The 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Challenges ‘Big Luxury’ Stereotypes
With large luxury sedans increasingly falling out of favor among well-heeled buyers, an interesting crop of alternatives have begun to emerge beyond the standard SUVs and crossovers that initially sopped up demand. Of these, one of the most recent is the 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, a lowslung, muscular four-door that abandons the bulk of a sportutility without sacrificing comfort, power, or road presence. A worthy replacement for the now-departed 6 Series Gran Coupe, the larger 8 Series offers not just more of the same but a further level of refinement than what was possible in the older model. This is especially true when the car is found in its range-topping M850i xDrive trim level, which swaps out the base model’s turbocharged six-cylinder engine for a twin-turbo V8 that develops a startling 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s enough output to send the Gran Coupe from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds on its way to a top speed of 150 mph. While it would never be mistaken for a sports car - its grand touring chops are apparent in the long wheelbase, four door platform, and comfort-first mission statement the 8 Series is a monster on the highway, reducing passing maneuvers to the briefest of blinks without upsetting the calm character of its cabin. About that interior: the 8 Series Gran Coupe is intended to seat four, with a full-length center console bisecting the car
and dividing the rear accommodations into a pair of buckets. It’s in keeping with the two-door M850i xDrive model’s configuration, albeit with substantially more passenger room for those sitting out back. Space-wise, the BMW is adultfriendly at each position, although the trunk’s more modest capacity is a bit of a disappointment considering that the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe - not to mention rivals like the Audi S7 - offer a gargantuan hatchback for dealing with larger cargo. In terms of fit and finish, however, there’s nothing to complain about. The 8 Series feels as worthy of its $108,000 price tag when wearing four doors as it does in traditional coupe trim, with fine leather upholstery on seats and soft-touch surfaces matched by crystalline accents and BMW’s excellent iDrive infotainment system. The latter - though not without its quirks, such as the gimmicky gesture controls for the stereo, and voice-driven assistance - is one of the best in the industry, and is far easier to use than recent efforts from rivals like Mercedes-Benz. If all-out speed is your thing, then the M8 version of the vehicle is also available, but truth be told a luxury car this size is best enjoyed in day-to-day driving, not while being flogged on a race track. Think of it as the 7 Series without the stuffiness, and you’ll quickly catch on to the vibe BMW is broadcasting with its latest Gran Coupe.

FERRARI 1962 Superamerica Coupe Aerodynamica by Pininfarina In 1962, if you were Enzo Ferrari, living near your factory in Italy, what would you use to drive to work every day? The car pictured is what Mr. Ferrari selected—a 400 Superamerica Coupe bodied by Pininfarina with a V-12 engine, 340 HP at 7000 rpms.
The 400 Superamerica had its public debut at the Brussels Automobile Salon in February 1960 as a Pininfarina-bodied cabriolet. At the Turin, Italy show, later that same year, Ferrari again displayed the cabriolet; but, Pininfarina, had now produced a new 400 SA aeorodynamica coupe for Ferrari and it was the real showstopper.
Very few dealers were authorized to sell the Ferrari 400 Superamerica. When a customer ordered their Superamerica, they could choose the paint color, upholstery, arrangement of the instrument panel, and could even select the configuration of the car’s headlights and nose. Every 400 Superamerica was built a bit differently. Only fourteen of the coupe models would be built.

His son, Piero Ferrari, testified to being “terrified” as a child riding beside his father.

Florida is known for being a karst state, which means there is natural occurring limestonebased rock that lies underneath Florida. When it rains in Florida, especially during certain months of the year, the rain will filter through the limestone and picks up calcium, magnesium, sulfur and other deposits. Having these deposits in our sprinkler system could potentially damage your clear coat if not taken car of immediately. When hard water from your sprinkler system is left on the paint for a long time, it will leave residue deposits after the sun evaporates the water. These deposits do not evaporate which dry into the clear coat leaving a white residue behind. If taken care of immediately, a car wash should be able to take these stains out. If these stains are left on
the clear coat for a long period, a car wash will not take the stains out, resorting to either acid washing or compounding the stains out. Primo Detailing Studio uses only soft water to properly clean each and every vehicle. We have a specialized system which takes the hard water caused by Florida and softening it by adding sodium ions. Soft water is the absolute best choice to use with cleaning agents. Soft water also produces the highest foaming for automotive soap and the most consistent cleaning performance.
