more than their regional peers just eight years after starting college.*
What does that mean for you? It means the opportunity to earn more, give more, experience more and live more. A Mount education empowers you to pursue a life of significance—well beyond the classroom.

At the Mount, we take fun very seriously. With club sports, intramurals, outdoor adventures, and more—our Recreation & Wellness division is committed to helping our community stay healthy, active, and connected.
Each of our non-varsity club-level teams is run by a group of student leaders, together with a club advisor and/or coach. Each team’s athletes enjoy a high level of play, while welcoming all experience and skill levels.
Intramurals provide a fun and accessible way to stay active, relieve stress, and build a sense of community on campus.

The Mount is taking competitive gaming to new heights. Established in 2019, the Mount’s esports program includes League of Legends, NBA2K, Overwatch, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Competitive teams are supported in the same way as traditional student-athletes. Our gaming haven in Purcell Hall also hosts recreational teams, and is open to all students.
At the Mount there’s plenty to do and see—but also plenty of time to just be. Where happiness is an active state—and everyone is actively working toward it. Here, friendships take root early, grow over four years, and last a lifetime. Fill your schedule. Clear your mind. And experience Mount Mode.

From the moment you move in, there’s so much to do to get you in the Mount spirit. Start your journey with the New Mountaineers Parade. Gather at the grotto for the FirstYear’s Candle Lighting, and join your class at Convocation. Pay tribute to our Maryland home with a crab feast, then try to sink your opponents in a no-holds-barred canoe battleship tournament. And before you leave for winter break, celebrate four weeks of Christmas with Deck the Mount activities all over campus.
Whether you live in an on-campus cottage, suite-style housing, a residence hall, an apartment, or in one of our Integrated Learning Living communities, you’ll be right at home in no time. And you’ll have plenty of chances to get to know your neighbors at a cookout or block party.
* Students who live on campus have free laundry all four years.

A place so nice we named our mascot after it. Meet Emmit S. Burg!

Ski double black diamonds. Float, paddle, or raft down the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Explore the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Enjoy year-round outdoor adventures mere miles from museums, art galleries, and premium outlet malls, with neighboring quirky-cool towns like Frederick and Harpers Ferry. WELCOME TO EMMITSBURG, MARYLAND.

THE NATIONAL SHRINE GROTTO OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES (right here on campus).
THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF SAINT ELIZABETH ANN SETON, the first nativeborn United States citizen to be canonized as a saint.
FREDERICK, MD: Full of funky vintage and specialty shops, art galleries, museums, restaurants, and more. Hike the Appalachian Trail, tour a battlefield, and browse indie bookstore Curious Iguana—all in one day.
HARPERS FERRY, WV: Explore nature and U.S. history side by side. Refuel with retro goodies from True Treats Historic Candy, and take in breathtaking views where West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia meet.

THE LINKS AT GETTYSBURG: A truly spectacular course, with water features on almost every hole, and greens fronting red rock cliffs—a rewarding experience every golfer should have.
LIBERTY MOUNTAIN RESORT: A Vail resort open to all Epic passholders, ski double black diamonds just 10 minutes from campus. Or glide down the mountain at the Bubly Tube Park.

WASHINGTON, DC: Check out the National Mall and Smithsonian Museums, of course, but don’t sleep on legendary live music venues like the 9:30 Club, The Black Cat, or The Wonderland Ballroom.
WE KNOW CONSIDERING AND AFFORDING COLLEGE CAN BE A HUGE CHALLENGE. AND YES, COST IS WHAT YOU PAY—BUT VALUE IS WHAT YOU GET. SO WHAT DO YOU GET AT THE MOUNT?

Lifelong Confidence: Become a Mountaineer—happy, excited, driven, down for the adventure, and up for the climb! Gain an indestructible strength of self and a deep understanding of the world around you—supported by a happy community, your second family.

Here you’ll have the time and space to try, experiment, mess up, and find your groove.
