Our company has such a rich and colourful past that condensing thoughts into one page is almost impossible. I am often struck by how the stories of Land Rover and the Middle East are intertwined. Since the launch of the Series I in 1948, Land Rover and the region have walked hand in hand. In our early days we provided an essential mode of transport, connecting people and states when few roads existed. As the only vehicle that could handle the harsh environment, for many people a Land Rover was the first car they ever saw. Then, during the oil boom of the 1970s we introduced the Range Rover with the same unique capability but unprecedented refinement and comfort. The Middle East has now become home to some of the most sophisticated consumers in the world, and it is our ambition and objective to keep pace and even surpass their expectations. After sixty-five years, Land Rover continues to build a range of classleading luxury SUVs, whilst remaining true to our ethos of technical innovation and off-road capability. It has been my great honour to unveil the latest, and perhaps the best, expression of that ethos at the 2012 Paris Motorshow. The all-new Range Rover showcases everything we know about luxury, design and performance in a lightweight package. I believe that we have continued our proud tradition of building vehicles that truly ‘belong’ in the Middle East, and look forward to presenting our new flagship to you. Enjoy the book. DR
