Central Table Eatery at Lancaster General

THE NEW CENTRAL TABLE EATERY IS REDEFINING THE SPIRIT OF FOOD CONNECTION WITHIN THE HOSPITAL.

In 2019 a two phase renovation plan broke ground at Lancaster General with a strong vision for the ultimate partnership. After the initial transition of the kitchen in February of 2022, the first phase of the retail renovation welcomed guests on May 6, 2022. Each stakeholder played a part in building these successful guiding principles: Lancaster General Hospital team, Morrison Healthcare site leadership team, designers Vision Builders, architects Perkins & Will, construction Benchmark, and Clark Foodservice Equipment. Staff, patients, and visitors are now able to enjoy a modern, fresh food hall experience with a variety of stations, organic snacks, fair trade local coffee, and a strong healthy variety of options powered by the Morrison Healthcare WellPower brand.

Central Table Eatery is committed to a 50% FIT Criteria within their café. This means every entrée, side dish, snack, and beverage must maintain a regulated, balanced nutrient level of calories, saturated fat, sodium, and carbonated versus non-carbonated beverage mix. The Eatery is also proud to offer the ultimate variety in organic and local snacks, vegan and vegetarian options, and gluten avoiding items.

ON HIS FAVORITE TECH TREND: My favorite trend is the use of the QR code. It’s such a simple tool that can help tell the story by bringing a product to life with a quick video message.

HIS BIGGEST LESSON LEARNED:

GO ALL IN. Customer adoption really struggles when you hang onto the old and barely introduce the new. It’s confusing to the guests and we’ve found they simply get “it” when we fully implement the technology solution.

IMPLEMENTING SELF-CHECKOUT:

It’s important to bring our front line teams into the conversation early and often. Many times it’s a culture of change for our own teams more than it is for the guests. Don’t leave your team out of the process; they can be our biggest ambassadors.

The menu is crucial and ultimately the main program driver. A complete and strong menu will make this program a success.

Create your own identity. Pay close attention to every branding detail, even packaging. A strong brand builds return customers.

Promote, promote, promote. Constantly be on the lookout for new ways to promote the brand. A large scale, pre-launch awareness campaign key. Grab guest's attention early, to help develop your customer base and drive usage early, enforcing the new habit.

Morrison Healthcare has partnered with Volanté to introduce the most streamlined and efficient multi-restaurant ordering experience yet. Our guests have the freedom of choice and the convenience of consolidated contact-less checkout.

Scan2Go enables our guests to place food orders market-style. Guests can order from a variety of restaurants, with a single consolidated bill. Leveraging barcode stickers, Scan2Go transforms all food orders into scan and pay items, removing the hassle of numerous individual checkouts.
