Province gives a nudge to River Club development Environmental Authorisation given to mega development despite outstanding heritage matters and planning framework inconsistencies

A massive development including multiple 10-storey buildings at the River Club has been pushed one step closer to realisation with the granting of Environmental Authorisation by the provincial Department of Environmental Affairs & Development Planning on 20 August. The development within an area acknowledged to be of very high heritage significance as it was the original site of conflict between the Dutch settlers and indigenous peoples, is being opposed by civil society groups.
