A2RL returns to Yas Marina Circuit for a high speed finale to
Cutting edge racing, global teams, and a full Yas day plan. Register now at registration.a2rl.io
Abu Dhabi has a special date for your calendar. On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) is back at Yas Marina Circuit with a programme built for spectators who love innovation as much as they love a roaring grandstand. It is the finale to the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed, and it brings the world’s most advanced driverless single-seaters to a track that knows how to host a show.
This is the second season for A2RL, organised by ASPIRE, the innovation accelerator of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council. Season 1 proved
the concept to more than ten thousand fans on site and a global streaming audience, and Season 2 raises the stakes with a prize pool of USD 2.25 million and a deeper field. New teams arrive from France and Japan, joining returning entrants from the USA, Germany, China, Singapore, Italy, and the UAE. The grid is international, the software brains are as important as the hardware, and the lap times tell you this is not a lab demo.
At the heart of the show sits the upgraded EAV-25, built on the Dallara Super Formula SF23 platform. If you follow racing, you already know the SF23 reputation for lightness and speed. Strip out the human driver, add an array of lidar, radar and cameras, layer on serious onboard
compute, and you have a racecar that senses, decides, and reacts in real time.
A2RL also looks beyond race day. Season 2 introduces A2RL SIM-Sprint, a virtual competition that runs year round to help teams test code against realistic scenarios and to open the door to a new wave of talent. The roadmap points to an academy path where fans and developers can progress from Sim Academy to Sim Pro, and eventually to real-world qualification opportunities. If you are the kind of person who watches from the stand and wonders how you could be part of it, this is the route to follow. It is a smart way to grow the ecosystem and to keep the community engaged between seasons.
Engineers tune control logic the way drivers fine tune lines, hunting for those small gains that add up over a stint. From the stands, the difference you feel is precision: clean entries, assertive passes, and a confidence through high-speed sections that speaks to how quickly the system is reading the track.
You do not need a technical background to enjoy it. Grandstand hosting is designed to put you close to the action, with sightlines over braking zones and sweeps that make speed visible. Big screens carry telemetry
and replays, the pit lane hums with teams running test cycles and strategy calls, and the atmosphere feels like an international race weekend with an extra layer of curiosity. People point, guess, and then cheer when the unexpected move sticks. It is a live lesson in how AI behaves under pressure, but it is also just a thrilling afternoon at the track.
For families and first timers, the day is easy to plan. Yas Marina Circuit runs like a city within a city, with plenty of parking, clear wayfinding, and food and beverage options around the concourse. Arrive in time to
watch early sessions settle nerves and you will see how teams iterate from run to run. Find your favourite livery, follow their sector improvements, and you will leave talking like a regular. When the main race launches, the noise is not an exhaust note. It is a different music: tyres, wind, crowd, and the small intake sounds of a machine working at the edge. There is more to the weekend than the race. The wider Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week programme brings demonstrations and showcases around the capital, and A2RL closes it out as the flagship moment. On the
same evening, Travis Scott performs at Etihad Park, which makes it very tempting to pair a Yas grandstand afternoon with a concert night. That is an independent event, not an official A2RL after-race, but the timing lines up neatly for visitors who want a full day on the island. There is a walking route from fan zones on Etihad Park, making it easy to get from one venue to the next.
Planning your visit is simple. Head to registration.a2rl.io to secure access, check the race-day schedule, and opt in for updates. If you are building a group outing, consider a late lunch on Yas, arrive for the early sessions, and stay for the main race and podium. If your plans stretch into the evening, Etihad Park is a short hop away for concert ticket holders.
The appeal of A2RL is that it brings the near future into the present tense. You see autonomy work in public, at speed, with the accountability of a chequered flag. You feel the crowd lean in when two cars go side by side through a corner. You hear kids ask smart questions about sensors. You watch global teams celebrate a clean pass like they have won a title. It is sport, it is engineering, and it belongs on a weekend that celebrates what is next for Abu Dhabi.
Register now: Secure your spot for A2RL at Yas Marina Circuit on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Visit registration. a2rl.io to register, receive race-day updates, and plan your visit.

HELLO ABU DHABI!
The season has turned and the city feels newly awake. Mornings are bright, evenings stretch a little longer, and every conversation seems to end with a plan. It is the best kind of problem. Too much to do, not quite enough nights. I would not have it any other way.
Our cover is dedicated to the weekend that powers this feeling. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix returns, and the capital is already humming. We have mapped the experience the way a friend would, from the first lap to the last song. Where to watch with a clear view, how to glide between the grandstands and the live music, where to book a table so the day flows, and where to end up when the chequered flag drops. If you are a veteran of Yas you will find new ideas. If this is your first time, you will have a plan that lets you relax and enjoy the noise.
Winter in Abu Dhabi has its own rhythm beyond the circuit. We spent time on the shoreline to round up the best beach clubs for the festive stretch. Some are made for long lunches that become sunset swims. Others are built for music and a late entrance that feels perfectly timed. All of them are ready for the kind of weather that makes you forget about indoor days. I have been jet skiing whenever I can, carving small figure eights into water that looks like polished glass, which I tell myself counts as a sport.
Food takes over the diary at this time of year. The city is hosting a run of festivals that invite you to wander, taste, and stay longer than you mean to. We have the details so you can pick your day and arrive hungry.
The cooler air also brings back small pleasures that feel like a gift. Walking without watching the clock. A run after dinner that does not require bargaining with a treadmill. A morning coffee on a terrace that remains hot for more than five minutes. In this issue you will find a list of winter activities that make the most of the change.
Abu Dhabi is generous in this season. It gives you speed and sound at the track, quiet on the shoreline, and flavour around every corner. Our job is to help you join the dots. Use the guide to plan one perfect race day, then turn the page and build a week that balances early nights with celebrations, movement with good meals, and a full calendar with a little space to breathe. I will be out there with you, cheering on the grid, chasing that first winter breeze, and pretending that a second cup of karak is essential research. See you trackside. See you by the water. See you out in a city that feels ready for its best months.

Through MY EYES DJ Dean Curtis
THE UAE ACCORDING TO...
Each month we ask residents to share a guide to the UAE through their eyes – from their must-try restaurants and standout attractions to favoruite staycations and hidden gems. This month we chat to DJ Dean Curtis, ahead of his UNTOLD Dubai gig this month. Since 2010, DJ Dean Curtis has been at the heart of Dubai’s evolving music scene, bringing his signature sound to some of the city’s top venues. Now, as Deputy Content Director at Virgin Radio, Dean not only influences the city’s nightlife but also curates its sound across the airwaves.
“Konjiki Hototogisu in Mall of the Emirates. Best noodles I’ve ever had and its backed up with a Bib Gourmand award from Michelin. My go to is the spicy chicken ramen. “
“The pool at Isola Ristorante. Such a nice pool that’s chill vibes, good service, nice views and an amazing menu. Try the foccacia pizza for a life changing bread moment.”
“My monthly night for millennials is Please Leave By 10. We start the party at 6pm and at 10pm the lights come on and you are told to leave – it has been sold out every weekend, so there is clearly a demand for it! And this time of year Kris Fade and I perform at Untold Dubai as Cancelled Music, catch us on stage on the Nov 8.”
“The OG Sandy Beach Hotel and Resort, Fujairah. It’s a pretty rustic experience but it’s nice to feel grounded and I love snorkling around Snoopy Island all day long. Plus you can take all your own food and have a BBQ at your chalet. Feels ‘normal’ after the city life.”
“Scarlet’s German Bakery & Patisserie. Some of the best bread and cakes in the city. I always grab a sandwich for lunch from there when I drop my daughter to nursery. It’s incredible quality and only Dhs16.”
“As the nice weather is here, I enjoy going for pool days with my family. We have Privelee, so we like exploring different pools each weekend, but an all-time favourite is Anantara on the Palm for unlimited chill vibes surrounded by a bit of greenery.”
The race where glamour meets grit
If the Monaco Grand Prix is old money and champagne flutes, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the desert version of a rock concert. It’s where the heat, lights and sound come together to create something that feels a little unreal.
The race weekend, from December 4 to 7, isn’t just a date on the Formula 1 calendar. It’s the finale. The last stop of a global roadshow where every driver is chasing one thing: victory in the season’s grandest setting. Titles are won or lost here. Hearts break. Champagne flies. And for a few wild nights, Yas Island becomes the loudest place on Earth.
For first-timers: It’s as much about the party as the poles. For die-hards: The racing is the thing. For everyone: It’s an experience worth grabbing.
Everything you need to know to look like a pro on Yas Island
What is Formula 1 anyway?
Formula 1 is the world’s fastest, most glamorous motorsport. It’s a global championship made up of races called Grands Prix, and Abu Dhabi hosts the final showdown every December at Yas Marina Circuit. Drivers and teams collect points at each race, and by the end of the season, champions are crowned. Think of it as the Oscars of speed, but with more rubber and way louder engines.
The cars
F1 cars are precision machines built for speed, handling and drama. They can reach over 300 km/h, accelerate from zero to 100 in about 2.5 seconds, and weigh roughly 800 kg. Each car is a masterpiece of engineering, made with carbon fibre and hybrid engines. Every move counts: a small mistake costs seconds, a clever strategy can win races. At Yas Marina, watching these machines dart around corners and along the Marina straight is pure theatre.
The drivers
These athletes are fit, fearless and famous. They experience g-forces like fighter pilots, drink litres of water per race, and still smile for cameras at the podium. Top names to watch this weekend include Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Every turn, overtake and pit stop keeps fans on edge.
Race weekend in Abu Dhabi
Friday: Two practice sessions to test tyres and strategies.
Saturday: Final practice and qualifying. The fastest lap gets pole position.
Sunday: The main event. The Grand Prix lasts around two hours and ends with a chequered flag and fireworks over the Marina.
TRACKSIDE TALK
Pole Position: Front row on the grid, the best view of the start.
Pit Stop: Quick tyre change or adjustments, often under three seconds.
DRS: Drag Reduction System, a little speed boost on straights.
Safety Car: Slows the race for crashes or debris.
Constructor: The team that builds the car. Each constructor has two drivers racing.
HOW TO DO IT RIGHT
Your game plan for race weekend
If you’re heading to Yas Island for race weekend, a little planning goes a long way. Between the concerts, the races and the crowds trying to do both, it helps to know what you want from the experience. Do you want front-row seats to the action? A trackside brunch with champagne? Or are you here for the music and the Marina parties? However you like to play it, here’s how to make the most of your Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has a ticket for every kind of fan. Prices vary depending on where you sit, what you want to see and how much you want to spoil yourself.

ONE LAST TIP
Don’t try to do everything at once. The weekend is long and packed with action. The magic is in the mix - a little speed, a little sparkle and plenty of time to just enjoy the ride.

ESCAPING THE GRAND PRIX — A WEEKEND IN AL AIN
Running away never felt so good
Let’s be honest. Not everyone wants to trade the calm of their weekend for the roar of engines, the crush of crowds and the constant hum of F1 fever. If your idea of a good time involves peace, nature and a little breathing room, there is a place just 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi and Dubai that will do the trick. Al Ain Region is a desert oasis that marries history, greenery and adventure. Think palm-shaded oases, ancient forts and winding desert trails, all begging you to slow down, look around and actually enjoy your weekend.
Nature and mountains
Hike the rocky trails of Jebel Hafit Desert Park, where the Bronze Age beehive tombs stand quietly against sweeping mountain views. Hike, cycle or take a camel ride and if you’re feeling indulgent, spend the night under the stars in a Bedouin tent or a glamping bubble dome.
Recharge at Green Mubazzarah, Abu Dhabi’s natural hot springs tucked at the foot of Jebel Hafit. Lush gardens and shaded pools make it easy to forget the city buzz you left behind.
History and heritage
Start at the newly reopened Al Ain Museum, the UAE’s first museum. Founded in 1969 by Sheikh Zayed, it mixes its original charm with sleek new spaces, showcasing 8,000 years of regional history. Explore ancient artefacts, the aflaj irrigation system, and hands-on workshops that bring the past to life. Next door, Sultan Fort anchors you in the heart of the old Haret Al Hosn village, rounding out a heritage-rich stop.
Step into history at Al Jahili Fort and wander sun-dried mudbrick walls, explore cultural exhibitions and peek inside the nearby Jahili Mosque. Meander through Al Ain Oasis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where 147,000 date palms and a 3,000-year-
old falaj irrigation system offer quiet pathways and moments of calm.
Visit Qasr Al Muwaiji, the former home of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, or dive into creativity at Al Qattara Arts Centre with calligraphy, pottery and photography workshops.
Fun and flavour
Al Ain Adventure offers whitewater rafting, kayaking and adrenalinepacked action at the base of Jebel Hafit. Emirates Bio Farm is a chance to taste local farm-to-table produce and join workshops on sustainability or sound healing.
Animal lovers will find bliss at Al Ain Zoo, home to 4,000 creatures from giraffes to lemurs, plus camel rides and petting zoos. For a slower pace, Telal Resort & Zaman Lawal Heritage Village blends golden dunes with falconry, pearls and Emirati hospitality.
Al Ain is the perfect antidote to race weekend chaos. Fresh air, wide horizons and enough quiet to make you wonder why you ever needed the Grand Prix in the first place.
There’s something about the blue of Abu Dhabi’s beaches that feels like it seeps right into you. It has a quiet, steady pull. The water shimmers under the sun, stretching into a horizon that seems endless, calm and serene. Psychologists say that looking out at open water and a clear horizon can help the mind rest and recover. Standing on the Corniche or letting your feet sink into Saadiyat’s soft sand, you feel the noise fading. The sound of the waves, the scent of salt in the air, the rhythm of the tide all slow you down and make space for your thoughts.
From tranquil shores to sparkling turquoise waters, the beaches of Abu Dhabi are perfect for a moment of calm and escape.
St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort
The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort is all about polished luxury and effortless relaxation. With access to both the private Saadiyat Beach and the resort’s outdoor pools, you can spend the day moving between sun, sand, and water at your own pace. THE ABU DHABI EDITION
Three terraces, one perfect day by the marina
The Spot
Perched on the Al Bateen waterfront, The Abu Dhabi Edition is the kind of place that makes you want to linger. With the weather finally cool enough to sit outside again, its trio of terraces called for a full day of indulgence. One terrace wouldn’t do, so I made a plan: breakfast at Market at Edition, lunch at Alba Terrace, and dinner at Oak Room. From sunrise to after-dark, each meal offered its own take on marina-front dining, complete with soft breezes, clinking cutlery, and the gentle sway of yachts nearby.
The Vibe
blue waters framed by lush greenery feels like an instant reset. Alba Terrace, with its sunken seating almost touching the water, is where you want to be at midday. The light bounces off the marina, and it feels like summer, but softer. By nightfall, Oak Room turns cinematic. Candlelight flickers across dark wood tables and soft music hums in the background. It’s intimate, polished and quietly romantic.
The Food and Drinks
done right. The filo-wrapped feta, drizzled with Emirati honey and sprinkled with sesame seeds, stole the show. The homemade ricotta with roasted beets and caramelised figs was delicate and moreish, while the grilled octopus was tender and smoky. The Amalfi Sunset and Black Card cocktails were both refreshing, the latter with activated charcoal and pineapple, was as intriguing as it sounds.
Dinner at Oak Room felt like a celebration. The Stockyard Black Angus T-bone was perfectly charred, with just enough pink at the centre. The truffle triple-cooked chips were rich and indulgent, and the broccolini and rocket salad added freshness to balance the plate. The Madagascar vanilla crème brûlée closed the night beautifully, creamy with the perfect crack of caramelised sugar.
The Service
From the moment you step into The Abu Dhabi Edition, the service feels effortless. Warm smiles, helpful suggestions and a genuine ease in every interaction. The staff at Market at Edition were particularly charming, offering not just menu advice but tips on how to make the most of a day in the capital. Across all three venues, the service matched the setting, attentive but never intrusive.

WHAT’S ON VERDICT
There’s a quiet rhythm to this part of the city, and it flows right through each terrace. At Market at Edition, the fishinginspired design is front and centre, with shades of white, gold and brown that echo the desert meeting the sea. The view of
At Market at Edition, breakfast feels wholesome without trying too hard. The homemade granola with Greek yogurt was a standout, fresh, crunchy and perfectly balanced. The guacamole with poached eggs and toast was simple and satisfying, and the grilled halloumi was a salty treat. The hibiscus basil kombucha and the ginger, turmeric and orange shot added a sharp kick to the morning, like a wake-up call in a glass.
Alba Terrace is Mediterranean comfort
Dining at The Abu Dhabi Edition feels like a love letter to the city’s marina life. Each terrace captures a different moment in the day, from sunrise calm to sunset glamour. It’s refined without being stiff, scenic without feeling staged. A full-day terrace experience that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

WEST BAY LOUNGE
Where the beach meets the best of mediterranean flavour
The Spot
Set along Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, West Bay Lounge is the kind of place that makes the city’s coastline feel brand new again. With a front-row seat to the sea, this Mediterranean fusion restaurant offers more than just a view. It feels like you’ve stepped out of the daily rush and into a secret you almost don’t want to share. The gentle waves, soft music and scent of grilled seafood in the air make it the perfect place to slow down and soak in the beauty of the capital’s beachfront.
The Vibe
Boho-chic without trying too hard, West Bay Lounge feels like a postcard come to life. Hammocks and day beds sway in the distance while the sunlight dances on the water. Even on a Wednesday afternoon, it feels like a weekend. The earthy tones, soft fabrics and the gentle hum of conversation add to the sense that time here moves differently. By the time your first drink arrives, the thought of emails and meetings has already faded away.
The Food and Drinks
Head Chef Jose Maria Ibarra Becerra clearly cooks with passion and a love for bold flavour. Every dish has his signature touch of heat and depth without being overwhelming. The gambas al ajillo, with prawns, porcini and button mushrooms in a homemade Mexican chili sauce, was a knockout. Each bite brought a mix of spice and richness that lingered beautifully.
The grilled tiger prawns with mash were buttery and tender, and the sushi platter added a fresh, clean contrast to the meal. Dessert was the biggest surprise.
The West Bay Cioccolato, a chocolate fudge cake layered with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with hot chocolate sauce, was decadent yet light enough to finish every bite.
To drink, the Placebo mocktail, a mix of coconut, orange, pineapple, cinnamon and lime, felt like sunshine in a glass. Every sip matched the beachy, relaxed spirit of the setting.

The Service
The team at West Bay Lounge is warm and confident, offering thoughtful recommendations and quick service without interrupting the easy flow of the afternoon. They know the menu inside out and strike the perfect balance between friendly and professional.

RESTAURANT ALL-STARS HEAD FOR RAK
Wynn Al Marjan Island drops a culinary bombshell with its first two restaurant announcements, and they’re dripping in star power, steak, and serious glamour
Wynn Al Marjan Island, the upcoming $5.1 billion mega-resort rising like a mirage of modern luxury from RAK’s turquoise waters, just revealed the first two restaurants confirmed for its 2027 debut. And the names are a power move...
DELILAH
The world famous, celeb-favourite, no-cameras-allowed, supper club from Las Vegas is making its formidable Middle East debut. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to dine inside a Scorsese tracking shot, this is the closest thing to it. A-list regulars at the original Delilah in Vegas and LA include Kendall Jenner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gigi Hadid, Justin Bieber, and pretty much anyone who’s ever walked a red carpet.
Inside Delilah at Wynn Al Marjan Island, guests will descend from a luxe bar and lounge into a moody, candlelit dining room designed with the kind of dramatic detail you’d expect from Wynn Design & Development, led by Chief Creative Officer ToddAvery Lenahan. His vision is “to surprise guests and surpass their expectations” which in this case means cosy fireplaces, a 1950s
all-new Beirut-inspired supper club energy, and a side of toplevel, curated live music performances.
On the menu Delilah’s signature wagyu beef Wellington (carved tableside), playful upscale nods like crispy chicken tenders, and elegant new dishes that showcase the region’s local bounty. Meanwhile, the cocktail list promises a generous pour of Old Hollywood.
THE SUPPER CLUB OF LEGENDS
ALAIN DUCASSE
Meanwhile, the man with more Michelin stars than most chefs have knives in their kitchen is bringing a new, exclusive FrenchAmerican steakhouse to the UAE. Expect double-height drama, ultra-premium beef, cheese soufflé starters, and tableside flambé that would make a Parisian great-aunt beam. If his pedigree is any indication, this is tipped to become one of the best steakhouses in the UAE, an old-school temple of beef elevated with nouveau French flair.
For Ducasse’s – still unnamed – steakhouse, it will stretch across two floors, clocking in at roughly 1,820 square metres of culinary theatre. Speaking about his new restaurant at Wynn Al Marjan Island, Ducasse said, “this project is one of the most visionary and ambitious in the region.” And with a menu that will feature duck foie gras brioche, a dedicated “Beef Club,” and desserts flambéed right at your table, he’s clearly bringing his full culinary arsenal.
And that’s just the beginning…
When Wynn Al Marjan Island opens its doors in 2027, it will debut with an extraordinary 22 restaurants and lounges, spanning a Lebanese concept, an Indo-Persian restaurant, a modern Greek spot, and a game-changing food hall. Add to that a beach club, a nightclub, and an endless calendar of live performances, and you’ve got the makings of a new entertainment capital on the Arabian Gulf.
Beyond the dining, the mega-resort will also include 1,530 rooms and suites, multiple pools, a five-star spa, luxury shopping promenade, and a dramatic new theatre experience. The veiled casino area is of course a highlight in the plans, alongside a ‘Sea of Dreams’ spectacle, an enormous water-and-light animated show designed to dazzle.

The woman behind tashas: 20 years of
coffee, comfort, and community
Natasha Sideris on building a global café brand from a South African corner shop to the UAE and beyond
When Natasha Sideris opened the first tashas in Johannesburg’s Atholl Square, she thought it would be a hobby. She was studying psychology at university and had plans to write a book called Street Food Africa.
“I thought I’d open the store, work a few hours in the morning, go to lectures, and write my cookbook,” she laughs. “That never happened. From day one, it just took off.”
Two decades later, tashas has grown into a global name with 40 restaurants across South Africa, the UAE, and now Saudi Arabia. Sideris never planned for this. “Everything we do is organic. It takes time. We don’t chase trends, we don’t rush growth. It’s about doing things properly and choosing locations that make sense.”
an expensive couch,” she says. Her brother, who designs the interiors, shares her vision of understated elegance. The restaurants are designed to feel like home, a mix of quiet comfort and luxury. “You can come for a cappuccino and a slice of cake or go all out with grilled prawns and a Luxburger. It’s about making everyone feel welcome,” she says.
What started as a corner café has become a lifestyle brand defined by what she calls “quiet comfort and luxury.”
Finding a home in the UAE
Sideris landed in Dubai 11 years ago after a local Emirati businessman reached out about bringing tashas to the UAE. “We’d been approached by big corporate groups in the US, the UK, and Australia,” she says. “But the UAE made sense. I came to Dubai, fell in love, and never left.”
Now she is expanding beyond Dubai and Abu Dhabi into Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah. “We’ve been approached for years, especially after opening tashas in Al Bateen in Abu Dhabi, but the timing wasn’t right. Now, with Dubai becoming more populated and people moving to other emirates, it’s perfect. Al Ain has a great coffee culture and Sharjah has an amazing creative scene.”
The latest tashas in Al Ain is set to open in January 2026.
Sideris is hands-on with every new space. When we speak, she is in Riyadh, pausing mid-conversation to guide her team. “Don’t hold your tray to your chest. It’s not welcoming,” she calls out. Then she returns to the interview. “I am a control freak. I was in the kitchen yesterday from 11am to 11pm. I still do 16,000 steps a day during openings.”
The tashas touch
Step into any tashas and the details immediately stand out, from the lighting, the art and the effortless sense of ease. “tashas has always been about community, and community also means family. It’s warm, welcoming, comforting. We’ve always said it’s like putting your feet up on
The same philosophy shapes the menu. Her favourite is the parmesan couscous chicken breast, a wholesome mix of tenderstem broccoli, goat’s cheese, and fennel that nods to her Greek roots. She also has a soft spot for her brother’s creamy chicken pasta with mushrooms, the bestselling comfort dish on the menu.
No shortcuts, no secrets
What has kept tashas relevant for 20 years? “We do the basics really well. Great ingredients, made fresh, served with warmth. You can’t beat that.”
Her Abu Dhabi branch is the busiest in the group, but she is far from slowing down. With openings in Riyadh, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Al Ain, Sideris is busier than ever.
Does she ever rest? “When I’m working, I don’t. But when I’m on holiday, I switch off completely. No phone. For the most part, I like to be in nature. I swim, I relax.”
“The UAE is the land of opportunity. It’s become home. There is a warmth and generosity with the people here. Abu Dhabi is our busiest Tashas and the Flamingo Room is perfect for an intimate dinner,” she says.
Natasha Sideris has built more than a café brand over 20 years. She has built a home away from home, a place that feels familiar no matter where in the world you sit down for a cup of coffee.

Mansour Festival
Mansour Festival is back with four days of fun on Yas Island
Abu Dhabi’s favourite animated hero is making a comeback, and this time he’s bringing even more fun to Yas Island. The Mansour Festival returns for its second edition from November 20 to 23 at Yas Gateway Park North, with four days packed with games, shows, and local flavour.
If you missed it last year, think of it as a mash-up of learning and laughter, where families get to play, explore, and reconnect with Emirati culture. The first festival drew thousands, and this year’s line-up promises to be even bigger, with more characters, more activities, and plenty of surprises.
The adventure begins with Mansour & Sara: World of Discovery, an area designed to spark imagination and curiosity. Kids can roll up their sleeves for hands-on workshops that mix creativity with problem-solving. Nearby, Dhabia’s World celebrates Emirati heritage with storytelling, crafts, and a sense of nostalgia that brings the country’s past to life. It’s a space where grandparents, parents, and children can share a moment that feels both familiar and new.
For families who like a bit of action, there’s a huge inflatable park, packed with slides, obstacle courses, and challenges that will have everyone laughing. Over at Obaid’s Food Corner, food trucks serve everything from local street snacks to family favourites, making it the perfect pit stop between adventures. And for a taste of tradition, the Desert Riders zone offers camel and horse rides that bring a hint of the desert to the city.
The Main Stage is where the festival really comes alive. Expect parades, live performances, and plenty of appearances from Mansour and his friends. As the sun dips, the party continues with spectacular fireworks and drone shows that light up the Yas Island sky in true Mansour style.

Mother of the Nation Festival
Three cities. One unforgettable celebration
Abu Dhabi’s most beloved family festival is back, and this time it’s going big. The Mother of the Nation Festival (MOTN) returns this winter to light up Al Dhafra, Al Ain, and the capital itself with weeks of fun, flavour, and fireworks.
Kicking off on November 28, the ninth edition of MOTN promises a full month of excitement across the emirate. You’ll first catch it in Al Dhafra and Al Ain from November 28 to December 2, before it sets up camp in Abu Dhabi from December 10 until January 4, 2026. While the exact Abu Dhabi venue hasn’t been announced yet, previous editions have turned the Corniche into a buzzing carnival, and we’re expecting more of the same this year.
Get ready for dazzling lights, international acts, art that makes you stop and stare, and rides that’ll make your inner child squeal. The festival is hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and pays tribute to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, affectionately known as the Mother of the Nation. It’s a celebration of family, creativity, and community, wrapped in the sparkle of the UAE’s winter season.
Last year’s edition transformed the Corniche into a playground split into four themed zones: Amuse, Thrill, Indulge, and Entertain. It had everything from carnival rides and escape rooms to creative workshops, basketball showdowns, and a roller rink that became the ultimate selfie spot. If that’s anything to go by, this year’s setup is likely to be even grander.
And let’s not forget the food. From sizzling food trucks to gourmet pop-ups, MOTN is a foodie’s dream. Add a little shopping therapy with pop-up boutiques and homegrown brands, and you’ve got the perfect day out.
Between celebrating National Day, dancing into the New Year, and soaking up all the cultural experiences on offer, MOTN 2025 is shaping up to be the ultimate celebration of everything we love about Abu Dhabi in winter. Whether you’re chasing thrills, hunting for your next Instagram moment, or just looking for a reason to stay outdoors all day, this festival has you covered.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAY HIS NAME 3 TIMES BEETLEJUICE…
AThe musical is coming to Abu Dhabi this November
bu Dhabi has been on a serious musical streak lately, drawing fans from all over the city (and the country) with its incredible lineup. In May, we felt the power of the people’s voices with Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular. June had us singing and dancing along to all the timeless hits of Mamma Mia!
And now, this month, get ready to meet the most hilariously chaotic ghost of all time when Beetlejuice The Musical takes over Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena.
What is Beetlejuice The Musical about?
Beetlejuice The Musical is based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, Beetlejuice, and tells the story of Lydia
Deetz. Lydia is a strange and unusual teenager dealing with grief from the loss of her mother and a neglectful father.
The house that they have recently moved into is haunted by a recently deceased couple and a degenerate demon with a thing for stripes. But thankfully, Lydia has a thing for ‘all-things-dead,’ and she calls on the ghosts to help scare away her father and step-mother.
Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan, which involves exorcism, an adorable girl scout who gets scared out of her wits, and a whole (nether)world of pandemonium.
And you can just imagine chaos that ensues.

ILiwa International Festival brings dune racing, family fun, and date palm traditions together
f you drive three hours southwest of Abu Dhabi, past mirage-lined roads and rolling ribbons of sand, you’ll reach Liwa. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down without trying to. The dunes rise and fall like waves frozen in time, and date palms stretch out across the horizon, adding patches of green to the golden desert. Life here is simple and deeply rooted in tradition. Locals still greet the desert like an old friend, and the air smells faintly of cardamom and firewood.
Every winter, Liwa swaps its quiet calm for the rumble of engines and the laughter of visitors as the Liwa International Festival takes over the dunes. From December 12, 2025 to January 3, 2026, the desert becomes a stage for speed, culture, and adventure. Organised by the Department of
Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, with the support of Liwa Sports Club and Al Dhafra Municipality, the 23-day festival celebrates everything the region is proud of.
At the foot of Tal Moreeb, one of the tallest dunes in the UAE, drivers from around the world gather to test their limits. There’s the Monster Jam, the Car Stunt Competition, and the Moreeb Dunes Cars Championship from December 29 to 31. The roar of engines echoes across the sand as competitors climb, spin, and soar through the dunes. For something even wilder, the Buggy Torque Race on December 10 lights up the desert after dark, with buggies tearing through the sand in a blur of dust and headlights.
But there’s more to Liwa than highoctane racing. The festival is also a tribute to the region’s traditions. It’s a place where the rhythm of drumming matches the beat of the engines and where families come to share food, stories, and laughter. The Liwa Village is the heart of it all, bringing together Emirati heritage, crafts, and food stalls that fill the air with the scent of kebabs and freshly brewed gahwa. Visitors can browse the marketplace, learn about traditional crafts, or simply sit back and enjoy the music.
When night falls, the desert changes character. The sky glows with a thousand stars, the dunes glimmer in the moonlight, and lanterns flicker across the festival grounds. Children run between stalls, performers take to the stage, and somewhere in the distance, another engine growls to life. It’s a mix of nostalgia and excitement that only Liwa can offer.
The Real Gold of Liwa
Beyond the festival, the Liwa region itself is worth exploring. It’s the largest oasis in the UAE, known for its date palm plantations and historic forts that stand as reminders of the country’s past. For visitors, it’s a chance to see the quieter side of the UAE, where the desert still feels untouched and timeless.
Date palms are the heart of Liwa. Long before highways and high-rises, these trees were the reason people could live here at all. They fed families, shaded homes, and shaped the rhythm of life in the desert. Every part of the tree had a purpose. The fruit was food, the fronds were used for weaving, and the trunks became beams for building. In Liwa, tending to date palms is a tradition that carries pride and patience. The plantations that spread across the oasis tell stories of endurance and care, proof that life can thrive even in the toughest conditions. Today, the date palm stands as a quiet symbol of Liwa’s spirit, strong, generous, and deeply rooted.
HERE’S WHAT NOT TO MISS AT THE LIWA INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
Liwa Village
Running from December 13, 2025 to January 4, 2026, Liwa Village captures the spirit of the region with its mix of tradition and entertainment. Explore themed zones such as Wanasa, Meydan, Adrenaline, Shams Liwa, Tarab Liwa, and Souk, each offering a different experience. There’s karting, gaming, and even Liwa’s first Ferris wheel with views of the glowing dunes. You can shop for local crafts, try traditional Emirati dishes, or catch a cultural performance under the desert sky. It’s lively, colourful, and full of heart.
Classic Car Exhibition
For car lovers, the Classic Car Exhibition is a highlight. The UAE’s love for automobiles runs deep, and this showcase tells that story beautifully. You’ll see gleaming vintage cars that have been carefully restored, each one reflecting years of dedication and craftsmanship. Owners proudly share the stories behind their vehicles, and you begin to understand why cars here are treated less like machines and more like family treasures.
Buggy Torque Race
The Buggy Torque Race brings pure desert drama. As the sun sets, the buggies line up, engines rumbling, lights piercing through the dark. Drivers tackle steep climbs and sharp turns, racing against the clock and each other. It’s fast, gritty, and thrilling to watch. For updates on the race or to book tickets, download the Liwa Sports Club (LSC) app.
W19 BRILLIANT WINTER ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND ABU DHABI
Cooler days, clear skies, and a city that balances culture, nature, and play
hen the breeze turns kind and sunsets last a little longer, Abu Dhabi becomes the UAE’s best invitation to step outside. The capital knows how to balance a morning of museums with an afternoon on the water and a night that ends with great food. Here is a handpicked list that reflects that balance, from calm to high-energy, city to desert, solo to family.
Walk, wheel or picnic the Corniche
The Abu Dhabi Corniche is winter’s living room. Rent bikes, stroll the boardwalk, settle on the sand, and time your visit for sunset when the skyline turns to silhouette and the air tastes a little salty.
02 03
Paddle the mangroves at golden hour
Jet ski or e-foil on a calm day
If the water is smooth, rent a jet ski from approved operators near the Corniche or Saadiyat. Feeling brave. Try an e-foil lesson and cruise above the water like a quiet superhero.
Slide a kayak or stand-up paddleboard into the channels at Jubail Mangrove Park or the Eastern Mangroves and watch herons patrol like patient lifeguards. The water is glassy, the light is soft, and the city feels far away despite being minutes down the road.
Jubail Mangrove Park
Abu Dhabi Corniche
Wake up with Saadiyat Beach
Powdery sand and turquoise water make Saadiyat Public Beach a simple pleasure that never gets old. Swim, read, repeat. If you want a day with extras, book a lounger at Saadiyat Beach Club and call it a mini holiday.
Louvre Abu Dhabi, slowly
Give yourself time at Louvre Abu Dhabi. Wander the galleries, then sit under the floating dome and listen to the water. It is the rare museum where the building is as restorative as the art.
Cultural Foundation and Qasr Al Hosn Pair Qasr Al Hosn, the city’s oldest standing structure, with the Cultural Foundation next door for exhibitions, workshops and a leafy courtyard that feels made for lingerers.
Qasr Al Watan by late afternoon
Hudayriyat for an active afternoon
Over on Hudayriyat Island, you can bounce between beaches, bike paths, skate zones, obstacle parks and casual dining at Marsana. It is the easy answer for mixed groups with mixed energy.
CLYMB OR INDOOR COASTERS, IF WIND SAYS NO
On breezy days, go vertical at CLYMB Abu Dhabi with record-breaking indoor skydiving and a towering climbing wall. Or ride your favourites at Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World without the summer queues.
The Presidential Palace complex is a lesson in detail. Arrive before dusk so the architecture glows, then stay for the evening projection show when the façade becomes a canvas. 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11
Desert day: Al Wathba Fossil Dunes
The Fossil Dunes look like the wind sculpted modern art. Go in the late afternoon for long shadows and cooler temperatures, then count stars on the drive back.
Yas Bay promenade
Take a lazy loop along Yas Bay. Sip something cold, pick a terrace with a view, and people-watch as the boardwalk warms up. Concert on the island later. Perfect.
CLYMB
12
Flamingo spotting at the wetlands
At Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, follow the trails and keep your camera ready. In winter the flamingos gather in wide pink flocks and the paths are made for unhurried walks.
15
Al Ain day trip Drive to the garden city for Al Ain Oasis, Qasr Al Muwaiji, the camel market, and that winding ascent of Jebel Hafeet. Finish with karak in Green Mubazzarah and promise yourself you will return.
18
Beach clubs for every mood
From laid-back Soul Beach to sunset-forward spots on Saadiyat, the capital’s beach clubs shine in winter. Book a bed, order something bright and citrusy, and let time melt.
Sir Bani Yas Island safari
Make a weekend of it on Sir Bani Yas. Game drives, quiet beaches and a sense of space that resets your pulse. It feels a world away but sits squarely within the Emirate.
19 13 14
Dune time in Al Khatim or Al Khazna
Book a guided desert trip for gentle dune bashing, sandboarding and a camp dinner under real stars. Safe, scenic, and surprisingly social.
Parks that earn your repeat visit Umm Al Emarat Park is winter’s answer to restless kids and grownups who need a green reset. Fountains, lawns, food trucks and weekend markets. Bring a blanket.
16 17
Run routes you will actually love Trade the treadmill for real air. The Corniche, Reem Central Park, and Yas Marina circuit evenings are friendly places to find your pace. The first outdoor 5K of the season always feels like cheating.
Karak and a late walk End simple. Karak in hand, take a slow lap through your favourite neighbourhood. Winter in Abu Dhabi is as much about the small rituals as the big-ticket days.
HOW TO PLAN IT WELL: Check marine forecasts for water days, book desert and island trips in advance, carry a light layer for breezy evenings, and keep a running list of cafés and beach spots you want to try. The joy of Abu Dhabi in winter is the balance. A morning filled with art, an afternoon in the mangroves, a night that glows with good food and easy company. Pick two or three, leave room for a detour, and let the season do its work.
CULTURE // UAE MARATHONS

From the palms of Al Ain to the city lights of Abu Dhabi, these events are as much about crossing the finish line as they are about the journey, the views, and the sense of community that comes with pounding the tarmac alongside hundreds of fellow runners.
CHASING THE SUN
Abu Dhabi’s marathon season heats up
8 November
Al Ain Half Marathon
Set your sights on the oasis city for the Al Ain Half Marathon, and prepare for a route that’s as scenic as it is satisfying. Starting in the heart of Al Ain, the course winds past towering date palms, heritage sites, and stretches of desert that glow golden under the early morning sun. Whether you’re tackling the full 21km, testing yourself on the 10km, taking a steady pace in the 5km, or enjoying a leisurely 2.5km, the city’s charm is hard to beat. This race is about more than speed. It’s a chance to soak in the history and culture of Al Ain, often called the Garden City for good reason. Running through refreshing oases, quiet streets lined with palms, and then reaching the finish line that makes you feel like you’ve earned every step. Families, friends, and running enthusiasts will all find something to cheer for. Even if you’re not racing, the energy from the sidelines is electric.
13 December

The city’s skyline, iconic landmarks, and carefully planned courses make this marathon as much a sightseeing tour as it is a challenge. But don’t worry if you haven’t clocked enough training sessions yet, the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon Free Training Sessions are here to get you race-ready.
These sessions run from Throughout November and December, giving runners in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra a chance to build stamina, perfect form, and meet fellow participants.
Abu Dhabi Training sessions:

Al Ain Training session:

These sessions are also a chance to swap stories, share tips, and feel the excitement of a growing running community. There’s a camaraderie that comes from training for something bigger than yourself, whether that’s your first half marathon or your tenth full. Plus, let’s be honest, the motivation of running alongside others is hard to beat, especially when you’ve got the cool desert evenings keeping things comfortable.
WHY RUN IN THE UAE?
Running in the UAE is a visual treat. The landscapes shift from palm-lined streets and heritage landmarks in Al Ain to modern skyscrapers, waterfronts, and desert backdrops in Abu Dhabi. Each race offers a different kind of thrill. Some are about achieving personal goals, others about celebrating the season with friends and family. But all of them share one thing: a feeling of connection. Whether you’re a casual jogger or a competitive runner, these events are designed to bring people together, celebrate health and endurance, and make running as much fun as it is challenging.
TIPS FOR RUNNERS
Timing is everything. Most UAE marathons are scheduled in cooler months, but early mornings and late evenings are your best friend. Hydrate, pace yourself, and enjoy the scenery. And don’t underestimate the power of the free training sessions. They’ll help you stay motivated, improve your technique, and meet other runners who might just become long-term running buddies.
RUN LIKE YOU MEAN IT: UAE MARATHON TRAINING GUIDE
Whether you’re chasing the Al Ain Half Marathon on 8 November or the Abu Dhabi Marathon on 13 December, a little planning goes a long way. Here’s your no-nonsense guide to getting race-ready.
01 Start Smart
Don’t just lace up and hope for the best. Begin with short, manageable runs three to four times a week. Gradually increase distance. Mix in easy runs, a slightly faster pace day, and one long, slow run on weekends. Your body will thank you.
02 Strength Matters
Running isn’t just legs. Add strength exercises to prevent injuries. Include squats, lunges, planks, and pushups. Core strength helps your stride and posture, making those last kilometers feel easier.
03
Don’t Skip Recovery
Stretch, foam roll, and get enough sleep. Muscle soreness is part of the game, but ignoring it leads to injuries. A rest day is your best friend.
04 Hit the Free Training Sessions
ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon Free Training Sessions aren’t just for beginners. Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City Track meets Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30 pm. Al Ain runners head to Al Wadi Park on Monday and Thursday evenings at 7.30 pm, and Al Dhafra’s crew meet at Marabiaa Al Dhafra Track on Tuesday and Thursday at 8 pm. These sessions help you build endurance, improve form, and make running buddies who get the thrill of a finish-line high.
05 Fuel Your Body
Hydration and nutrition are key in the UAE heat. Water before, during, and after runs is non-negotiable. Carbrich meals fuel longer runs, protein supports recovery, and healthy fats keep energy steady.
Top UAE supplements
Want to boost performance safely? These are popular among UAE runners:
• Electrolyte powders: Keeps you hydrated during long runs. Look for options like Hydralyte or Nuun.
• Protein powders: Whey or plant-based for post-run recovery.
Optimum Nutrition and MyProtein are widely available.
• BCAAs: Branch-chain amino acids help reduce fatigue and muscle soreness.
• Omega-3 capsules: Support joint health and inflammation management.
• Energy gels or chews: Quick fuel for mid-run energy, especially on long distances.
06 Gear Up
Good shoes make a difference. Invest in a pair that suits your gait and distance. Lightweight clothing that wicks sweat keeps you comfortable in the UAE’s warm climate. And don’t forget a cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen for daytime runs.
07 Mental Game
Running is 90 per cent mind, 10mper cent legs. Break long runs into chunks, set mini-goals, and reward yourself. Music, podcasts, or a running buddy can make the miles fly by.
08 Race Day Ready
Start slow, stick to your pace plan, and enjoy the scenery. Hydrate at every station, take your energy gels if you’re on longer distances, and soak in the atmosphere. Crossing the finish line isn’t just about speed, it’s about the story you’ve created every step of the way.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Emirates Palace
The Spa
If Abu Dhabi had a crown jewel, it would be the Emirates Palace. Dripping in gold and grandeur, it’s where luxury is a way of life. Hidden within its lush grounds is The Spa, an award-winning sanctuary at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi.
The Setting
Inspired by Moroccan and oriental heritage, The Spa blends centuries-old healing traditions with modern wellness. The décor, the soft music, even the artwork, is deliberate. Marble floors, lotus-shaped treatment rooms and the gentle sound of flowing water make it luxurious, classy and calm in a way that sinks into your bones.
The Treatment
Hammam has been part of Middle Eastern culture for centuries and at The Spa it feels both ritual and indulgence. The Oriental Rose Hammam starts with warm water gently poured over your body, followed by
a layer of black olive soap with rose petals and lavender. Time in the steam room softens the skin before a kessa exfoliation removes dead cells. Then comes a rose rhassoul mask for body and hair, a mint foot soak to boost circulation, and a gentle hair wash and conditioning with argan and oud oils. The treatment ends with a rose rinse and rose mist, leaving you soft, fragrant and strangely weightless. For an extra layer of luxury there is the Secret of the Stones massage. Warm stones are used in an ancient lithotherapy technique to stimulate reflex points and open the chakras. It is meditative, grounding and leaves your body feeling completely reset.
The Facility
Nothing is out of place. Marble baths glisten, soft music flows and every detail feels intentional. It is indulgent without being over the top. Even the air smells like it belongs there. You could spend hours just wandering the corridors and feel stress slowly slide off your shoulders.
The Service
Having someone wash you can feel awkward at first, but the therapist’s calm guidance puts you at ease. She explains what she is doing and why, answers questions without overexplaining and finds the perfect balance between conversation and silence. She speaks just enough,
allowing silence to fill the gaps in a way that feels comforting rather than awkward. By the end it feels natural, not staged.
The Experience
You start with a spinach, apple and ginger welcome drink. Then it is the Lotus Room, bathed in a soft pink glow, and the 60-minute Oriental Rose Hammam. Warm water, black soap, steam, kessa scrub, rose mask, mint foot soak, hair wash and conditioning, rinse and rose mist. Each step flows into the next and by the time it is over you feel like you are floating. The ritual ends with Moroccan mint tea, the final touch to a truly indulgent experience.
What’s on the Bill Hammam treatments start at Dhs850 and go up to Dhs1,600.
What’s On Verdict
The Spa at Emirates Palace is about feeling cared for in a way that’s rare and intentional. It is a splurge, yes, but one everyone should experience at least once. It is luxurious, calming and immersive. From the moment you step into the treatment room, you are carried away, and afterwards you feel lighter, softer and completely renewed.

STAY HERE
Corinthia London
A grand dame in the beating heart of London, few addresses are surrounded by as many iconic landmarks as Corinthia London. With the South Bank, London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and even Buckingham Palace within walking distance, you’re perfectly primed to tick off London’s crown jewels. But there’s as much to enjoy on property as there is surrounding Corinthia London.
Smartly dressed doormen cheerily greet guests – and keep the crowds at bay when VIP guests are checking in, a regular occurrence at this London legend. A stay in the hotel’s recently revamped suites laces British heritage with modern comforts, a masterclass in oldmeets-new design with bespoke British furniture, soft hues of olive green and muted saffron, and a grand marble bathtub. A Corinthia newspaper and glass jar stocked with sweets, add thoughtful, retro touches.
Dining is a gourmet affair. The star power of chef Tom Kerridge resides over Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, where crimson leathers and moody lighting create. A rich and retro brasserie with a masculine touch, guests flock here for breakfasts of fresh fruit and pastries laid out in a neat buffet by the bar, or fuel up for a day of
exploring with a la carte orders of eggs. Wrap up and dine alfresco at The Garden, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it courtyard that transports you straight to the Mediterranean thanks to its verdant botanical décor and menu of standout dishes like creamy burrata di Puglia and red Sicilian prawns. Then there’s Velvet, a discreet drinking den hidden in partnership with an icon of mixology, Salvatore Calabrese. The setting is intimate and exclusive, the cocktails reinterpret classics with imaginative flair, and glamour oozes from every corner – especially if you catch yourself here when there’s a live pianist.
But the crowning feature here is found in the hotel basement – the four-floor ESPA Life spa. Although calling it a spa doesn’t do this haven of relaxation justice. There’s a warren-like maze of treatment rooms, where facials using the latest Augustinus Bader products transform tired city skin. A restorative thermal floor featuring an indoor swimming pool, vitality pool backed by a flickering fireplace, sauna and steam room, where guests can unwind in pure bliss. And even a room of ‘sleeping pods’ designed to provide total relaxation.
Room rates start from Dhs4,505 per night. @corinthialondon

A blend of East-meets-West flavours in a setting that’s sleek and sophisticated, you may first come for the views that stretch across London, but you return time and again for acclaimed chef Endo Kazutoshi’s inventive cuisine. Defined by his personal and professional memories, dishes are bold and flavour-packed, and the best way to experience them is with the seasonally-changing seven course tasting menu.

Discover timeless antiques, sample street food delights from around the world, and soak in the atmosphere – few places compare. And for lovers of the famous Notting Hill film, a stop by the iconic blue door – found just off the main street – is essential.

THE GCC ESCAPE THAT HAS IT ALL Doha:
A city that mixes skyscrapers with green calm, museum magic with souq bustle, and desert drama with a sea breeze
WORDS: LIAM JOYCE
There is a moment after you land in Doha when the glass and steel fall into place and you realise the city is not trying to shout. It glows. The skyline runs along the bay like a polished necklace, the Corniche curves the water into a graceful stage, and palms shake off the heat as if they have known cooler months are coming all along. If Dubai is the social butterfly with a calendar full of openings and Abu Dhabi is the friend who knows the quiet corners, Qatar’s capital Doha is the thoughtful host who sets the table, lights the candles, and then surprises you with a playlist that keeps the evening going. Familiar in all the right ways, different where it counts, and generous with time. It is a city that does not demand you cram everything into a single day, but rewards you when you do.
What makes the first impression stick is the balance, which I think everyone can appreciate. Yes, there are towers that catch the sun as if they invented it, but there are also parks and shaded walks that soften the pace. Drive through West Bay and you see mirror-finish offices, then in minutes you are on the Corniche watching joggers, families, and retirees sharing the same path. Cross into Education City and the green opens out at Oxygen Park, with lawns ribboning around running tracks and sculpted earth mounds that double as playgrounds for both children and adults who refuse to stop being children. Aspire Park gives you a lake, long loops for walkers, and that happy hum that comes when people claim public space at golden hour. Doha is modern but it is not hard. It has edges, but they are sanded smooth by trees, waterfronts, and a civic pride that likes to plant something wherever it can.

City activities
Start at the water with mornings on the Corniche that feel like a soft reset for busy minds. Dhows bob in slow motion, the skyline throws clean reflections, and the air carries that salty promise that your day might turn out better than your diary suggests. From here, Doha begins to reveal its neighbourhoods. Souq Waqif (@soukwaqifdoha) pulls you into a maze of lanes that still smell of spice and fresh bread. If you linger by the spice trays, someone will tell you what to do with sumac. If you admire a textile for too long, a tailor will gesture to a stool as if you have already decided. Sit for karak. it arrives hot and sweet and the world becomes very manageable in three sips.
Msheireb Downtown works as a reset button after the sensory sprint of the souq. It is a district with shaded streets, creamy stone walls, and a tram that slips past like a polite whisper. Cafés spill onto pavements, galleries hide around corners, and there is space to look up and admire the geometry of it all. If you prefer your city energy turned up a notch, Lusail answers after dark. Lusail Boulevard lights like a runway and then fills with families, friends, and that shuffling optimism of a place that believes in evening plans. The Pearl is for long lunches and boats that make you agree that white hulls are a personality type. Katara Cultural Village threads beach, amphitheatre, and alleyways painted with murals, and walks you gently into sunset.
Arts and museums
Doha’s cultural circuit is compact enough to conquer in a weekend and rich enough to justify another visit. The Museum of Islamic Art (@miaqatar) sits on its own promontory, a composition of light and shadow that I. M. Pei drew like a poem. Inside, galleries guide you through centuries of making. You move from glazed bowls that learned how to hold colour before Instagram did, to calligraphy that curls and flows as if the letters are dancing. It is the kind of museum where you step closer, step back, and then step closer again because detail insists.
to settle family disputes about who is actually the most competitive. Do not skip the smaller stops. The Fire Station (@dohafirestattion) is a former civil defence building repurposed into studios and galleries that nurture local artists. M7 (@m7.qatar) is a design and fashion hub where exhibitions feel fresh and shop windows are curated with care. Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art (@mathafmodern) gives context to artists whose names you might not know yet but will. These spaces make it easy to believe the city when it calls itself a cultural crossroads. They are also excellent places to hide from the sun a little longer than you planned.
A short ride away, the National Museum of Qatar (@nmoqatar) unfurls like a desert rose. The building is a statement in itself, all interlocking discs and shifting light. It turns history into something you feel. Pearling boats, Bedouin tents, oral histories, moving images. Each section opens to the next so smoothly that you forget to check your phone, which is the highest praise we can offer any museum in 2025. If you have room for more, and you should, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (@321qosm) is a gift to anyone who has ever claimed it was definitely offside. Exhibits jump from ancient games to modern heroics and there are enough interactive corners

Into the dunes
Cities are wonderful, but nothing rewires a weekend like the desert. The drive to the Inland Sea, Khor Al Adaid, is the sort of transition that feels like magic even when you know every turn. Asphalt gives way to sand, buildings shrink to a memory and the sky opens wider than it has any right to. If you book a guided trip (@inboundtoursqatar), your convoy pauses to lower tyre pressures and you pretend you are not excited, then someone shouts when the first ridge drops away and the car slides. Dune bashing is an art built on physics and bravado. It is as safe as the professional behind the wheel and as wild as you want to feel. Sandboarding is the part where you discover that gravity is a comedian and you are the punchline. The desert forgives ungraceful landings, I can’t relate, but I have been told. If dunes feel too bold for your first day, head instead to Al Thakira and paddle through mangroves where herons patrol like thin, elegant lifeguards. The water is calm, the channels twist gently, and the only thing you need to bring is a hat, water, and a sense that time is allowed to slow. It is a soft adventure that makes a big difference to your mood.
The final word
Travel writing is fond of the word tapestry, yes, very clichéd, but Doha earns it. It is the skyline and the shoreline. It is museum quiet and souq chatter. It is a dune that falls into the sea and a park that holds the heat at arm’s length. You can go for a long weekend and never run out of things that make you feel both away and at ease. You can stack your days with city loops and your evenings with art, then spend the next day unlearning speed in the desert. You can try new dishes and return to old favourites and smile at how very quickly a place can feel friendly.

A world away…
THE STAY
Tucked away along a stretch of pristine private shoreline, The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Hamra Beach is where barefoot luxury meets desert calm. With just 32 private villas, each with its own pool, this secluded escape is designed for total privacy and peace - the kind of place where the only sound is the soft crash of waves against the sand. Whether you’re coming from Dubai or beyond, it feels a world away.
THE SETTING
Set along the tranquil coastline of RAK, this Ritz-Carlton outpost offers a serene seaside escape just an hour from Dubai. The resort sits on a secluded stretch of beach framed by calm turquoise waters on one side and desert dunes on the other. It’s intimate, quiet, and effortlessly beautiful, close enough to Ras Al Khaimah’s marina and golf courses for a little exploring, yet far enough to feel completely removed from the everyday.
THE ROOM
We stayed in a Beach Pool Villa, a perfect blend of coastal chic and Arabian elegance.
It feels like a tent yet it has wooden ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows that open directly onto your own private pool and beach cabana, and there’s even a bathtub outside. Inside, the king bed is cloud-soft, the bathroom features a rain shower, and thoughtful touches make the experience feel personal and polished, such as fruit when you arrives. Sunset swims in your private pool are a must.
THE FOOD & DRINK
The resort’s signature restaurant, The Shore House, is a Mediterranean-inspired beachfront spot that nails the balance between relaxed and refined. Breakfast is an indulgent affair with à la carte classics, fresh juices, and sea views that make coffee taste even better. For dinner, seafood takes centre stage, but we loved the steak, perfectly cooked and juicy. Private dining can also be arranged on the beach or in your villa for extra romance.
THE ACTIVITIES
Days unfold slowly here. Start with sunrise yoga by the sea, take a dip in your pool, or hop on a paddleboard to explore the calm bay. The resort can organise snorkelling
trips, sunset cruises, or spa treatments where the treatment rooms look out onto the beach and let you hear the waves as you unwind. Guests also have access to sister property Al Wadi Desert, just a short drive away, for desert safaris, horse riding, or falconry - the best of both worlds.
THE EXPERIENCE
The Ritz-Carlton Al Hamra Beach is all about effortless indulgence. Service is warm but never intrusive and every detail is anticipated, from cool towels on arrival to perfectly timed turndown treats. It’s romantic, restorative, and wonderfully slow. The kind of place that reminds you how good quiet can feel.
