New Voices exists because young people have something to say— and the skill, clarity, and imagination to say it through story, sound, and stage.
Since 2021, New Voices has created space for youth and young adults to write, compose, perform, and build alongside professional artists. It’s a paid opportunity to learn the craft and the business of the arts—while making work that speaks to the world we live in right now.
This year’s theme, Disappearing Acts, grew out of honest conversations with youth. They spoke about change—how people, places, opportunities, and even parts of themselves seem to vanish through life’s transitions. What you’ll experience tonight reflects those truths. It’s deeply personal, intentionally crafted, and powered by young artists committed to creating something real.
You’ll see original plays and compositions written by amazing young people. You’ll also see young adults on stage, behind the scenes, and in the booth—stage managing, running the lights, and delivering new work with care and vision.
What happens on stage tonight doesn’t end here. We invite you to carry it with you— to share what moved you, to support art-making in all its forms, and to stay connected to this growing circle of creativity and possibility.
Thank you for being here. Your presence supports the growth of Detroit’s creative economy and helps ensure that young artists are seen, heard, and supported as they build careers, community, and creative lives.
At Mosaic, we believe that art can do more than reflect the world—it helps create it. Thank you for joining us in this act of collective imagination.
With gratitude,
DELASHEA STRAWDER
Executive and Artistic Director

For over three decades, Mosaic has opened doors to transformative arts experiences. As we expand our reach, we’re strengthening our comprehensive, year-round programming that puts young people first.
Through strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives, we’re creatinglasting pathways for youth to discover their voices, develop their talents, and shape their futures. Every program, every performance, and every partnership advances our mission to transform lives through the arts.
Your support enables us to maintain consistent, high-quality programming while expanding our impact across generations. Together, we’re nurturing artists and developing leaders, critical thinkers, and community builders who will shape tomorrow.
Thank you for investing in the boundless potential of our young people.
For 32 years, Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit has created pathways to equity and opportunity through the arts. Our work prepares youth to excel on stage and in life, developing next generation leaders through transformative arts experiences.
Accessibility is a priority. We offer low to no-cost arts and leadership training, mentorship and academic support, digital resources, and ticket discount programs for schools and youth.
Our impact is measurable: 95% of ensemble members graduate high school on time and pursue college education, with a 74% college persistence rate since 2019. Our alumni are changing the world as lawyers, educators, entrepreneurs, Tony and Grammy winners, engineers, playwrights, and community leaders.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to reflecting Detroit’s unique spirit in our work. We will continue to foster youth agency, co-creating safe and brave spaces for young individuals to build the skills, tenacity, and networks they need to thrive through adulthood.
Whether you’re a long-time supporter or first-time visitor, your presence helps sustain our mission and creates positive change for generations.
Mosaic’s mission is to create pathways to equity and opportunity through arts experiences that engage, transform, and inspire youth and communities.
Only the best, nothing less. We are committed to pursuing excellence in our programs, business operations, and partnerships. We are dedicated to investing the time and resources necessary to achieve excellence in all that we do.
We hold ourselves accountable to courageously pursuing creativity, resourcefulness, and imagination. We embrace innovative, audacious ideas that work towards accomplishing our mission.
The uniqueness of each individual contributes to the strength and beauty of the whole. We are committed to upholding safe spaces that prioritize honesty, trust, respect, and integrity. We honor diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and expertise to enhance the communities we serve and those we are a part of creating.
We choose to embrace joy as we pursue our mission and work to spread joy to others as we connect, collaborate, create, and incite positive change in our community.
We envision Detroit area youth having equity of opportunity in arts and post- secondary education including paid creative sector leadership roles.
We envision a thriving Detroit, enriched by the brilliance and creativity of its youth, culture keepers and community members.
We envision an arts and culture industry that benefits from a strong network of diverse and dynamic next generation creative leaders.
We envision young people transforming the world by activating the power of the arts to motivate, mobilize and make positive change.
