THE MOGUL
Alexander Orlov, Restaurateur and Co-founder of Bulldozer Group talks to us about taking a business global and striving for success in the F&B industry
WORDS: DAN ROBINSON
20 emiratesman.ae COVER STORY
What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? If I don’t have any travel plans which I often do, my morning starts with breakfast, jogging and cycling. After that I begin to work, often on my phone as I am on the go, I receive daily reports and analyze that data.
Can you talk us through your career? I was always self-employed, so I didn’t have a ca reer in a classical sense with vertical growth.
I have been involved in business since I was 18; I opened my first restaurant at the age of 27 and gradually, for 20 years, I’ve been ex panding my business in terms of the number of restaurants as well as the different loca tions. I now have over 50 restaurants in over six countries and there will be new openings across more cities in 2023 and 2024.
Your career as a restaurateur spans 20 years in multiple regions, what does it take to succeed in having a long-standing career in an ever-changing industry? There are a few important elements of success in every business:
∙ There must be a certain level of business acumen, which of course can only be ac quired from years of experience, but one can actively learn to think and act like a busi nessman or businesswoman.
∙ The need for self-improvement and devel opment, and ultimately, success.
∙ Being flexible in terms of work and trying to find more efficient methods of working.
∙ One needs to be able to stay calm even if a mistake is made. You need to pay attention to these mistakes, because you will make them, and then lessons learned ultimately drive you forward to success.
What first inspired you to re-locate to this re gion? It happened about 10 years ago when the UAE started to flourish and grow at an
incredible pace. I realized then that it had great potential for prospective businesses due to the support for entrepreneurs and in credible leadership. It’s important to high light here that the growth and development of the region is still ongoing now, and into the foreseeable future.
What inspired you to launch the Bulldozer Group and how did you know it was the right time? I was inspired to call the company Bull dozer Group, because it’s an international word and everyone understands it in any language; it reflects the nature of our hold ing and sounds quite convincing. A bulldozer is a machine that moves forward despite any hindrances. That’s what our company does.
You have a large global portfolio of restau rants, what sets the UAE F&B scene apart from anywhere else in the world? First, our guests in this region are very particular about the service and quality of everything.
The UAE is famous for its high level of ser vices, cuisine, design. There’s also tough competition in the market: the strong glob al brands set the benchmark. As a result, we are very diligent about any mistakes made; our guests and clients would certainly no tice any flaws or loose ends, and that’s why we hold ourselves accountable.
You’re responsible for large teams, how do you keep your teams inspired and motivated?
I believe our teams take some inspiration from my experience, I’m always aware of the trends in the market, the status of all proj ects, and make sure to stay on top of it all and make sure to update our teams. I also travel a lot, share new ideas, inspiration, and concepts with my teams. Finally, I try to give our team opportunities to grow, ask them to join on trips that can unleash their creativity and inspire them to come up with new ideas.
What would you say is the key to success when it comes to building and maintaining a successful business? There are so many factors to consider: intuition, timing, luck, being at the right place at the right time, which of course is more likely to happen with consistency and trial and error. All puzzle pieces that come together eventually. What are the hurdles you’ve experienced throughout your career and how did you overcome them? To be transparent, there are always a lot of obstacles in business; however, the main obstacle is finding the right talent. We need highly driven and pas sionate individuals, we try to approach the best profiles, offer training, and eventually hone their skills and careers.
How do you find the balance between busi ness and personal life? My business is my passion, and therefore my hobby as well. Of course, I can’t expect the people close to me to operate around my schedule, so I make sure to manage my time so that I have a space to spend time with them.
What piece of advice would you give to someone starting out and building their own business? My main advice would be to take a risk. Don’t be afraid to take risks.
What are the next plans for growth and how do you maintain quality when scaling? We have a great number of projects in Dubai, both on going and future ones. In 2023 we are plan ning to open a few more restaurants, so it’s all about the talent again. We are looking for people who can multitask and take respon sibility. One of the key difficulties in an ac tively growing business is the team. I’ve been there so many times, and now what we do is write down the strategy, expand and correct the current structure which will be applicable and functional for business of a greater scale.

WORDS: AMY SESSIONS
impart knowledge? My role has never changed. I have a blind and unlimited trust in my daughter by remaining watchful by her side. I pass on my knowledge by re maining a permanent guide.
How do you balance the creative and com mercial sides of the business, and do you feel more drawn to one than the other? Creation and commercial sides must remain closely linked to each other; they are complemen tary. I have always been attracted to both. For me, one does not go without the other. How did your career support the launch of Messika? My career has created in Valé rie an attraction and a need to affirm and confirm her creativity to bring my dia monds to light.
What have been the biggest challenges to date and how did you overcome them? To remain faithful to this passion, without ever turning away from it.
What is your approach to leadership and how do you ensure these values filter down through the company? Leadership means responsibilities to your company and to all women and men who observe you and be lieve in you. They are the ones who lead the company to success.
How do you approach scaling without compromising on quality? By ensuring that we are surrounded by people who are aware of your expectations and responsible by leaving them the time needed to achieve the objectives.
What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like/your morning routine? Usually, I prepare my coffee and a glass of water. I enjoy it while contemplating the trees in my garden. I check my messages and then
I go to the gym.
What is the core DNA of success for you to date? Through words, I would say: Love, passion, sharing and transmission.
Tell us how your role in the brand has evolved since it launched and how you
Have you had any mentors along the way and if so, what knowledge did they impart? Unfortunately, I didn’t. Nevertheless, on another hand, I have admired inspiring women and men.
What advice would you give to your younger self? Never stop dreaming. Do everything you can to make your dreams come true. One piece of advice when dealing with people in business? Treat them the way you would like to be treated. Always think about their interests in dealing with you.

The Football Legend
WORDS: DAN ROBINSON
How did you initially get into the sport, was being a professional footballer always something you wanted to do? My father was a professional footballer, so you could say I was born into football. I have two older brothers that love playing the game. As far as I can remember, I have wanted to play football from a young age. I joined my first team at the age of seven years old. If you were still playing professional football, who would be your dream team of choice and why? I was fortunate to play for some of the best teams in my career, the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, and Real Madrid. Liverpool is the team I always dreamed of playing for as a child, and to this day, it’s still the same. The current Liver pool team is exceptionally talented and be ing part of the team that won many trophies and leagues is a great feeling.
You scored some of the most famous goals of our time. Which is your most memorable moment on the pitch and why? I feel very fortunate to have moments in my career where people remember where they were when I scored a goal or victory. It’s hard to pick one, but a particular moment was scor ing in the World Cup 1998 against Argentina at the age of 18. It was a massive achieve ment at the time and catapulted me into the mind of football fans worldwide. Another moment was scoring two goals in the FA Cup finals against Arsenal, a day I will never forget. Scoring a hat trick against Germany, too was a moment against arch-rivals. Will you attend or watch any live FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 games and participate in any activities? Yes. I will attend some of the finals in Qatar itself, doing television and commercial work and obviously watching a few games.
You have played for some of the greatest teams of our time. Is there a particular team you enjoyed playing the most in your career? Joining Real Madrid and playing with ex
cellent individual players was a fantastic experience. Still, if I had to pick one team, it would be Liverpool – because I support ed and was desperate to play for the team growing up, and all my best years of speed was taken by injury towards the end of my career, and I was in absolute peak in my Liverpool years.
You're keeping busy in your retirement as a racehorse breeder and sports commentator. Are there any other exciting projects in the works? I retired from professional football at 33 and started a new life. Working in the television field has been very exciting and an eye-opener. I enjoyed the challenge. Growing my successful horse racing business which has been going on for the last 18 years, it’s a huge passion that I have invested a lot of time and attention too. I also have four chil dren who have kept me busy over the years. What advice can you give to the next genera tion looking to pursue a career in football? To reach the top of the profession or succeed in football, many attributes are required: Born with outstanding balance, speed, en durance, and robustness. Also, the right attitude, mentality, dedication, diet, and nutrition are essential for success.
Who do you think of the current young football stars has the potential to be the next Michael Owen on the pitch? Watching all the new talent come through is the exciting part of football. Who could be the next superstar on the pitch? There are a lot of potentially good players at the moment in football. The player I’m most excited about is Phil Foden, who plays for Manchester City and England. He is an exceptional talent with a lot of speed, awareness, and a total football mind who has the potential to reach the highest level. What advice would you give to your younger self? It isn’t easy to look back with hind sight. A lot of people have regrets from their younger years. My biggest strength was my mentality and maturity at a young age. I
look back, and I’m thankful for the deci sions I made early on in my career and how I made it to be a professional footballer. If I had a crystal ball, I would love to do more work on preventative training to avoid football-related injuries. That’s the only big what-if in my career. If I had been able to stay free from injury, that would have en sured I could have kept the standard of play that I showed from the age of 17 – 24. If I had kept that stamina, I would be looking back now with more trophies in the cabinet. You're regarded as one of our time's most significant Premier League strikers. Did you ever feel pressure to live up to this during your

glory days? To be honest, I rarely felt pres sure. Football is like any other job. You must be dedicated to being the best at something and working hard. Everyone has to deal with pressure, and a footballer is under no more pressure in my mind than the next person who is working in an office, for example. Your performance at the 1998 FIFA World Cup brought you international fame, and people still talk about this moment in football history. How did your life change after that tournament? It’s fair to say my life did change after that goal against Argentina following that tourna ment. I just came off the season from Liver pool’s first Premier League, which catapulted
me to worldwide stardom. It was strange get ting used to life with photographers following me and people/press interested in my private life. There was a lot of learning on the job, I enjoyed the football side of it, but the press was quite intrusive. Understandably this was part of the job; I just had to learn how to nav igate it for the best.
Have/did you have any role models or men tors along the way that helped shape your path? I had numerous role models, particu larly Gary Lineker, when I was growing up –the 1990 World Cup was excellent. It was the first time I understood huge football tourna ments and being able to support a team. My
family gave me an excellent grounding of re spect and manners. They helped me to grow as an individual. I feel very fortunate to have parents who supported me in this way. You’re in Dubai for a fan evening with Gary Neville, do you spend a lot of time in the Middle East? I do spend a lot of time in the Middle East. Since the late ‘90s, my family and I have frequently vacationed in Dubai. In that time, we’ve had four children, the Middle East is one of our favourite desti nations. I’ve also visited Qatar and Oman in previous years. I have some of my horses racing in Bahrain, so I will be visiting more of the Middle East later this year.

Lando Norris started karting at the age of seven. Now, at 22, the breakout star is set to race his fourth season with McLaren Racing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Here, Norris discusses what it takes to win on and off the track
tria in 2020, and I was trying to catch Lewis [Hamilton]; I needed to make up 1.5 seconds at the end of the race – at the time I didn’t know if it would be possible. I managed to make up 1.8 seconds in one and a half laps. It was pretty awesome, and I was super happy – it was great to celebrate with the team too.
How do you maintain a routine and fitness when travelling for the season? It’s really important to stay fit during the F1 season, especially for really intense races like Singa pore. My fitness routine includes cardio and weights and I make sure to eat as healthily as I can too. Neck training is really important as well, look at Silverstone for example. It is incredibly tough on your neck – so it’s important to be as fit as you can so you can perform at your best.
Have you had any mentor or role models along the way that has helped shaped your path? Valentino Rossi is a role model of mine – back in 2019 I raced with a tribute helmet to him. He got me into racing, and I remember watching him when I was what, four, five, six years old. He’s been the guy that I’ve looked up to, the guy that has kind of helped me get to this position where I am today.
WORDS: DAN ROBINSON
What is the first thing you do the morning of a race, the first 30 minutes of your day? I like to listen to some music when I first wake up. I then have a shower and get dressed. I like to lie in as much as possible, so I usually get up right before I need to leave the house.
How did you get into racing? Is this something that has al ways been part of you? My dad took me to watch a race at a local karting track when I was six years old, and I wanted to have a go. I loved it, and continued from there. I rose through the ranks in karting, before moving up to F4 in 2015. From there, I competed in Formula Renault 2.0, F3 and F2, before entering F1 in 2019. So, it’s been something I’ve been involved with for nearly my whole life – so I sup pose it’s nearly always been part of me!
You finished on the podium in Italy this year. What sort of preparation and effort did it take to get that result? The po dium was the result of a lot of hard work by the whole team, but we prepare for every race the same. That includes sim ulator work, reviewing past races and lots of data analysis. In F1, preparation is key, so we make sure we go into every single race with as much information as possible.
How do you maintain clarity and motivation on and off the racetrack? Like every F1 driver, I’m a competitive person, I want to do the very best I can every weekend, so that’s great motivation. It’s no secret we weren’t where we want ed to be at the beginning of the season, but the whole team has stayed motivated and worked really hard to improve our performance on track. There’s a lot of ups and downs in F1 but I love what I do and I’m a competitive person, so it’s not hard to stay motivated to do my best.
This is your fourth full season in Formula 1 with McLaren. What has been your most significant memory so far? My first podium was a really special moment. It was at Aus
Is there anywhere you particularly like visiting on the For mula 1 circuit? Silverstone for sure. It’s my home race and the fans there are awesome. It’s always really special racing there and the home crowd gives me a boost. You can always see a lot of papaya in the grandstands and the atmosphere is brilliant. The track itself is great but it’s the fans that make coming home special.
After recent brilliant seasons, you have been mentioned as one of the most exciting young talents in F1. Do you feel the pressure to live up to this title? I don’t feel the pressure, it’s not something I focus on or think about. I don’t think about those sorts of things, I just focus on driving. You can’t always pay attention to everything in the media and let it distract you. I focus on my performance and work hard with the team to do the best I can do.
We’re down to the final few races of the season. Abu Dhabi will be the grand finale and then F1 will return to Saudi too next year. What’s your view on the caliber of the circuits within the Middle East? They’re some of the fastest and most exciting circuits on the F1 calendar. Abu Dhabi is a fantastic place to end the season and I enjoy racing there as the grand finale to the season. There’s always a great atmosphere and it’s awesome having so many supportive fans to come and watch us race.
What’s the best piece of advice you have been given? Drive fast [laughs].
You recently revealed on Instagram you have a keen interest in DJ-ing. Will we see you DJ-ing at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? Probably not [laughs]. I’m not very good yet, it’s just something I’m passionate about and enjoy doing in my spare time. It’s a great passion to have on the go, especially when you’re travelling all the time.

In the Fast Lane
At the age of 26, Alex Albon has quickly risen through the ranks racing up to the coveted Formula 1 format. We talk to Albon, Williams Driver and Bremont watch ambassador, on what it takes to win on and off the track
WORDS: DAN ROBINSON
What is the first thing you do the morning of a race? Generally, wake up! I don’t get too caught up in the moment. I grab my phone, check my messages, and see what’s happening. I treat it like any other day. I’ll get ready and see how long I’ve got until my trainer starts wondering why I’m late down stairs in the hotel lobby!
How did you first get into racing? Like most drivers, I got into it through my family’s passion. My Dad was a racing driver; he took me karting when I was a toddler, and the rest is his tory. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else other than rac ing. Growing up, I was obsessed with Valentino Rossi and also Michael Schumacher. Rossi carried the number 46, and so I halved it and carried the number 23 from my kart ing days right through up to today in Formula 1.
You’re the first Thai driver with a Podium finish. What sort of mindset, preparation and effort did it take to get that result?
Many years of self-belief, discipline, and never giving up. You’ll always get knockbacks and hard times, but if you want something enough, you won’t stop until you get it.
Getting to Formula 1 was a lifelong goal. Staying there is another. But scoring your first podium? That’s something you won’t forget.
How do you maintain clarity and motivation on and off the racetrack? If you want something enough, being motivated for it ought to come easy. Clarity, or keeping focused, is per haps the more interesting point as the higher up you go, the more distractions and commitments come your way, and it’s easy for that ‘noise’ to get in the way of performance. You have to keep your head in the game and stay focused on the job at hand, which is performing, and everything secondary is secondary. Remembering that is the important thing. This is your third season in Formula 1. What has been your most significant memory so far? It’s difficult to nail down one in particular. Reaching Formula 1 was significant, then being
promoted halfway through my debut season to a major team like Red Bull Racing and then scoring my first podium. These are all important moments. I don’t have one in particular. How do you maintain a routine and fitness when travelling for the season? This is a carefully planned programme between my trainer and me. We load up with training sessions in the off-season, and then during the season, it’s about main taining it. Racing every other week keeps you fit, and where we have some weeks off, we’ll be doing a variety of stuff in the gym and outdoors too.
You’re featured on the Netflix show Formula 1: Drive to Survive and have gained a legion of fans since. Have you watched any episodes or follow the media of the show? No, definitely not! I wouldn’t say I like seeing myself on TV. I don’t think anyone does. With the popularity of Drive to Survive, Netflix has done amazing things for our sport, but I’m more interested in what’s going on track rather than off. Is there anywhere you particularly like visiting on the Formula 1 circuit? Suzuka is one of my favourite tracks. It’s a highspeed and proper driver’s circuit. It’s in Japan, and the fans there are passionate and knowledgeable. I love Singapore, too, as it’s essentially a home race for me being so close to Thailand. I get a lot of home support there which definitely doesn’t go unnoticed.
You have been mentioned as one of the most exciting young talents in F1. Has your life changed since becoming an F1 driver? I’m still the same person that has been racing their whole life. Obviously, in Formula 1, you have many more eyes and cameras, and you’re recognized more often, but have I changed? No. Has my life changed? Yes, I get to drive the fastest race cars in the world.
We’re down to the final few races of the season. Abu Dhabi will be the grand finale and then F1 will return to Saudi too next year. What’s your view on the calibre of the circuits within the Middle East? I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t a big lover of the more traditional circuits, like Suzuka, Silverstone, and Spa. High-speed tracks carry so much history. Having said that, we need tracks to build a full schedule of races throughout the year, and F1 has done an excellent job in keeping us active across the whole season around the world.
Your partner, Muni He is a Professional Golfer of the LPGA tour. Have you also taken up an interest in golfing since it has recently taken the F1 teams by storm? I’ve definitely taken up an interest, but I’m still lacking in the golf talent area. We play with my family and friends quite often, and it’s a nice distraction from racing. You can’t get much further away from Formula 1 than putting on a golf green.
You were recently hospitalized in the ICU with appendici tis and respiratory failure – three weeks later you raced the Singapore Grand Prix. How did you recover and prepare so quickly for this? That was a big challenge, for sure. The sur gery was delicate, and recovering from that was no concern, but my lungs took some time to recover to full fitness. Sin gapore is probably the most physically demanding track on the calendar – it’s a harsh climate with humidity, and it’s an aggressive street track with little room for error or respite. It’s intense, so my trainer created a detailed and scientific plan to get my lungs as strong as possible to deal with the physicality. We treated it like a full-time job, which paid off, as I felt good in the car.
Have you had any mentor or role models along the way that has helped shaped your path? I always followed Valentino and Michael from a racing perspective. They were true mas ters of their craft, and that’s where I drew a lot of inspiration.

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? When I’m at my house in Pennsylvania, I like to have a cup of cold brew coffee with almond milk to get me going and then I like to go out and say good morning to my horses. Their energy is the best way to start the day.
What inspired you to launch ‘The Points Guy’? I’ve had a good understanding of how to maximise points and miles since I was a young child. When I started working in Corporate America, I realised I could start earning a lot of points for myself through work travel. In 2010, I started The Points Guy as a blog for fun and never in a million years did I think it would grow to what it is today. I get great satisfaction out of help ing people unlock the power of points and miles. It’s the best job in the world to help people explore this amazing earth.
What’s the best way to get started when it comes to building points for an enthusiast? Sign up for hotel and airline loyalty pro grammes as most are free and a great way to earn points when you fly and stay at ho tels. Second, credit cards are the biggest way to earn points from not only travelling but through everyday purchases. The best way to earn lots of points sustainably is to have a multifaceted approach – earn from travel, earn from everyday spending, and book smartly.
What are the top 3 tips you can share to get started? My top three tips to get started are firstly, it’s important to get the right credit card that rewards you for what you spend the most on. Secondly, always shop through online shopping portals for extra miles and points and lastly leverage social media and travel platforms to find the best deals such as Scott’s Cheap Flights, The Points Guy and Google Flights.
What piece of advice would you give to your younger self? Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path. Some of my best trips have been to less popular destinations such as Israel and Rwanda that really open your eyes to amazing and different cultures, wildlife, and cuisines.
What is the best thing you’ve been able to afford though the points you’ve collected?
It’s been amazing to travel with my parents and take them on memorable trips. For ex ample, we flew the Emirates A380 together and I made my mom take a shower to ex perience doing so at 40,000 feet in the sky.
We also use points and miles to support an amazing nonprofit organisation called PeaceJam and visit their communities in Ghana, Liberia, South Africa and Guate mala. So, using points and miles to both give back and travel with my parents has been the ultimate dream.

Ballers
We discuss adding to Dubai’s fitness and wellness space, all under one roof
Ballers has everything under one roof –tell us more about how the concept came about? The concept was born to create real impactful change and development within the community. Ballers is on a mission to create a sports community, and to provide a platform for the youth to go through serious development. Ev ery young athlete wants to feel and train like a professional, and we created ac cess to that life at Ballers. What are the key sporting activities here? We have our youth Development and Elite Performance Football Acad emies, we have our Padel Tennis Acad emy, and our Rugby Academy. None of which existed in the downtown Dubai area before. We also house a state-ofthe-art boutique gym, and a multi pur pose studio for yoga, pilates, and other group class activities. Padel is growing in popularity in the UAE. How has this overhauled the sporting community in the emirate? It has been wonderful and inspiring to see the pace at which padel tennis has grown. The sport has been instrumental in getting people back to activity, and in a social setting. In addition, it has definitely ex panded the sports landscape in the emir ate as the sport caters to everybody, and many individuals of all ages who were never into any type of sports became consistent padel players. Itʼs wonderful. The community has the best professional coaches for each sport. What is your se lection process? We identify coaches and instructors who are aligned with our development approach. We are serious about developing our current and future Ballers of all ages. Our team has exten sive experience and technical capabili ties in identifying the perfect program
ming for our clientele. We use state of the art human measurement technologies and create the best approach to fitness development. We look for experts who prefer a low student to coach ratio to support our Ballers approach.
This concept also focuses on rising ath letes. Was this the plan from the outset?
Yes, we are on a mission to provide a dis ciplined approach to our young athletes. As probably the only facility in Dubai purposely built to carry out a fully com prehensive programme from strength and condition, mobility, nutrition, and per formance, we are confident of the posi tive impact our programmes will create. What are the meditation classes that the facility has to offer? We are partnering up with some of the best instructors out there. We are focusing on creating disci pline physically and mentally. The pro grammes are under design and will be out there for people to delve into very shortly.
The hub is delving into injury risk and rehabilitation. What programmes are available? We are heavily invested in the science of sports. We have our hu man measurement tracking technologies which help identify imbalances and areas of improvement. We collect the data after the test and design a programme tailor made for the individual. People are not all built the same, so why not use tech nology to tailor make and design a pro gramme specific to each person through data collection and performance based tests. The report and results of each test will then be analyzed, and that in turn, will create a programme for the individ ual to maintain activity, improve imbal ances, avoid injury, and recover faster.
It is the reason professional athletes are competing for longer in this day and age.

A Great Vintage
Mazin Al Kahatib, Founder & CEO of Nostalgia Classic Cars, discusses how he turned a passion for collecting and restoring vintage cars into to a thriving business
66 emiratesman.ae LIFESTYLE
What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine? I begin my day by read ing the newspaper headlines to have an under standing of what’s happening around the world.
Next I read through the sales report and work shop reports of the previous day to make a list of what needs to be done for the same day. I then have a quick meeting with the admin, sales and workshop supervisor for 10 minutes.
What inspired you to launch Nostalgia Classic Cars? It has been a dream of mine since I was a banker. I knew that after completing what I wanted to achieve in my banking career, I could convert my passion to a business.
Every car should tell a story. Does this impact your decision when buying a car? When this was a hobby of mine, that was the case. Now, when I look at it from a business perspective, I buy
according to the demand and market needs. Of course, when it comes to collecting classic cars, the story plays a big role in the purchase. The concept is located in one of Dubai’s key artis tic hubs. Was this the plan from the start? I con sider my collection as pieces of art and when I was thinking and deciding on a place, of course Alserkal Avenue came to mind, as it’s one of the first “art hubs” of Dubai. Hence, the decision was made to be located in Alserkal Avenue. What was the first car you restored? The first car I restored was the 1948 Packard. You’re the first of its kind in the UAE. How did you see a gap in the market? I learned my lesson the hard way as the say. When I was a hobbyist, I would struggle to find the best denter or the best mechanic or the best painter and my car would move from one place to another. This made me always think of having a one stop shop that cov ers everything when it comes to restoration. Nostalgia Classic Cars Workshop does exactly that. Any project we do, the car never leaves the premises until the job is done. If we require additional support, we subcontract it to other shops. Everything from A to Z is done under one roof, this is what differentiates Nostalgia Clas sic Cars from all the other players in the market. What advice would you recommend to those who wish to invest in collecting vintage cars? When it comes to investing and collecting vintage cars, it’s important to choose the right brand and the right model. Try to have a detailed history of the car as much as possible. It’s imperative to prove the originality of the car and its parts, including the interiors, mechanical and the body.

PERSONAL SPACE
85emiratesman.aeLIFESTYLE
How long have you worked in this space? We will complete five years in this space soon.
Did you have a clear concept from the outset, and which key pieces are your favourite? Absolutely. Like any project or task, it first starts in your mind, and you begin to have a strong sense of what the outcome should look like. Personally, one of my favourite pieces would be the palm trees. This is something I proactively looked for. So when I found it, and how everything fit, from the size to it match ing our colour scheme, it was definitely the one.
Have you custom-built any bespoke pieces? We took the office shell and core, because I wanted to design it from scratch. Initially I drew the rooms and walls, and on a separate sheet planned the look and feel. My shelving unit with built-in lights behind my desk is custom made, as well as all the desks in the outer office.
How do you think your interior reflects you/ your brand? I believe it is a clear representation of both. Describe your taste in three words. Rustic, mod ern and masculine.

Since its establishment in Co logne in 1898, Rimowa has been the travel wingman of choice due to its resilience, lightness and stability. For its latest campaign, the brand is celebrating what truly enables lifelong journeys every where: its German engineering.
With the iconic Classic Cabin front and centre, the luxury Maison is returning to its roots. Titled “Ingenieurskunst” – a word that only exists in German which literally translates into “The Art of Engineering,” RIMOWA aims to reveal the true poetry of the process, materials, and manufacturing that enable its superior functionality.

The campaign takes us on a journey around the world, with kinetic installa tions in various locations giving an ode to RIMOWA’s signature aluminium, and showcasing German engineering like the world has never seen it before: as art.
Made from 6000 rivets, 180 sheets of an odized aluminium, and shells of the Clas

“The topic of German engineering might be considered dry or technical” says Emelie De Vitis, Chief Marketing Officer at RIMOWA. “But as our head engineer describes, ‘it is more like a symphony’. We wanted to show that German engineering –which is at the core of who we are – is truly considered art at RIMOWA.”
