THE SUMMER ESCAPE

OF REFORM ATHLETICA, SHARES HOW PILATES AND TRX CAN CARVE OUT A SENSE OF PEACE AND MENTAL ESCAPE THIS SUMMER AND BEYOND

CREATIVE DIRECTION: AMY SESSIONS PHOTOGRAPHY: ŽIGA MIHEL I

Talk us through your background. I am a lawyer who has been practicing in London for the past 15 years. In fact, it was the very nature of my job that inspired me to start Reform Athletica during my frequent visits to Dubai. I split my time between London and Dubai and have recently taken the decision to step away from my legal career to focus on Reform Athletica as we embark on growing the brand within the GCC and beyond. What inspired you to launch Reform Athletica? Having experienced the benefits of strength training firsthand (lifting, TRX and reformer Pilates/Lagree), I wanted to bring to Dubai a concept that delivered a one-stop shop that catered to everyone’s fitness needs. As a type 1 Diabetic myself, I know the importance of staying healthy and fit and we recognised a gap in the Dubai market for a class-based fitness studio with high quality training. My work brought me to Dubai often and when searching for studios in the city to continue with my fitness regime, the options were few and far between. After some initial due diligence, it seemed like the opportune moment to make Dubai home to Reform Athletica. At Reform Athletica, we believe transformation comes through our signature approach, RITUAL, which is based on three pillars: Move, Connect, Reflect. For us, it is not a choice between parts, it is the loop that closes the circle, the rhythm that evolves as you do. These pillars are the foundation of our brand, our training philosophy and our community. Every decision, every design element, every class, every experience, stems from these pillars. We move together in class, we build connections in and out of class and through everything we do, we reflect on how far we’ve come.

Reform Athletica was one of the first Lagree/ Pilates studios in Dubai – how has the Lagree/Pilates game transformed in the UAE since you’ve launched? True to Dubai form, the emirate has outdone itself, even in the Lagree/Pilates market. When we opened there were only a handful of options, whereas we are now spoilt for choice. It is very encouraging to see a lot of start-ups opening and I believe that Dubai offers the very best due to the very nature of the city attracting the best talent. We are fortunate to have been one of the first and have built a great community over the past 7 and half years and have clients and supporters (like Emirates Woman) who have been with us since the very start. We could not have done it without them.

What are some of the key classes at Reform Athletica – tell us about the benefits? We have the Reform Method which is Lagree/Pilates for low impact but high intensity. The second is Strength, which is a bootcamp total body conditioning class using weights, TRX and bursts of cardio. The third is Sculpt & Burn for a matt Pilates barre fusion class, the fourth is Microform for a Lagree session that packs a punch using a smaller machine and the fifth is yoga, stretch and sound meditation for the re-set of the body. We pride ourselves on having developed a holistic offering that caters to clients of all ages, fitness levels and backgrounds. Although we are known for our Lagree/Pilates, our unsung hero classes are the Strength bootcamp, micro TRX and yoga. My favourite class is RA Strength because it is a great cardio/HIIT style class that gets the heart rate up with a lot of lifting and weights.

Can you tell us about the importance of strength training as women get into their 30s and 40s for longevity? Strength training is crucial not just women in their 30s and 40s but men too, as it helps preserve muscle mass, boost metabolism, and improve bone density, which are all factors

FASHION EDITOR: CAMILLE MACAWILI; MAKEUP & HAIR: KAROLINA KUROWICKA; MODEL: MANSI; STYLING WITH THANKS TO VAARA

in preventing age-related decline and supporting long-term health. As we enter our 30s and 40s, our muscle mass naturally decreases, which is why resistance training (think lifting, TRX and body conditioning) helps maintain that muscle. I cannot stress enough how important this is, as the work we put in now will largely dictate how competently we can weather the inevitable consequences of aging. What are your top tips for maintaining a fitness routine even during the holidays? Get your steps in. That’s the easiest way to stay active during the holidays. If you can’t face the gym: walk, run, swim. Do something that is different to your usual routine if you can. If you’re a gym aficionado, try to find a personal trainer wherever you’re going to do at least one or two sessions a week. I’ve recently started doing that when I’m on the road and it’s been great for mixing up my routine because every trainer is different, and your routine gets switched up with variety. It’s also great as it holds me accountable and makes sure I get my workout in the schedule with no excuses to put it off. Tell us about the studio aesthetics – why was it important to design this that way? Brick and mortar is important and that starts with designing for a hospitable, comfortable and high-end environment. More so than aesthetics, it is important to create a place that works for what we want to do. We love to incorporate lots of light and earthy tones to create a space that is timeless and classy. Art is a very important element of our design and aesthetic at Reform Athletica – art is our “wallpaper.” We believe that art has the ability to transform a space and at Reform Athletica we have an eclectic collection of artists from El Seed, Picasso, Damien Hirst and Fontana. The art of our studios has been collected over nearly a decade, years before the opening of our Jumeriah studio and the effort is constant. As we plan for expansion, we continue to monitor the art market and our search for interesting works covers Dubai and the auctions in London, Paris and New York. We have some interesting new works in our collection that will be displayed in the Abu Dhabi and Riyadh studios opening later this year, including Julian Opie, Niki Saint Phalle, and Kusama. What summer-specific classes or recovery tools do you recommend to beat burnout and heat exhaustion? Maintain your workout regime even during the summer. It’s easy to slip out of the ‘healthy habits’ during the summer because of the holidays, but treat your summer as you do any other month. Approach it with intention and discipline and ensure you are getting enough sleep, drinking lots of water and maintaining movement in whatever form. Switch to indoor activities, whether fitness classes or even a game of paddle when it is too hot outside. As a female founder balancing it all, what advice do you have for carving out mindful moments to reset for the busy season? Movement is the best reset. It is so easy to keep chugging along when you’re busy with a never ending to do list. However, I have found that a walk, a class, a run or a workout – any movement in whatever form, is the best way to break up the day, to reset, rebalance and give the brain a break. Mindfulness is taking stock of where you are and understanding what your body and mind needs. Once you’ve

got that understanding, it becomes second nature to introduce mini mental and physical breaks for that much needed reset. What are you expansion plans in the GCC? We’ve already announced earlier in the year our current expansion plans into Abu Dhabi and for our first location out of the UAE, in Riyadh. It feels like the natural next step for us, and we are very excited for where we will be by the end of 2025. That’s not to say that we are done with Dubai – things are cooking behind the scenes, and we will share more news when the time is right. This is the very reason why I have stepped out of my legal career to focus on our expansion plans, and I am very excited for where we will take the brand over the next two to three years.

This is The Summer Escape Issue – where do you plan on travelling to this Summer? Aside from London, I will be between Riyadh, Dubai and Abu Dhabi to oversee the new and existing locations. But I am hoping to get some time off in August for an active break in Switzerland.

A DARING EYE

We discuss building an ecommerce brand with intellect, gut feel and a sense of individuality with Tiffany Hsu, Chief Buying Officer at Mytheresa, and hear what she’s packing for summer

How does your morning routine set you up for optimal success and how does this change or not according to your travel schedule? My daily routine usually starts by getting my baby up and ready for childcare. If I am not on duty, I love beginning the day with a Pilates or yoga class, it clears my mind and energises me, setting the tone ready for a productive and focused day.

What is your approach to building out the buy for Mytheresa as it has a strong sense of individuality? Our approach is always customer-first, understanding what excites them and anticipating what they are looking for is our number-one priority. We analyse data to spot opportunities, stay on top of trends, and make sure we are having fun within the assortment. Our clients are incredibly fashion-savvy and always in-the-know, so we focus on delivering the most exciting and curated selection out there to keep them inspired.

What learnings did you take with you to equip you for this from previous roles, and how much did you learn as you built the brand? Every experience from my previous jobs has been valuable and shaped the way I work. I started from the bottom, I understand the challenges at every level of the business. What we have built today – both the team and the business – is the result of years of learning, both from our achievements and failures. One of the most important lessons as a buyer is truly understanding each brand, representing them in the most authentic way possible, and knowing exactly what they mean to our clients. How would you differentiate Mytheresa from other ecommerce brands? We are really proud of our curated edit, especially our exclusive and capsule collections we create for our clients. They come to us because they know they will find something different, something they can’t find everywhere else.

What do you look for in a new brand and which new brands are you most excited about bringing to the platform? The brand’s DNA needs to be fresh and exciting, something we don’t already offer but that our clients are looking for. And of course, quality and craftsmanship are essential and non-negotiable.

We are really excited about a new shoe brand launching this season, Herbert Levine. The creative director comes from a quiet luxury background and really understands what modern women want when it comes to shoes. How important is gut feeling when it comes to spotting the next big thing and how do you balance this with data?

Gut instinct plays a huge role, especially with emerging brands that don’t have data yet. But it is not just intuition, we also evaluate a range of factors like logistics, production, quality, and the market gap the brand fills. It is all about taking smart, calculated risks.

What are the key essentials for summer packing no matter where you’re travelling if you’re only taking hand luggage? My swimsuits and bikinis from Wardrobe NYC and Oséree, my Alaïa wedge sandals, and The Row flip-flops are essentials. I always pack a Jacquemus piece and something from Magda Butrym, and there’s always a Loewe item in the mix, effortless and perfect for any destination. Mytheresa has had some incredible partnerships with brand such as Christopher Esber. How have these come about and how long do they take from concept to coming

to fruition? It usually takes 9 to 12 months to bring a collaboration to life. We plan far in advance since the collections are made exclusively for us, which involves close communication with the brands. We start by identifying the right moment and business opportunities, then we build range plans and moodboard proposals to share – that’s when the conversation begins. It is a very organic, collaborative process between us and the brand, because we know very well what our clients need and what works for our business. Which brands or pieces drive sales season after season? Dolce& Gabbana is one of our most prominent capsules every year. The designers continually raise the bar, creating collections that are both bold and beautiful. This season, I am especially loving their cotton two-piece sets – maxi skirts and bloomers – they are playful, elegant, and endlessly wearable. For the first time ever, we also launched an exclusive collection of home & tableware with the brand, a truly exciting moment. How do you keep the number of designers on the platform

so edited? We make sure that every brand we bring on has real potential for growth. Rather than adding many brands with similar aesthetics, we focus on fewer and invest more energy into each one. It is about making each partnership meaningful and successful, if we don’t see a future with a brand, we don’t bring them on.

With social media constantly changing, how do you stay ahead of the curve? You just have to spend time on it, be curious and keep engaging. It is not easy when you are short on time, but it is important to be well-versed and stay on top of it.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be? Don’t be scared of failure or rejection. Keep moving toward your goal, you’ll always get there. And stay focus on where you are going – everything else is just part of the journey!

This is The Summer Escape Issue – where will you be escaping to this summer? Good question! We’re still deciding between Spain or the Greek islands, both are calling.

“We filter everything through the lens of what’s timeless and wearable”

MONDAY

MOOD

Natasha Oakley, founder of Monday Swimwear, shares how the label turns every trip into an endless Summer

Talk us through your background. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, my mum and dad both owned their own businesses, so I grew up around that mindset. I started in digital content, working both behind and in front of the camera, which gave me a really unique perspective on storytelling and brand building. That experience eventually led to the creation of my own personal social media channel, and inevitably, to the birth of Monday Swimwear and its creative vision.

What inspired you to launch Monday Swimwear? It really started from a place of personal need. My co-founder, Devin and I couldn’t find swimwear that flattered our bodies and made us feel confident, let alone something that aligned with our lifestyle. So we created it ourselves. From day one, the goal was to design pieces that made women feel beautiful, supported, and comfortable, no matter their shape or size. That mission still guides everything we do today. Monday Swimwear has redefined what body confidence means in the swimwear space. What was the key vision behind the brand and how has that evolved? The original vision was always about body confidence, timeless style, and versatility. We wanted to break the mould of the “one body type” narrative and instead design pieces that celebrate real women and real curves. Over time, as our customers grew with us, we naturally expanded into resortwear and

lifestyle pieces, things you’d want to live in beyond the beach. That evolution felt really organic. Today, we’re just as focused on making you feel amazing poolside as we are at dinner, on vacation, or lounging at home. How does Monday Swimwear approach design? We’ve always stayed true to our design philosophy: clean lines, flattering fits, elevated neutrals, and wearable classics. Our pieces aren’t about chasing trends, they’re designed to outlive them. But we do pay attention to what our customer wants and where she’s going. It’s about evolving with her lifestyle while holding onto the essence of Monday: effortless, confident, and forever summer.

How do your travels influence your design choices? Travel is probably our biggest source of inspiration. Each destination brings out something different in our collections, from the soft pastel tones of the Mediterranean, to the vibrant colours of the Caribbean, the effortless silhouettes inspired by South American style, and the laid-back ease of the California coast. Even

our fabric choices are shaped by climate and culture – how something moves, how it feels on the skin after a long day in the sun. It’s all about designing with real life (and real holidays) in mind.

Where do you personally escape to recharge and find inspiration? Greece and Italy will always have my heart. My husband is Greek, so we spend a lot of time exploring the islands – there’s something so grounding about being near the water and surrounded by history and tradition. Italy is where we got engaged and married, so it’s a place I return to often for both romance and creative energy. Capri, Ischia, and the Amalfi Coast are my forever favourites. How do you balance global trends with staying true to your brand DNA? We filter everything through the lens of what’s timeless and wearable. We’re aware of trends, but we don’t let them define our direction. Instead, we ask ourselves: does this make sense for the Monday girl? Will she still love it next year? If the answer is yes, and it aligns with our DNA of confidence, elegance, and ease, we run with it.

You’ve grown your personal brand alongside Monday Swimwear – how do you separate or integrate your identities as influencers, entrepreneurs, and creatives? It’s definitely a balance, but the throughline is authenticity. The brand is such a reflection of our lives and style, so there’s a natural overlap. But we’re also intentional about creating space for each role, when I’m in creative mode, I’m fully in it. When I’m building something as an entrepreneur, I think strategically. And when I’m sharing online, it’s about connection and storytelling. Each piece supports the other. This is The Summer Escape Issue – where do you plan on travelling to this Summer? I’m currently mid-way through my summer travels! We started the trip in Paris, and I’ve just spent a few beautiful weeks in Greece both for work and a little downtime. Devin has been with me the whole time, and we’ll wrap up this leg together before heading our separate ways. Next up is Italy – my husband and I return every year. Capri, where we got engaged, is always a must. We’ll also be visiting Ischia and the Amalfi Coast. Normally we’d stay longer, but I’m flying home a little earlier this year as we’re opening our first Monday Swimwear store in Beverly Hills in July, such a special moment for the brand.

SUMMER

Inspired by the spirit of the sixties, Brazilian designer Adriana Degreas partners

NOSTALGIA

with Sabine Getty for a chic resortwear collection that laced notes of nostalgia

WORDS: CAMILLE MACAWILI

How did this collaboration come about? Was this an organic partnership from the outset, and what are the values that define Adriana Degreas as a brand that you align yourself with? It started organically. I have always loved Adriana Degreas’s glamourous and nostalgic aesthetic, and it felt very natural to join our creative worlds to do this capsule.

What are the key styles, and what was the inspiration for the prints we’re seeing in this capsule? I knew I wanted to create pieces that would be wearable at the beach but also out for cocktails. I have always been drawn to tiger print, and we did a lot of work together to

“I have always loved Adriana Degreas’s glamorous and nostalgic aesthetic, and it felt very natural to join our creative worlds to do this capsule”

find the perfect tone of colour for this particular tiger print that we used. My references were photos of Veruschka from the 1960s, and that’s why we created these fun kaftans and flowy pieces as well. How did you go about conceptualising the designs? We wanted to be able to provide a whole summer wardrobe, having skirts, dresses, overalls, bathing suits, bikinis, and even trousers. We tried to be as comprehensive as possible. How would you style the pieces during the day? They are so easy to wear! They can be worn as they are with lovely summer sandals, the bathing suits translate very well as bodysuits and can be worn with jeans or skirts. All the dresses effortlessly transition from daytime to evening.

What have you learned about yourself through this collaboration? Maybe how much some fashion images have marked my memory and affected my aesthetic. I truly love the glamour of the 1960s, and I find that’s something that kept coming up during this collaboration.

The campaign images ooze vintage Hollywood pin-up glamour. How did you work together with Adriana Degreas to achieve this, and was this the vision from the outset? We both agreed we wanted big hair and makeup, and wanted to steer away from this minimal look that we see in editorials. Veruschka was our main point of reference for this shoot. What were the challenges you faced? It was hard to do a final edit. It was so much fun creating, and there were so many pieces we loved, but we had to let some go in order to have a tight and coherent capsule. You’re able to put the fun in fashion and think beyond the norms, and this is evident with your jewellery pieces as well. How do you know when to push forward? To be honest, I don’t know how not to. If I’m doing something that I find boring, I can’t even imagine how people would receive it. I have to be amused and in a constant state of trying to surprise myself. Fun is the first driver in my creative process. This is The Summer Escape Issue – where will you be wearing the collection pieces come summer? I’m going to be wearing them in Italy, Spain, and the South of France. I can’t wait!

CRAFT AND CREATIVITY

Silvia Paulon, Founder and Creative Director of Dellaluna, discusses building a brand based on a strong DNA, elevated craftsmanship and where she’s spending the summer to feed her creativity

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? I’d love to say I start my day with yoga or something serene, but the truth is, I check my inbox before I even get out of bed. When you’re building a brand like Dellaluna, working across time zones, finalising collections, and obsessing over every detail, there’s very little that feels routine. Right now, I’m in that full-focus phase, and I believe that to create something lasting, you have to be all in. But I also live in Venice, so the moment I step outside, the great beauty of the city resets my whole nervous system and just like that, I’m happy. How has your multicultural background influenced the duality in your work? I’ve lived in ten different countries, and each one shaped the way I see and create. It taught me to read the aesthetic codes of different cultures and translate them into my design language while respecting their heritage. I often see unexpected connections like the shared visual richness between Venice and the Middle East. That mix of influences lives at the heart of Dellaluna, where tradition meets modernity and something personal comes to life. Dellaluna is timeless, yet it feels intensely current. How do you stay rooted in heritage while still creating for the modern woman? Because women are timeless. I have a very defined muse for Dellaluna, that diva from classic Italian cinema. She’s strong, free, sensual, and ironic. She doesn’t need to choose between the past and the now. I don’t think too much about time. I follow emotion. Heritage, for me, lives in the hands, in how something is made; that part never changes. Our pieces carry memory but belong fully to the present. From lion’s paws to golden seals and the Affresco technique, how did these become the defining signatures of Dellaluna? I saw each detail like a little sculpture. The lion’s paws could have been earrings. The Leoni Lock, a ring – I didn’t want anything flat. I wanted emotion. Even if it felt impossible or too much, I did it anyway. I put so much love into every piece, and I think women feel that because beauty needs codes. And mystery. And I love the idea that she’ll notice something she didn’t expect, something just for her that whispers a story. Your time in high jewellery still informs your design language. How did your experience working with rare stones influence the way you approach handbag design today? In the high-jewellery world, nothing is casual. Even the space between the stones has

meaning. My first mentor taught me that the back of a jewel is where its soul lives. If that part is made with care, the whole piece feels true. That stayed with me. When I design, I think like a filmmaker; every line, every detail should create emotion. A bag, like a jewel, should feel intimate, as if it were always meant to belong to the woman who wears it. You collaborated with Caviar Kaspia Dubai. How did the partnership come to fruition? It was the most organic and joyful collaboration I’ve ever done. It all started in Venice, at a dinner with my friends, the superstar interior designers Chahan Minassian and Richard Makin-Poole, and Ramon, the owner of Caviar Kaspia. We were reflecting on the art of making life fabulous and realised we’re all pretty excellent at it. So, in the most natural way, we decided to collaborate. The idea was to create a Kaspia x Dellaluna capsule that brings together two things we love deeply: the highest level of craftsmanship and the joy of celebration. That night, I was so inspired, I didn’t sleep. I designed all night and sent

apology. Each clutch carries a bit of that excess. Like wearing a piece of a dream. Do you see buying patterns in terms of global sales or within the Middle East, and which pieces drive sales season after season? The Affresco is the soul of Dellaluna. It’s the first handbag I’ve ever designed and the first piece we ever launched. Two weeks later, Lady Gaga wore it in black, and since then, it’s never stopped being asked for. Now, we only sell it in our store in Venice, by order. It’s too precious, too difficult to make, to be distributed. Some things are meant to stay rare. In the Middle East, they adore the Virna, and the Jewellery Clutches are not even out yet, but the waiting list in my DMs is already longer than I expected.

As an independent brand, how do you navigate the global fashion market? I don’t sleep. It’s a wild ride, let me tell you. But I don’t see myself competing with the big luxury houses. My clients already have all of that. They’re looking for something more unique, something they discover, that tells a story, and is made

“To create something lasting, you have to be all in”

Ramon the full collection over WhatsApp the next morning. He replied: I love it! And that was it. The rest happened just like the best things in life do, spontaneously. The new Jewellery Clutch Collection blurs the line between object and heirloom. What role does legacy play in your design decisions? I feel that legacy is something that happens when a piece becomes part of someone’s story. If a woman holds on to a Dellaluna because it reminds her of a night, a city, or a version of herself she loved, that’s enough. And I do think these bags carry that kind of magic. There’s something in these pieces, a feeling that you can’t explain, but you feel it. Each clutch is inspired by a different Venetian era – how did you instill the essence of these art movements into one object? What I love about Venice is that all these eras live together, in this beautiful chaos. Renaissance, Baroque, Byzantine, it’s all layered, clashing. That’s the spirit I used. I didn’t try to recreate them, I translated them into states of mind. Grandeur, seduction, devotion. This idea of more is more. Beauty without

with even more care and quality than the rest. Your life and work are driven by intuition. How do you know when something is ready – whether it’s a design, a launch, or a creative decision? I just feel it. There’s no formula. I don’t follow any fashion calendar; when it’s ready, it’s ready. Sometimes it happens in one intense month where I barely leave the atelier, and sometimes it takes two years because it’s just not there yet. Now that the brand is growing so fast, everyone wants launch dates, plans, and spreadsheets. I smile, I nod, and then I go back to doing it my way. Let’s see how long I get away with it. This is The Summer Escape Issue – where will you be escaping to this summer? My ideal summer is Italian dolce vita, eating pasta at midnight, and jumping into the sea under a full moon. This year, I’ll mostly be in Venice, which somehow still feels like a surreal vacation, even though it’s home. Every evening, I close the store, take my little boat, and ride through the Grand Canal at sunset. It’s like living in a film. Then Paris for our party at Caviar Kaspia and Sicily, for a very Italian, very dramatic holiday. Always.

ELECTRIFYING ESCAPISM

Dubai-based fashion designer Sanah Yasin on building a contemporary brand that evokes year-round

wanderlust

What does the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? Mornings are all about spending a few minutes with the kids and getting them to school. After school drop-off, I am headed to some form of a workout. I love a good hot yoga class, boxing, or a Reformer method class. A good workout energises me for the rest of the day. What are the core values/DNA that define your brand? Sanah Yasin is built on a foundation of timeless elegance, thoughtful craftsmanship, and authentic self-expression. From the beginning, I wanted my brand to carry a sense of wanderlust – a feeling of movement, exploration, and connection with different cultures. Designs allow individuality, inspired by the world’s textures, colours, and stories of travel. Every piece crafted is to be cherished, worn, and remembered. I wanted to create experiences and memories every time someone wears my label. The palm tree motif has become a signature of Sanah Yasin. What does it represent to you personally, and how did it evolve into an emblem for the brand? Palm trees represent a sense of rooted elegance. They evoke a feeling of strength and softness. It bends but doesn’t break, feminine yet strong. It stands tall with grace even in shifting conditions. Over time, the palm tree became more than a motif – it became a message. A reminder to stay grounded while reaching for the sky. Your designs evoke a feeling of escape and often draw from colour palettes inspired by your travels. What destination has most surprised you creatively, and how did it shape a piece or collection? I’m inspired by all my travels and the artwork around me. A lot of the brighter colours were inspired by Morocco, a place that’s on my bucket list. The tiles and the colours there have been a huge source of inspiration for me. The colours of hotel lobbies around the globe are always inspiring too.

From raw silk kaftans to structured blazers, your collections blend heritage with bold modernity. How do you approach that balance between tradition and edge? With modern tailoring and bold styling, it becomes something entirely new. The key is how you style the product. I always like an elegant edge in the way I wear my label. There’s a strong sense of self-expression in your pieces. Who is the woman you design for, and what do you hope she feels when she wears Sanah Yasin? She’s a woman who loves to travel, someone who embraces elegance with a sense of quiet confidence. I want her to feel elegant, feminine, and completely herself, whether she’s walking through a new city or lounging by the sea. How has building your business in Dubai influenced your creative process and entrepreneurial vision? Dubai is the biggest inspiration for my line. I think of my brand as a love letter to the city that inspired it all. I wanted to capture the palm trees of the city. When starting my label, I asked myself, “If I could capture my time living in Dubai, what would that look and feel like?” I wanted to create a label that people could take back as a memory of their time visiting the city. Being in a city where East meets West, I’m constantly inspired by the mix of traditions, luxury, and modernity that defines Dubai. Entrepreneurially, Dubai pushes you to dream big. There’s a sense here that anything is possible, and that ambition fuels my long-term vision – not just to build a brand, but to shape the regional fashion Industry. As a Dubai-based designer, how do you see your work contributing to the narrative of modern Middle Eastern fashion on the global stage? My goal for my line was always to create pieces that resonate both locally and internationally. I grew up in Texas, and I wanted to make sure my brand resonates with a larger audience. The thought process when creating my brand was to create pieces that were modest for the region but could also be styled in a way that appeals globally. I hope to contribute to a broader global recognition of Middle Eastern fashion as a vital and evolving voice in the fashion conversation. What were some of the earliest challenges you faced as a founder, and how did those moments shape the way you lead today? My brand grew at a faster rate than I had expected. As a founder, when you are building something, you wear multiple hats. From the design process, the business details, production, and managing a team, you do it all. To find the balance in it all, I take things one day at a time. I feel like there is no rush, and I like taking my time in building this brand. What’s next for Sanah Yasin? Are there any new destinations, collaborations, or categories you’re dreaming of exploring? This year,

“I wanted to create a label that people could take back as a memory of their time visiting the city.”

I started selling my kaftans in a store in Miami design district, called KABE. There are also a few other cities I’m in talks with at the moment about introducing my label. In August, I will have my products in Monaco as part of the Le Closet global pop-up. This is The Summer Escape Issue - what does a perfect summer escape look like for

you personally, and what are you wearing from your line when you get there? A perfect summer escape for me would be slowing down and reconnecting with nature, with creativity, and with myself. Think you’re wearing a silk kaftan in a breezy, sun-drenched villa in the Mediterranean or a tucked-away beach somewhere in the world. There’s time to read, swim, nap in a hammock, and eat simple food as you walk around in flats exploring the city. The kaftan would be all you need to make a simple and elegant statement. Elevated pieces that feel good against sun-kissed skin.

SVELTE SUMMER

Siffat Haider, founder of Arrae, on supplementing your way through summer for the best body to feel your most confident self

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like? Upon waking, the first thing I’ll do is step outside to move my body and get sunlight in my eyes. Studies show that just 5-15 minutes of morning sunlight helps regulate circadian rhythm, boosts serotonin, and provides beneficial levels of Vitamin D. I’ll take a quick walk through my neighborhood and love to sip on our latest product launch, Clear Protein+, as I move. It’s the easiest way to hydrate and nourish my body with essential electrolytes and 15g of complete protein.

After getting home from my morning walk, I head to the kitchen to make my coffee. This is one of my most sacred rituals and something I look forward to daily. I used to drink my coffee first thing in the morning, but starting my day with proper hydration and protein has changed everything. Not only does protein support better focus, but it counteracts blood sugar spikes when drinking coffee on an empty stomach. From there, I’ll take my coffee into the living room and sit down to write a journal. I have committed to a daily journalling practice for the last decade, and it has truly changed my life. Sometimes I will script something I’m manifesting, write a gratitude list, or process any lingering thoughts or emotions to clear my head before starting the workday.

What was the catalyst to launching Arrae and how do you and Nish work together – who leads what? I struggled with pervasive health issues throughout my 20s and turned to natural remedies as a last resort. That’s when I uncovered the power of herbs, minerals, and vitamins in providing quick, lasting relief that targets the root cause of the issue. The trouble was that I couldn’t find any supplements that were both efficacious and beautiful.

My husband Nish and I started Arrae in 2020 with a vision of bridging this gap, creating supplements that look as wonderful as they make you feel. We play to our strengths when it comes to running the company. Nish’s expertise is in business development and project man-

agement, while my skill set lies in trend forecasting and branding. Our technical and creative personality types complement each other perfectly. As a start-up, we work across all departments and truly have our hands on everything from product development to retail. But none of it would be possible without growing our incredible team. Every single person is so hardworking, smart, kind, and in their zone of genius within their respective roles. We love our team! Can you expand on why your product Bloat works so well? How many iterations of Bloat did you go through before you landed on the final result? Before even starting Arrae, I noticed that nearly every conversation I had with my friends had a mention of bloating. Whether it was a brunch or dinner setting, it was clearly an issue that the majority of my circle were struggling with. After dealing with my own digestive distress nearly every time I went out to eat, we decided it was time to formulate a natural, targeted solution for quick relief. Our goal was to develop the best formula that worked as fast as possible. We went through several iterations, but I’ll never forget landing on our final one. It was 2019 and Nish and I had gone out for Italian food. The pasta was wreaking havoc in my system, and by the time we got home, I was doubled over in so much pain. I took our Bloat formula and in just 20 minutes, I felt complete relief. My stomach didn’t hurt anymore and was flat again. I just remember feeling like this product was going to change so many people’s lives.

Our Bloat formula uses 6 organic, science-backed ingredients to provide relief from digestive discomfort in under an hour. Bromelain is one of these ingredients, a digestive enzyme that comes from pineapple. It supports nutrient absorption, breaks down hard-to-digest foods, and prevents bloating before it even starts. Bloat also contains dandelion root to flush out toxins, while ginger root and peppermint soothe the gut and prevent inflammation and puffiness. It’s a holistic formula that works fast and provides complete support for your gut.

The ingredients are all natural, was this a key goal from the outset? Yes, definitely. With every product we develop, we always focus on sourcing the highest-quality, most impactful ingredients that serve your body.

What are the pillars of Arrae, the values that align with who you are building the brand for? Arrae is built for the modern woman who wants to seamlessly integrate wellness into her busy lifestyle. We keep it clean, simple, and chic – from our targeted formulations to our beautiful packaging. Integrity and efficacy are at the heart of everything we do.

Tell us about your latest launch Clear Protein+ and why you wanted to bring this to market? We never wanted to make another protein powder. But as Nish and I started to prioritise a high-protein diet (and felt the benefits of more strength, energy, and focus), we realised that we could fill a gap by creating an easy to use, mess-free product that enhanced people’s lives. Consistently hitting your protein goals takes a lot of time and effort. And when you’re in back-to-back meetings, squeezing in a workout, or trying to relax on the weekend, the last thing you want to deal with is the planning, the prepping, or the blending. We wanted a protein that kept up with our busy lifestyle – ready to toss in a tote bag, sip between meetings, and keep us fuelled on the go. That’s why we created Clear Protein+: our innovative blend of hydrolysed whey, electrolytes, and grass-fed collagen.

How is this offering different to what’s on the market and why is it easy to support your protein goals on the go? So many protein supplements require a blender, shaker bottle, and lengthy preparation process. Even more contain filler ingredients, sugar, and artificial flavoring. We designed Clear Protein+ to address both of these pain points. Unlike other protein shakes or powders, it dissolves in cold water (no blenders or shaking required) and delivers total body hydration, strength, recovery, and glow. This feel-good fuel contains 0g of sugar and contains 15g of protein from grass-fed whey and collagen in every serving. And the best part is that it also contains electrolytes so you’re hydrating while getting your protein in. Ready in under 30 seconds, our travel-ready stick packs make it easier than ever to hit your protein and hydration goals. It’s a protein ritual that fits your lifestyle – from post-Pilates to long meetings at the office and everywhere in between. What’s your top tip for staying consistent with wellness during summer chaos? I’m all for small, consistent habits you can maintain throughout the season. These are a few of my non-negotiable habits for your hottest summer yet: Having a set bedtime – even if I’m travelling, I regulate my sleep schedule by doing my best to fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. I have a hard 10 pm phone boundary where I turn everything off and spend time reading to unwind before hitting lights out. Taking Magnesium before bed – I take 2-3 of our Arrae Magnesium capsules, which promotes relaxation and deeper sleep. 10-12k steps daily, I like to soak up the warmer weather by going for a post-dinner walk. It’s the best hack for better digestion and an instant mood booster! Activity dates with friends – schedule walks or a fun workout class with your friends to catch up, while getting your steps in. Healthy habits become so much more rewarding in good company. How do you approach scaling without compromising on quality? People are often shocked when we say that we have a team of 30+. For a company our size, that number is often much larger. We’re very strategic with our hiring process, which has helped us scale sustainably. Everyone on our team offers a developed skill set and expertise within at least one area of the company, along with the enthusiasm, humility, and attitude necessary to thrive. When you’re just starting out, general hires who can work across multiple disciplines are the key to success. But as you grow, you need the best of the best to support the company in very specific ways. In the social media landscape, what works, what doesn't and how do you approach testing different platforms? What works is authenticity paired with strategy. I’ve found that people can always tell when something is performative versus when it’s genuinely aligned. Whether I’m posting on my personal account or through Arrae’s account, the content that resonates most is rooted in storytelling, value, and emotion.

For example, my most viral videos have come from showing behind-the-scenes moments, wellness/glow-up checklists, or sharing the

honest in-between of building something. On Arrae’s side, we’ve leaned into educational wellness content while showcasing the personality of the brand. We try to run the Arrae account like we’d run a person’s account, not a brand account. Because I think it’s what makes the brand more personable. When it comes to testing platforms, I treat it like R&D. I pay attention to how content naturally performs, then go deeper into the formats that are gaining traction.

Ultimately, we’re always testing – but we filter everything through brand voice, community relevance, and whether the platform gives us room to tell a story that matters.

Which product drives sales M-O-M and which platform in social works best for your audience? MB-1 is our all-natural “faux-zempic” designed to optimise your metabolic health from the inside out. Formulated to target metabolic dysfunction at the root, the ingredients in MB-1 curb cravings, help your body burn more calories at rest, and eliminate fatigue. It’s been an instant bestseller ever since we launched.

We just rang in our first-ever TikTok Super Brand Day, which was such a big moment for the brand. We also host an incredible TikTok Creator program, where we work with so many people who love Arrae. Their genuine enthusiasm and real results have transferred into resonant content that’s helped us build trust and strategically use the platform to drive growth.

How does having a podcast support driving the brand’s positioning? I started The Dream Bigger Podcast in 2019 with the intention of empowering women through real, insightful conversations. Whether it be manifestation, the science behind strength training, or what it takes to build a legacy brand, each episode is designed to give listeners the tools they need to thrive.

I often interview experts in the wellness industry, which helps me stay ahead of the curve in terms of trend forecasting. We’ve even collaborated with past guests over the years. For example, we launched our limited-edition Le Depuff drops with Lauryn Bosstick of The Skinny Confidential back in 2023. From a consumer perspective, I think it’s refreshing to see a founder who’s living the lifestyle they’re selling. I take Arrae daily, and wellness is such a huge part of my life outside of work. I’m always curious about morning routines, science-backed skincare, and the latest research. Plus, I love sharing these conversations with listeners. This is our The Summer Escape issue – where are you heading to this Summer? We just celebrated the launch of Clear Protein+ with our Arrae Beach Club event at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, which was incredible! We hosted an intimate influencer brunch, exclusive night party, and even had our own branded seaplane. I’m beyond excited to head to Ibiza, St. Tropez and Mykonos this summer too.

AM TO PM BEAUTY

Dubai-based fashion entrepreneur

Rahil Hesan shares her morning to evening beauty routine

Talk us through your morning routine. My mornings begin with intention and calmness. I wake up for a morning prayer, after my prayer, I do yoga and start with deep breathing to ground myself. I drink warm water with lemon to hydrate and detox. Then I go into my skincare ritual – gentle cleanser, a vitamin C serum, a cooling jade roller, and of course SPF. I keep my makeup minimal for the day: tinted moisturiser, brow gel, a bit of blush, and lip balm. Then I get dressed into something that makes me feel empowered – often, in one of my own designs.

How does your evening routine differ? Evenings are more about winding down and repair. I double cleanse to remove every trace of the day, follow with a retinol serum or a nourishing oil, and sometimes a mask depending on my skin’s needs. I light a candle, journal for a few minutes, and disconnect from screens at least 30 minutes before bed. It’s my time to slow down and reflect. What are your go-to skincare products? I’m loyal to products that blend science and nature. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum is my holy grail. I also love Tatcha’s Dewy

Skin Cream and La Mer’s Eye Concentrate. For cleansing, I alternate between Elemis and Tata Harper depending on my skin’s mood. Are you a fan of masks? Absolutely. I consider them my skin’s little reset button. I use a clarifying clay mask once a week, and on days when I need hydration or glow, I opt for a sheet mask infused with collagen or rose essence. How would you describe your approach to makeup? Refined, feminine, and clean. I love enhancing natural features with a dewy finish, defined brows, soft matte lips, and flushed cheeks. I use makeup as an exten-

sion of my mood, some days I’m a soft rose, and others, a power red.

What can always be found in your makeup bag? A tinted lip balm in a dusty rose shade, a travel-sized highlighter, a brow brush, and a skin mist with neroli water. Also – a small handwritten quote I carry for strength. Beauty comes from within, and I like to be reminded of that.

Which fragrances are your current favourites?

Fragrance is my invisible armour. I’m deeply drawn to Bouquet from YSL, it’s opulent yet poetic. On lighter days, I wear Chanel

Chance, and for evenings, Bvlgari-Le Gemme Yasep and Tom Ford Fabulous. They each tell a different story – just like every woman does. Talk us through your hair routine. I treat my hair like fabric – delicate, luxurious, and worthy of care. I cleanse with sulfate-free products, use a rosemary and mint scalp treatment weekly, and massage in argon oil to maintain shine. Most days, I wear it in soft waves or a polished low bun – timeless and elegant. What is the most unusual item in your makeup bag? A small rose quartz gua sha. it’s both functional and symbolic. It de-puffs,

sculpts, and reminds me to breathe. Beauty isn’t just about how you look, it’s about how you feel in your own skin.

This is The Summer Escape Issue – where are you travelling to this summer and what’s in your beauty kit? This summer, I’m escaping to the Italian coast. Positano and Capri, a dreamy contrast of sun, salt, and slow living. My beauty kit is tailored: mineral SPF, aloe-infused mist, tinted moisturiser, silk scrunchies, waterproof mascara, and a coral lip stain. Also, always a signature scent that lingers in the air like a memory.

NO MOUNTAIN TOO HIGH

The first Saudi Arabian woman to summit Everest, Raha Moharrak on how she prepares for climbing peaks, overcoming fear and the biggest lessons she’s learned from her adventures

WORDS: AMINATH IFASA

What do the first 30 minutes of your morning look like? It’s a thrilling mix of trying to convince myself I’m a morning person and chasing after my two German Shepherds, Thunder and Petra, followed by plotting my next adventure before my brain fully wakes up – whether said adventure requires a book or boots. It’s chaos, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. What was your drive to climb Everest? Honestly? It started with a stubborn itch to prove that an Arab woman can do anything she sets her heart (and hiking boots) on. Then it snowballed into something bigger: rewriting the narrative of what’s possible for women like me.

As the youngest Arab and first Saudi Arabian woman to summit Everest, how did you handle doubters? With a grin, grit, and GPS set to “prove them wrong.” Doubt makes the summit sweeter; every “you can’t” was fuel in my backpack. What’s the biggest challenge of climbing at high altitude? Breathing becomes a luxury. At those altitudes, your body throws tantrums and your brain turns into mashed potatoes. But you push through, because the view from the top doesn’t come easy.

You’ve summited Kilimanjaro, Denali, and Elbrus – which mountain tested you most, and why? Denali, hands down. It pushed me the hardest – brutal cold, heavy gear, and isolation that messes with your mind. It’s not just a mountain; it’s a full-on survival exam. What did it feel like when you reached Everest's summit? It was surreal, like standing on the roof of the world with the weight of every “no” finally lifted. I felt small, powerful, and deeply grateful all at once.

How do you prepare your body and mind for extreme altitudes? Training like a beast and meditating like a monk. It’s squats and silence, lunges and letting go. You prep the body, yes, but mental strength is what carries you to the top when your legs are begging you to stop. Where does your sense of adventure come from? Somewhere between Saudi sand dunes and storybooks. I grew up dreaming of worlds beyond mine, then decided to chase them in hiking boots. How do you unwind? Give me a sunset, a beach, good music, genuine people, and my fur babies snoring at my feet. Add some pistachio gelato, and you’ve got the perfect recovery plan. What’s the one lesson from your climbs that has changed how you approach life’s challenges? The mountain doesn’t care who you are, but it rewards those who respect the journey. Life, like climbing, is all about showing up, step after step, even when the summit’s hidden in the clouds.

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self before that first big climb, what would it be? “Your doubts are loud now, but one day they’ll be the quietest thing on that summit.” Also: pack more socks.

This is The Summer Escape Issue – where are you heading to this summer? I’m trading crampons for coastline; Sardinia’s calling – sun, sea, and just enough adventure to keep my wanderlust on a leash (barely).

THE TRAVEL ALGORITHM

Joana Jamil, Strategic Partner Manager, Global Partnerships - META, on how the algorithm changes when you travel

Talk us through your background. I was born to Syrian parents and spent my childhood between Aleppo and Moscow in Russia. This unique upbringing gave me a deep appreciation for Middle Eastern culture and exposed me to European influences. As I grew older, I moved to Dubai, where I’ve been living for over a decade. The city’s diverse cultural landscape has added to my background, shaping who I am today.

Does Instagram/Facebook actually know when you’re travelling?

How does the algorithm detect location changes? Yes, Instagram and Facebook can detect when you’re travelling. They use various signals such as IP addresses, location tags, and check-ins to infer your location. This information helps them tailor content and ads to your current location.

“Local trends and regional hashtags can influence what shows up on a travelling user’s feed”

When a user travels, how does their feed and explore page begin to shift? Is it purely locationdriven or are there other signals involved? When a user travels, their feed and explore page on platforms like Instagram and Facebook begin to shift based on a combination of location-driven data and other signals. The platform uses geolocation, location tags, and check-ins to determine the user’s current location. Additionally, it analyses user behaviour, browsing history, and search queries to understand preferences and interests. As the user interacts with the platform, the feed and explore page are updated in real time to display content that is relevant to their location and interests. The platform continuously learns from user behaviour to enhance personalisation, making the content more engaging and relevant.

How much do local trends or regional hashtags influence what shows up on a travelling user’s feed?Local trends and regional hashtags can influence what shows up on a travelling user’s feed, but they’re not the only factors at play. When I’m travelling, I might see content from local influencers or businesses that are popular in that region, especially if I’ve interacted with similar content before. I’d say that local

trends and regional hashtags can account for around 20-30 percent of the content I see on my feed when I’m travelling. However, other factors like my user behaviour, interests, and interactions also play a big role in determining what appears on my feed. It’s all about finding that balance between showing me content that’s relevant to my location and interests, while also keeping my feed fresh and engaging. From your personal experience at META, what’s one travel destination where you noticed your own feed completely change in a way that surprised you? From my personal experience at META, I haven’t noticed any dramatic changes in my feed when travelling. My feed consistently reflects my interests, but it does adapt based on my searches and interactions, especially when it comes to food and restaurants. As a big foodie, I love exploring new places to eat in the countries I visit, and my feed often highlights local culinary spots that align with my interests.

What role does search behaviour while travelling play? Search behaviour while travelling plays a significant role in shaping the feed. For example, when you search for local restaurants, attractions, or activities, your feed adapts to show you more relevant content from those places, helping you discover new experiences and making travels even more enjoyable.

When a user travels, how does their feed and explore page begin to shift? Is it purely location-driven or are there other signals involved? When a user travels, their feed and explore page begin to shift based on a combination of location-driven signals and other factors. While location plays a role, it’s not the only factor –interactions, searches, and interests also influence what you see on your feed and explore page.

This is The Summer Escape Issue – where do you plan on travelling to this Summer? I’m looking forward to escaping to the South of France, my all-time favorite destination, with my loved ones this summer. It’s a chance to unwind and recharge before the September rush.

“While location plays a role, it’s not the only factor –interactions, searches, and interests also influence what you see on your feed and explore page”

The Wanderlust

WORDS: AMY SESSIONS

Portofino’s most storied hideaway, Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, makes its much-anticipated grand reopening

Entering a new era of splendour following an extraordinary renovation by internationally renowned Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS). The 16th century Benedictine monastery turned glamorous sanctuary reveals a magnificent reimagination that takes the hotel to new heights. Paying tribute to the building’s heritage and reviving the spirit of La Dolce Vita, the hotel showcases the finest Ligurian craftsmanship with a contemporary twist – reaffirming Splendido’s status as the legendary grand dame of the Italian Riviera. This summer, alongside the beautifully redesigned rooms, suites, pool, and restaurants, Splendido introduces a vibrant new bar, Baratta Sedici, that captures the glamorous spirit of Portofino, as well as the first permanent Dior Spa in Italy. Also debuting this summer is Villa Beatrice, a one-of-a-kind, majestic private summer residence overlooking the sea, further strengthening its legacy in Portofino’s enchanting enclave.

THE STAY

Throughout the newly redesigned rooms and suites, the spirit of Italian elegance, craftsmanship and comfort go hand in hand. Refined interiors and ornate design touches draw on the region’s rich design traditions and elevate each room to a serene and sumptuous retreat. Traditional Midollino Weave, inspired by the Chiavari rattan tradition, lends a tactile warmth to headboards and bedside tables, while Albissola ceramics punctuate

the rooms with a handcrafted, time-honoured elegance. Furnishings sourced from local estate sales and auction houses tell a story of heritage, with some pieces delicately restored and painted in the Genoese style.

THE DINING

At the heart of this new chapter lies Baratta Sedici. A destination in its own right, the new bar will become Splendido’s new vibrant social epicentre. Here, a refined expression of Ligurian tradition, craftsmanship and nature come together to create an elegant yet characterful space. Whitewashed walls provide a fresh canvas for an intricate, handpainted botanical mural, where delicate vines and cascading plants bring the outdoors in, taking inspiration from Splendido’s lush

surrounding gardens. A palette of warm terracotta, rich greens and blond oak lend depth and warmth, complementing the back-lit white onyx bar. It’s the perfect place to meet pre dinner before enjoying a breathtaking view from Splendido’s fine dining restaurant, La Terrazza. We suggest diving into the classic Ligurian seafood or allowing chef Corrado Corti to recommend some of his signature dishes for an unforgettable experience.

THE WELLNESS

Enriching the hotel’s wellness offering, Splendido proudly unveils Italy’s first permanent Dior Spa – an exclusive collaboration between two icons of elegance. Set against the verdant backdrop of the Portofino Natural Park, the spa invites guests

to embrace holistic rejuvenation inspired by the rhythms and beauty of the Ligurian coastline. Situated on the second floor of the hotel, the indoor-outdoor sanctuary offers a nature-inspired wellness experience with four treatment cabins and a dedicated relaxation space on a quiet roof terrace. The Dior Spa Splendido offers a menu of transformative treatments, each thoughtfully tailored to the surroundings and imbued with the spirit of Riviera serenity. This new chapter in wellbeing expands on the Jardin des Rêves, an al fresco treatment space nestled within the hotel’s beautiful gardens.

Completing the holistic wellbeing experiences is Splendido’s cinematic saltwater swimming pool, reimagined by celebrated Italian landscape designer Marco Bay.

THE ART OF SUMMER

Discover this ode to Passalacqua, an idyllic Italian estate surrounded by manicured gardens overlooking Lake Como, by Assouline created closely with the owners Paolo, Antonella, and Valentina De Santis. The book is a transportative experience through dreamy images captured by French-Italian photographer Daria Reina with reflections from Emilia Wickstead, J.J. Martin, and more.
