5th Annual North Carolina Brewers And Music Festival

he festival hailed as the BEST IN CHARLOTTE by Creative Loafing announced the 5th Annual North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival will be held May 9, 2015. Gates open at 11:30 AM. The music lineup includes Steep Canyon Rangers, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Sol Driven Train, Town Mountain, Yarn, Brushfire Stankgrass, Dead 27’s, and Edward David Anderson. The Festival will be held at Historic Rural Hill and North Carolina’s finest craft brews available with over three hours of free tasting. Brewers scheduled to participate include Highland Brewing, Blind Squirrel Brewery, Primal Brewery, Duck-Rabbit Brewery, Granite Falls Brewing, Birdsong Brewing, District 9 Brewing, Mother Earth Brewing, Triple C Brewing, Lost Province Brewing, Natty Greene’s Brewing, Sycamore Brewing, and Unknown Brewing.

The NCBMF is known to sell out in advance, so don’t delay in securing tickets.

Camping is available both Friday and Saturday nights and reservations are strongly recommended. For those that camp Friday night, there will be an exclusive show performed by both Yarn and Edward David Anderson. There is no fee to attend. This show on the campground stage is only open to weekend campers and no individual tickets will be sold for it. The campground opens at 3pm on Friday, May 8. Head to Mount Airy’s down-town main street that will be closed ex-clusively for the 6th Annual Budbreak Wine and Craft Beer Festival participants and guests from noon to 6:00pm. The vintage structures of downtown make for a perfect backdrop to host an intimate, friendly arena for wine and craft beer tasting with a side of great music under a tented stage by Mediocre Bad Guys with Jerry Chapman, singer/songwriter.

The band is from the Mount Airy/Triad music scene, specializing in rock and acoustic venues.

Just a few of the wineries who will be pouring at Budbreak: Childress, Old North State, Herrera, Round Peak, and Elkin Creek.

The inaugural Fiddle Crawl was such a hit, Lizzie Morrison, Coordinator of Downtown events, announced the 2nd annual event in conjunction with Bud-break. The larger-than-life, threedimen-sional fiberglass fiddles will be painted, decorated and embellished by talented new and some returning area artists. The fiddles will be revealed at The Earle The-atre the evening of May 1 accompanied with bluegrass and old time music. They will remain on display during the Bud-break Wine and Craft Beer Festival on May 2 and until October when the 2015 fiddles will be auctioned to benefit downtown economic development.

Paddle For Points At The Port

y Aloha Paddle and Surf, in partnership with 3-time NASCAR champion crew chief Ray Evernham, will host Stand Up for Autism benefitting the IGNITE community center and the Autism Society of North Carolina on Lake Norman May 8-9, at Port City Club in Cornelius, NC. The event will feature Elite and Recreational races, which are open to the general public. Limited paddleboard rentals will be available on a first-reserve basis. Paddleboard fitness demos will also be held. The race is sanctioned by the World Paddle Association (WPA) and will be the first regional points race on Lake Norman.

“After four years of promoting paddleboarding and introducing so many of our residents to the sport, it is so exciting to host a WPA race here in Lake Norman,” said Rob Bennett, event director and owner of My Aloha Paddle and Surf.

Stand Up for Autism will support IGNITE, a community center in Davidson for young adults with high-functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger’s Syndrome (AS).

IGNITE offers activities, skills training, and educational workshops that foster social, financial, educational, and employment independence for its members.

But most importantly, IGNITE offers a social environment in which members can connect with others and experience a sense of community. IGNITE is operated by the Autism Society of North Carolina.

The event will begin Friday evening with a kick-off party from 6-9 p.m. at Port City Club, which will include food, beverages, silent auction and music. The pre-race meeting will start at 8 a.m. with the WPA Region 6 sanctioned Elite and Recreational races to follow. The awards ceremony on the beach will begin at 11 a.m. and be followed by a luau featuring the Island Hula Girls along with island music, food and fun activities for all ages.

Craft Beer Lovers Rejoice: NC Beer Month Returns for Third Year

he flavors of North Carolina’s beerscape will be on tap during the state’s third annual NC Beer Month, taking place throughout April.

Presented by Visit North Carolina and the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild, NC Beer Month showcases the state’s thriving beer scene, inspiring travelers to explore the craftsmanship of 125 breweries and brewpubs and the destinations that sustain them.

“North Carolina pairs the best in beer with appealing experiences,” said Wit Tuttell, executive director of Visit North Carolina. “Just as our award-winning brew masters cover the spectrum of styles, our menu of activities covers prime choices for outdoor adventure, exceptional dining and lively culture.”

The rewards of North Carolina beer travel reach new heights in 2015. Trips to celebrated craft beer destinations are being offered as sweepstakes prizes.
