Ajman itself has no airport. The nearest airports are Sharjah International Airport (25 minutes from Umm Al Quwain city) and Dubai International Airport (40 minutes from Umm Al Quwain city). There are taxis available from the airports to Ajman. Most hotels also offer transfer services if you hold a confirmed booking with them.

A massive multi-million-dirham development plan on an area of over 1 million square metres is in progress in the Free Zone, which on completion will be able to accommodate 1500 companies. Ajman Port has also emerged as an important maritime focal point today. A massive development plan for Ajman Ports, in progress, seeks to enhance its facilities to world level in the near future.

Ajman is the smallest of the seven emirates and is centrally located on the western coast of the UAE. The area of the emirate of Ajman is about 460sq km, while the total area including the regional waters is about 600sq km Ajman city is the capital of the emirate and lies down a small creek of 16km. length to the north-east of Sharjah.

The Ajman economy has been largely dependent on fishing and trade. However, the trend of general economic development in the UAE has caught up with Ajman, too. Ajman has established itself as a major business centre, drawing investors—both local and international. The economy of Ajman in the past was mainly based on its strong maritime tradition—fishing, shipbuilding, pearl diving and trading.
