HIDE & SEEK Hide and seek has always been a popular pastime for young and old alike but now visitors to Mt Martha’s Balcombe Estuary can feast their eyes on so much more when they eventually find what they’re looking for…. And it’s thanks to the construction of a new bird hide, north of the bridge, that gives bird spotters of all ages a superb viewpoint of this unique estuarine environment. Named in honour of Mt Martha Balcombe Estuary Reserves Group’s (BERG) hardest working volunteer – Liz Barraclough – the hide has been put together with sponsorship from Bunnings who supplied the materials. It was designed and constructed by members of BERG and the Rotary Club of Mt Martha and commemorates Rotary’s 40th birthday. BERG President, Graham Hubbard, is brimming with pride at the unveiling of the new hide. He said: “Balcombe Estuary is an important natural resource and by reducing sedimentation in the estuary and stopping the run off from roads and storm water issues, we hope to attract new species of birds.” The group is currently working with Mornington Peninsula Shire with the long term view of building sedimentation basins and this should result in boosting the already existing 50 species of our feathered friends. Having good rainfall this year, the estuary is full and has seen the return of the Black Swans that have not graced these waters for three years – and there is no better spot to observe them than in the new Liz Barraclough Bird Hide. Field Officer Liz has given over 13,000 hours of her own volunteer time over the past 17 years, preserving and restoring the Balcombe Estuary and Reserves and managing

many groups to multiply the effect of her efforts. Graham added: “Liz Barraclough epitomises the spirit of volunteerism and is well known in the Mt Martha area for her passion for the environment, her selflessness, expertise, leadership and positivity. “We feel privileged to have this exceptional woman spearheading our environmental work and I’m proud to work alongside her – with a spade, at working bees, moving mulch, writing submissions and lobbying! “Naming this bird hide after her gives some recognition for all her efforts to preserve and restore this unique estuary.” So, if you love the thrill of seeing a Royal Spoonbill or an elegant White Faced Heron, then the new Liz Barraclough Bird Hide is where you need to be. Ready or not, here we come….!

TAYLAH-MADE

Self-taught music runs in the family of this Mornington songbird who has an internationally famous uncle. Taylah Carroll speaks to Mandi Pugh about her music… “Blue … like the sea.” That’s what songstress Taylah Carroll sings about in her latest release. And being from Mornington, she only has to look out to the bay for her inspiration… For the young 19-year-old has become heavily involved in the Peninsula’s thriving live music scene and continues to play her part on the circuit of up and coming musicians. Currently in her second year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Melbourne, Taylah, who has been likened in her musical genre to Sia and Sarah Blasko, has taken her soothing songbird style to the Revolver Band-room on Chapel Street and the iconic Corner Hotel in Richmond. The eldest of five, Taylah told me about how she remembers that she has sung “forever”. She said: “I used to write poetry as a child and never really liked the theory side of my music lessons in school. It’s a creative thing for me. It comes from within. How I feel. How I am…” Taylah had a few piano lessons during her schooling years and saved up to invest in a keyboard and a PA system that would send her on the road to recognition. She’s a self-confessed self-taught keyboard player who takes a leaf out of the book of her uncle, Steve Harris, founder member of 70s heavy metal band, Iron Maiden. He, too, was a self-taught musician, teaching himself a certain ‘galloping’ style of guitar playing that nobody has ever been able to copy but the two are poles apart in their musical genres. But can you copy unique. And that’s what Taylah Carroll is. Although she has a very different style to her Uncle Steve, it’s

clear that Peninsula venues are lucky to have her as a regular entertainer with her charismatic routines. With a whole host of events under her belt, having played at the Portsea Hotel’s huge Easter event and being staged at Melbourne’s Boney Bar and Bandroom on Little Collins Street, Taylah is due back in the studio soon to record an EP. She can be caught next live on stage at ‘Beyond the Valley’ Summer music festival in Phillip Island from December 30-January 1. Now in it’s 18th year, the annual Scottish Ladies Lunch originally started with a handful of wee like-minded lassies who got together to chew the fat over a leisurely lunch. Numbers have swelled over the years as more and more Scots make the move to Melbourne from their northern UK hinterlands and last year’s lunch welcomed 50 ladies. This year, the date earmarked for the gathering at Harba, Mornington, is November 29 from noon until 4.30pm – not a lot of time to get through half the subjects we ladies cover but “guid gear comes in sma’ bulk”… (good things come in small packages). This year, singing for the group will be Somerville singer, Sarah Gardner, a veteran of the Australian Idol and Popstars TV shows. She will feature in her repertoire a number of Scottish favourites including ‘Flower of Scotland’, ‘I Will Walk 500 Miles’ and ‘Loch Lomond’ and it promises to be “pure dead brilliant” (exceptionally good). With perfect timing, the lunch falls on the eve of St Andrew’s Day – Scotland’s official national day. Anyone who fits the criteria of being Scottish, or going along with somebody Scottish, can join in the fun, food, laughter, songs and drinking the Scottish way. Those interested, should call Edna McMinimee on 0411 812 704 by November 10. The cost of $40 per head includes a two course meal, glass of wine and entertainment by Sarah.

SURF’S UP FOR FLINDERS ‘FISH’ Jetsetter Georgia Fish takes time out of her busy surfing schedule to talk to Mandi Pugh With a surname like ‘Fish’ you’d expect to see who it belonged to pretty much love the water. And for Georgia Fish of Flinders, this surname couldn’t be more perfectly matched. For when the 21 year old isn’t on terra firma, she’s equally at home riding the waves both near and far. She was home for just a short week when I caught up with her before heading off to Lennox Head in NSW to begin off-season training. Georgia is from a real surfing family. Mum Anne, dad Richard and sister Alex all love to ride the waves but it’s Georgia that’s taken her love one tidal wave further. International competition participation has seen her compete worldwide, taking on the different waves and challenging conditions that each country presents. With this in mind, it’s not surprising to learn that she will go through two or three boards every few months. The tools of her trade need to be suited to whatever conditions she expects to handle. She knows that American waters call for a smaller, wider board with more foam to best handle the smaller and weaker waves. But in Spain, their waters call for narrower boards with thinner rails and more foam through the centre to cope with the more powerful waves she rides. And all this comes at a cost. She said: “Airfare and accommodation costs are really hard to meet. But mum and dad are really supportive, in fact I think they are my major sponsors! I train up in Lennox Head because there are no surf specific training grounds in Victoria that provide what I need to achieve my goal of NOVEMBER 2014 (37)

making the 2016 Women’s World Surfing Tour (WCT). I have to end the year ranked in at least the top 5-7 to be guaranteed a spot on the WCT for the following year.” Running a close second in the sponsorship stakes is yoga/lifestyle clothing company, Choclo. Georgia met the company’s owner, Roland Wimbush, when she was competing at the Swatch Girls Pro event in France last year. Her passion of yoga led her to a business arrangement with Choclo as she continues to align herself with companies who care for the environment. Georgia and Anne have brought the organic cotton range to Australia – under the name Ethical Creations – and, with Georgia as an ambassador, are busy raising awareness and going all out in its distribution. The organic cotton used in the range is sourced from Peru and for the new season’s collection, a non-synthetic surf range will no doubt make an impact when it is released. Each garment has a personal touch, inspired by the creative hands of the children in the program and the purchase of any Choclo product sees 5% of sales going directly back to them. It’s interesting to know that the sale of just eight average priced products will buy medical care to keep Jaime Wilfredo Munoz Diaz, a creative child from Peru with Cystic Fibrosis, alive for another day. So as Georgia prepares for her off-season training, it’s clear to see that she never switches off from the things that are close to her heart. Always on the lookout for sponsorship, and/or donations that will help with travel expenses and competitions, she can be reached by emailing fish@aanet.com. au or visit www.ethicalcreations.com.au to take a peek at the collection that puts cash back into the communities from where it has come.

Make it Happen written by Andrew Van De Beek illumin8 Partners

How far away is that next adventure? During the last six months, it seems that many of my friends have caught the “let’s spend 3 months exploring Europe on the trip of a lifetime” bug. I often sit in bed, stalking Facebook page after Facebook page, living vicariously through their experiences, and waiting eagerly for their return; all the while dreaming of having more freedom in my life to have my own adventures. A close friend of mine recently described me as a man/ puppy hybrid. #Notyouraveragehuman. An adult male, yet with the excitement and yearning for adventure just like a puppy. You know what? I love that analogy. I never want to stop experiencing new things. I know I want to work less, play more. I want to spend more time with my family and friends and less time apologising for not being available to do so. So I decided to start taking some steps in the right direction and I began considering: • What do I truly desire? • How long will it take to achieve my desires? • What’s stopping me from getting there sooner? Just considering those questions can be an intense, yet significant step in the right direction. Although I find myself with more questions than answers. I’ve started spending time with a business coach who isn’t afraid to ask me the hard questions. I’m meeting regularly with a close group of successful mates, and I’m now intentionally seeking out opportunities to stretch me. These two-way interactions have really helped me to grow professionally and personally, and I can see my next adventure beginning to take shape, albeit in the distance. But it’s a lot closer than it was 6 months ago. So, how far away is your next adventure, and what are you doing to make it happen?

Lost, then found with skynanny DEVELOPED BY MORNINGTON’S JASON PETCH I’ve been there; surrounded by a crowd of halfnaked beach goers in the hot sun, eyes squinting, desperately searching for a child that was right beside me a split second before. There’s nothing like the feeling - the panic free-styling around your body. You can’t see them in the sea of bodies. There’s no way of knowing which way they went. You only know that the water is there, strangers are everywhere and…. Welcome to the world of parenting! It’s a tough job to keep your eyes on your children twenty-four seven. It’s just not possible. So what to do? Enter skynanny, the innovative tracking device developed by local Mornington horse trainer Jason Petch (of Jason Petch Racing). Now you can find some peace of mind and ‘locate, track and relax’ with this neat little locating device. The skynanny uses a combination of GPS, GSM/3G and Bluetooth technology to link with the skynanny app which can be downloaded for free from any iPhone or android smartphone. Finding your kids, pets or even belongings has never been so easy. Jason explains. ‘My daughter was two years old when she went missing at Mothers beach. No-one could tell me where she was. I went in to panic overdrive. Then two weeks later I was down at Safety Beach with the horses and a guy came up to me desperately looking for his daughter. I headed off to look for her, and I found her further down the beach, but there was a stranger leaning over her. That was it. My mind started racing.’

Lort Smith & Elgee Park Animal, wine and art lovers have the opportunity to support Lort Smith’s Emergency Boarding Program as Elgee Park opens their private sculpture collection for an exclusive event on Saturday, November 15, 3pm – 8pm. The fundraiser, which will help Lort Smith in its work supporting people and animals in their hour of greatest need, will provide live music, children’s entertainment, door prizes, auctions, local food and, of course, Elgee Park wines. Tickets include a stroll through the sculpture strewn vineyard, a glass of Elgee Park Family Reserve wine and wood-fired pizza. Lort Smith’s Emergency Boarding Program provides crucial assistance for the animals of people in crisis. Last year Lort Smith spent $40,000 on Emergency Boarding animals. Hosted by Samantha Baillieu, a Lort Smith board member, and Channel Nine’s Livinia Nixon, a passionate animal welfare supporter, will be MC for the day. For tickets call 9321 7213 or emorgan@lortsmith.com.au

So where to begin? ‘It’s taken me three years to get this up and running. After about a year of research, I had to find an electronic designer who could develop the design. I went through three of them! Then it was on to production.’ Luckily Jason is not afraid of hard work. He’s up at 3am and on the go ‘til he drops. (Apparently most trainers fall asleep into a bowl of pasta at the end of the day.) He’s been spending every spare moment on skynanny. ‘The skynanny provides you with distance and direction information. Just enter who or what you want to locate and it will appear on a Google map with direction arrows. As you or the police get closer (to within ten metres), sonar readings will appear. If I can save one child with skynanny, it will be worth it.’ This little ripper of a device is great for all kinds of tracking needs. Think about the mentally impaired and the elderly, or even missing bushwalkers. It is small and discreet – the skynanny can be kept in a small pocket that can be buttoned inside any article of clothing. It’s almost indestructible (waterproof, fireproof and pretty much crush proof), and works world-wide. It also comes with some heavy weight backing. Child safety advocate Derryn Hinch is the skynanny ambassador. Skynanny is also looking to be affiliated with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation which assists educators and parents in the education of children about personal safety. Launched on October the 30th, this wonder product is on the market just in time for Christmas (great present idea) and those long summer holidays ahead. Think about it - where will your kids be? Visit http://skynanny.net or call Jason at Jason Petch Racing on 0408 589 611 for more information by Liz Rogers

PRESIDENT ROOTS LATE NIGHT RADIO TOUR

Haydn Godony chews the fat with Simon Dodd of President Roots about their new album and local gigs.

Is the new album an evolution or a departure from She Lights Up, Professor Longhair and Spider Fingers and Hearts? Are any of those singles included? The cd contains all new tracks though there will also be a bonus disc of previously unheard recordings and rare songs one of which is a live version of Professor Longhair. When we were making the record we had a very specific time period in our heads that we wanted to evoke and that was the years of 1972 -1975. Perhaps this era seems so special as it was the golden age of our childhoods but it also contains some amazing music. We were listening to JJ Cale, The Rolling Stones, Steely Dan and Van Morrison as well as a lot of soul music. The Album was recorded before you went to Cambridge, a year ago, has there been any tweaking in that time? We recorded the album backing tracks live in my Blairgowrie Studio Shed in 2013. In June that year I took the tracks over to UK to finish and mix. Recently I sent them to Golden Sounds California to get the album mastered in the west coast sunshine. After I returned to the UK the guys came out for a quick band tour of England’s playing in the Lake District, Cambridge, Bath, London and Brighton. President Roots has had its share of line-up changes; will the band be the same at the upcoming gigs? The band line up has been stable for the last couple of years.

Currently it is Greg Coles on drums, Pete “Smokey” Dawson on bass and Tony Byrne on keyboards. We will have a few special guests for these shows. Hilton Melder has been a feature of our recent shows; his infamous trombone walkabouts fire up the audience without fail. Dan Lazner and Peter Kaighan complete a fine brass section. Chris Stockley guitarist for the Dingoes will make a Melbourne appearance and Gordo Clark will guest on the Peninsula. With this recording, did it flow? The recording process was an immense amount of fun and we really did try to pull out all the stops on this one. I wanted to bring our ‘A game’ to the table as a way of wrapping up this chapter of the bands history. The addition of Tony’s keyboards has been somewhat of a revelation, and really expanded our

sound. I ‘m currently enjoying working as a producer in the UK making albums for other artists and bands, one quite famous artist, but I’m afraid I’m not allowed to say who at the moment. If someone asked me to describe President Root’s sound I think I would say slightly raucous Country Rock, with added trombone. Would you agree? I don’t think we are particularly country unless you call The Rolling Stones country. I always find describing our music difficult; We usually try to mix up our musical genres to attempt come up with something that isn’t so formulaic. I don’t really aspire to fit in to any clichéd definition of blues, folk or country. Someone once said writing about music is like dancing about architecture, so “Google us” and make up your own mind up I say. You launch the album at Rose GPO on Friday, November 14, then Saturday November 15 at Baha and Sunday, November 16 at The Heritage. Your audience already know the band, are there any surprises? We are getting very excited at the prospect of playing together again and playing our favourite Peninsula venues. We are also going to doing shows in Melbourne and Sydney. My son’s band ‘Police & Thieves’ will support us in Melbourne, they are fantastic, with really great songs and riffs. We will be playing tracks from every era of the band so there will definitely be a few surprises in store. The full band will play all shows and we will have a brass section and special guests where possible. The title track from the new album ‘Late Night Radio’ has already been released through iTunes as a single taster. www.presidentroots.com

Welcome to a new age for vet care on the Peninsula! At first glance, you may not notice that much has changed at your local vet clinic. Same place, same familiar faces and the same care for you and your best friend… But look a little closer and you’ll see that exciting things are happening! Peninsula Vet Care welcomes the team from Peninsula Animal Hospital to the family! Peninsula Vet Care has evolved with the Peninsula since it’s founding in 1980, growing to establish hospitals in Dromana, Mornington, Rosebud and Rye. With an equally illustrious history, the team at Peninsula Animal Hospital Mt. Eliza adds more depth and experience to the group as a whole. With a mutual goal of raising the standards of service and professional veterinary practice to new levels, you can count on the best local care for your best friend no matter where you are on the Peninsula! “Times have changed the way we think about pets. They are true family members now, and as vets it is our goal that we can provide the same level of care as a human doctor would for us. With advances in technology, we have the ability, but not always the resources to do this” says Dr Colin Trott a partner of Peninsula Vet Care.

The merger now sees a total of 26 highly trained surgeons, and 40 nurses amongst the Peninsula Vet Care team. Every one is passionate about animals, and brings their own individual interests and skills into the team as a whole. This means an unrivalled depth and diversity of experience that can be passed on to improve the health of your pets! Services at PVC cover your pet from its first vaccinations, regular health checks, behavioural consults, general illness and skin problems through to the diagnosis and treatment of complex medical and surgical issues. Its not only dogs and cats either, with vets interests in exotic species, birds, pocket pets and free treatment for wildlife as well. The group already has the latest in diagnostic equipment including integrated digital x-ray units, ultrasound, endoscopy and ‘in-house’ pathology.

Weekends are still 9am-5pm Saturday, and 10am-4pm Sunday with an after hours Vet paging service operational until 11pm. “We hope that you don’t need to use our emergency service, but it’s great peace of mind knowing that you have someone you can trust nearby if you should ever need it. Our goal is to ensure the health and happiness of your pets, regardless of time or circumstance. As a result, you can sit back and enjoy the fun, love and companionship these guys bring to our lives!” says Colin.

“The aim of this collaboration is to provide a truly complete service. The best part is that people won’t have to travel in order to make use of our network, and probably won’t even realise the work going on behind the scenes. Every clinic will retain its own local identity, and you can deal with your favourite vet, safe in the knowledge that the rest of the group is behind them to offer advice and support. We already provide a great service but now have the ability to take it to the next level.” says Colin. From November 1st, the East Mornington branch will extend its opening hours until 11pm during weekdays.

Premier coastal living at Martha Cove Luxury living at Safety Beach’s resort-style development, Harbourside Terraces at Martha Cove Dolphin Research Charity Ball held at Mornington Golf Club during October was a resounding success. Everything we love about the peninsula, fresh every month

Developer Three Pillars has launched their fifth and final selling stage for their muchanticipated Harbourside Terraces. Nestled between Mount Martha and Dromana at Safety Beach, Harbourside Terraces will give homeowners the best access to many of the Peninsula’s most coveted hot spots. Residents will enjoy the ultimate in coastal living, be a stone’s throw from Safety Beach’s picturesque shore, and be among Martha Cove’s premier hub. Plus, to correspond with the launch of the final stage, Three Pillars is proposing a special boat berth offer to coincide with the fast-paced sales of the properties. Designed by Malcolm Elliott Architects and built by Edgepoint Homes under an exclusive arrangement, the Harbourside properties feature six-star energy ratings, communal pools and barbecue areas, backto-base security systems, landscaped gardens and off-street parking. Standard internal inclusions are Smeg stainless steel appliances, Caesarstone® benches and quality floor coverings. The beautifully appointed Harbourside Terraces will tempt buyers looking for coastal living with a luxurious flair. The townhouses in Stage 5 come in a range of two- and three-storey floor plans, with three or more bedrooms and include double garages and outdoor entertainment balconies. Located within 4km of the Mornington

Peninsula Freeway and within an hour of the CBD, Stage 5 townhouses are priced from $449,000 to $519,000, and interested buyers need make haste, as there are only a small number of lots still available. As expected, the first three stages sold swiftly, and the best floor plans have been saved until last. This is the final opportunity to snap up one of the remaining premium townhouses. “The fifth and final stage is one of the last chances to secure a Harbourside Terraces address and a saving on a berth at the estate’s safe boating harbor,” says Three Pillars Director Tom Hoogenbosch. To secure one of the remaining Harbourside Terraces allotments, please call 1300 461 732 or visit the Harbourside Terraces sales office located within Martha Cove Café. Situated on the corner of Harbourside Esplanade and Anchorage Avenue in Safety Beach, the sales office within Martha Cove Café is open seven days from 10am to 4pm.

Your ‘cruise & travel’ specialists on the Peninsula!!

As an independent travel agency Somerville Travel & Cruise offer a high quality of service. They are members of Travellers Choice, Cruiseco, AFTA and ATAS and are a fully accredited travel agency. Well travelled owner Moira Scott has specialised in cruising since 1980 and has experienced many ‘types’ of cruises from expeditions to Antarctica, yacht style cruises around the Greek Islands and River Cruises. Also on hand is Jackie Neilson who has specialised in Norwegian coastal voyages and tours worldwide. And Rachael who comes with a wealth of knowledge, having travelled around Australia and has also cruised on many ships. Somerville Travel & Cruise can arrange ‘tailor-made’ worldwide holidays and of course also within our own beautiful Australia. Moira explains, “It is imperative for our clients to be offered the right ship or tour and itinerary to suit their personal needs. Budget is of course very important along with so many different types of options from

‘family’ cruises to ‘adult only’ ships, educational type cruising and of course river cruises.” With so many variations in ships and cruise companies to choose from, it would be a recipe for disaster for a client to be on a ship for two weeks that was not suited to them. “This is where our experience and knowledge is paramount to our clients and after we have investigated their requirements we can then look at the best options. Family and themed cruises are very popular and we can offer special group rates!” said Moira. You are invited to visit their website www. somervilletravel.com.au where you will notice their UK website runs alongside. There are many offers on our website and, if you mention you saw this advert in Mornington Peninsula Magazine then they will make a special offer of 20% discount off their insurance policy for all bookings made through Somerville Travel & Cruise. CFA OPEN DAY IN MT MARTHA A free community event to raise awareness of the CFA will take place in Mt Martha this month. The fourth Mt Martha CFA Open Day and Christmas Market will be on Sunday, November 23 at the brigade headquarters of 6 Latrobe Dve, Mt Martha. The annual event has gained a reputation for being a great family day out with lots of activities and an array of stalls to pick up some Christmas gifts - from jewellery, handmade chocolates and soft toys to recycled timber products, LED novelties and handcrafted aprons and gifts. One of the stalls will feature fresh berries, another will showcase jams and pickles – a real ‘made in the community, for the community’ event

at which visitors can come and go as they please between 10am and 2pm. Keeping the crowds entertained will be firefighter demonstrations and it’s a certainty the children will love the opportunity of sitting up in a fire truck with the lights flashing and sirens sounding. There will even be a chance to squirt the fire hose and chat with local CFA volunteers – and for those interested, ask them how to get involved and become a volunteer firefighter. Devonshire teas and a sausage sizzle will be served up while raffle tickets for CFA funds will be sold and make sure you visit the CFA homemade cake stall before you leave to stock up on sweet treats for afternoon tea. For further details, call 5974 4678.

The next meetings of the Victorian Picnic Racing Club of the Year Award 2013-2014 will be on November 8 and December 6 and it’s easy to see why this club has scooped such an accolade. Being able to drive into a racecourse, park under a tree and set up an esky and a barbie in bush surroundings provides a familyorientated horse racing experience like no other. Visit the mounting yard as the horses are paraded in front of the crowds and cheer your favourite home from trackside. There is a punter’s club, bookmakers and a tote service, not to mention bars and food stalls and numerous activities for the kids. Visitors are encouraged to take their own food and drink onto the course and after paying a nominal entry fee, they’re free to roam the land, take in the racing atmosphere and possibly delight at winning a few $$$ on the horses! Club of the Year award is the culmination of a great deal of hard work by the committee, supported by the public, members, sponsors, owners trainers and jockeys who race at meetings. This is the third consecutive year that the club has received this award and it acknowledges the great efforts of other clubs during the past season to improve picnic racing, the existence of such just a decade ago, was almost threatened. With a racing history dating back to 1863, the Balnarring club has celebrated its 150th year history during the 2012-13 season and picnic racing has never looked better. November 1st is Melbourne Cup Week’s Derby Day and the first Balnarring Picnic meeting is planned for Saturday, November 8th coinciding with Emirates Stakes Day in Melbourne. Big crowds are expected to close out the Cup week nicely. Balnarring Racecourse is located on the Mornington Peninsula, between Port Phillip Bay and Westernport Bay. They’ve got Soul Locals love the peninsula’s largest pharmacy in the Village Shopping Centre on Main Street. It just seems like Soul Pattinson has always been there providing first class pharmaceutical care. But things have changed! There are new owners (the pharmacy changed hands mid-August) and Mornington Peninsula Magazine want to know what this means for all those devoted clients. This is what we found out! The Daggians might be the new kids on the block but bring with them a wealth of pharmacy experience and personality which is obvious as John-Paul and I discuss the exciting changes he and his uncle Joseph have got in store. Collectively, the Daggians have over fifty years’ experience in pharmacy. It’s in their blood. Joseph started out in Dandenong before expanding and now he and his nephew (who is a Dromana local) have taken over Soul Pattinson. JohnPaul explains. ‘This is a great business. We want to develop it further by offering more of what our clients want.’ First stop is the opening of three beauty rooms where all your facial, waxing,

tanning, nails, eyebrow tinting and massage needs are covered. This coincides with the relaunch of the Lancôme, Chanel, Clinique and Estee-Lauder Beauty Bars and the relocation of the new Dior Stand. Looks like spring racing glamour and beach time beauty is on the radar with Soul. Then there’s the friendly full-service instore café offering light lunches and locally roasted coffees. Great for those waiting for prescriptions (four pharmacists are on call every day) and Saturday morning beauty product shoppers. Watch out for the Name the Soul Pattinson Café competition running up until the first week of December. First prize a delicious Darrel Lee Hamper. So yes things are changing, but many things remain the same. Soul Pattinson will still be servicing local nursing homes, retirement villages and The Bays Hospital. The familiar faces of the locally sourced forty three staff and all your vitamins, health checks, making life easier aids and Homey Ped range are still there, although the background music is definitely more upbeat. ‘We’re excited. Mornington is such a great place’, says John-Paul. And Mornington Peninsula Magazine agrees. Things are changing - for the better. Toorak College is ranked the top school on the Mornington Peninsula by the Weekend Australian (21/08/14) with top NAPLAN scores, and VCE results in 2012 and 2013. Toorak College was also selected to partner with Melbourne University in training graduate teachers in the Masters of Education program. Toorak College’s reputation has created unprecedented demand for additional classes in the Middle Years. Principal, Helen Carmody says, “We will remain a small school, true to our strategy of personalised learning and small classes for the core subjects of English and Mathematics, and we will continue to attract the best teachers including high calibre graduate teachers.” “We are set to embark upon a period of growth offering unique opportunities for girls to succeed in life beyond school,” continues Mrs Carmody. “Toorak College will be the only school on the Mornington Peninsula offering specialised courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for girls in the Middle Years. Our innovative programs will complement our existing reputation in the Arts, Music, Sport and academic endeavour. In 2014 we looked back on greatness but in 2015 our vision will be focused on future success.” NOVEMBER 2014 (37)

STATE ELECTION Carolyn Gleixner, one of Labor’s youngest Candidates at age 25, is relishing the challenge of taking on the Liberal MP Martin Dixon, in the State Election on 29th November. Carolyn says she is not daunted by the sizeable margin of 13.7% to unseat Martin Dixon. “This translates into only 5,810 votes. You never know for sure in politics. Anything can happen.” A local resident, who grew up in the electorate, Carolyn attended Flinders Kinder and Red Hill Primary School. She is a well-known face in her hometown of Flinders, having worked through her school and University years at the local Bakehouse Café. ‘I love travelling, however Flinders and the Mornington Peninsula will always be my home.’ After completing VCE at Woodleigh and a Building

Certificate II at Frankston Chisholm TAFE in 2007, she completed a Degree in Construction Management and a Masters in Project Management at RMIT. Carolyn is currently working as a Team Leader for an International Effectiveness Practice in Melbourne, focusing on Organisational Development. Although pursuing a career in Building and Construction, Carolyn admits she was always drawn to politics. She believes many of the practical leadership, negotiation and management skills developed through her career will help her be an effective representative for the people of Nepean in Parliament. Public transport and the environment are looming as critical election issues, and she is strongly opposed to the exclusive development proposal for Point Nepean. Carolyn will also be campaigning on education, jobs especially for young people, health, support services for pensioners and people on low incomes, affordable accommodation, small business growth, roads and community safety, including support for Labor’s Royal Commission into Domestic Violence. “There are a lot of issues because Nepean has been seriously neglected under the Liberals for the last 16 years,” said Carolyn. “I have had a fantastic response from the community,” said Carolyn. ”People who have been working on very worthwhile issues everywhere, have been making it very clear to me they are sick of hearing about “working hard” but getting no results from the Liberal MP’s.” Carolyn is determined to win the seat for Labor, and finally bring about the attention and action that the people of Nepean are entitled to get from their Parliamentary representative.

Freshest at the farmgate

The fabulous food experience on the Mornington Peninsula all starts at the farmgates, which grow and create a vast range of gourmet produce. Red Hill and Main Ridge are the best spots for luscious pick-your-own fruit. And don’t leave without visiting the dairies – their handmade cheeses are legendary, particularly with bread from a local bakery. Baxter is home to vegetable growers, with seasonal organic produce; salad greens, herbs, heirloom carrots, beans, pumpkin and more. There’s also cafes and cool bars that locals in the know adore for their ambience and the excellence of their food, wine and service. They’re everywhere…on vineyards, hidden away in the bush, on village high streets, perched over the sea or right opposite it in a laid back coastal village.

A Sicilian heritage has given Steven of Forno Constructions the sheer know-how to create the perfect wood fire oven. Who doesn’t get excited when they have an invitation to a night with friends around the pizza oven? It’s here where memories are made, not to mention the delicious home-made pizzas that come out of the process! A great focal and talking point, these impressive fireside features are the envy of those who don’t have one, providing hours of joy gathered around the flames. The majority of Steven’s work comes from recommendations from clients who rave about his creations and go on to refer him. They see the pleasure of those brought together around the feature and want to have a piece of that themselves. Be the envy of your friends and family while enjoying an amazing lifestyle. If you enjoy making simple, rustic foods, entertaining

outside and creating great memories, then this piece of alfresco luxury is for you…. And Steven is also on hand to go that extra mile and educate you on how to build the perfect fire. His recent trips to Italy have shown him how to create the perfect oven for the most tender of pizzas with crisp and bubbly crusts. PUPS KIDS TRIATHLON 29 & 30 November 2014

MULTISPORT FESTIVAL Lost in Time Mornington Peninsula images by John McCoy Photography

FUN – FAMILY – FITNESS a festival for the whole family! The Mornington Peninsula is set to come alive on 29 & 30 November as it welcomes Australia’s newest long distance triathlon and multisport festival to Mount Martha Village. Triathlon arrived in Australia in the early 1980’s and since then, its popularity has continued to grow. The introduction of new races around the country including Australia’s newest long distance triathlon and multisport festival on the Mornington Peninsula means there is bigger opportunity for local communities to become involved, either through competing, supporting or volunteering. Local Triathlon Coach, athlete and Race Director Sarah Grove said of her involvement in the sport. “I was relatively late coming into triathlon, having been in the sport for 7 years now though, my passion lies solely in introducing this sport to as many people as possible. The people you meet within the triathlon community are fantastic, and the best thing is, anyone can complete a triathlon NOVEMBER 2014 (37)

– from kids’ races, mini distance along with team events, there is opportunity for everyone to get involved, have fun and be fit, happy and healthy!” The new event being held at Mount Martha Village on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November is set to be a weekend full of activities for the whole family. The weekend festival features exciting events including the Kids TriPups Triathlon, Aquathons for all ages, 5km Beach Run and Open Water Swims, including the Mount Martha Mile, along with the festivals marquee event, the Mornington Triathlon which will see participants swim 1.9km in Port Phillip Bay, transition to a 90km ride along the Esplanade before finishing with a 21.1km run. This is a fantastic way to showcase the region and event organisers want to involve the whole community, so whether you want to participate in an event, put your hand up as a volunteer or come down and show your support on the day, you can find more details here: www.morningtontriathlon.com

EUROPEAN SKODA Welcome to Peninsula Skoda - where the European car without the European price tag, is on the doorstep in Frankston.

Josh Batson has been welcomed to the team due to a marked increase in sales and awareness of this amazing brand. Sales managed, John, himself a proud Skoda owner, said: “We have been here for about four years and it’s really taking off with Skoda going through its biggest growth this year. “We have six new or face lifted models on sale now and by the end of this year, with the hugely successful New Octavia RS, Octavia, Rapid, Facelift Yeti and Superb.” A sister brand of Volkswagen and Audi, Skoda utilizes the same drive trains, chassis and Volkswagen Group technology with prices starting at $16,990. The Skoda of the month has to be the New Yeti SUV that comes in three versions from a 4x2 Turbo Petrol to a top of the range 4x4 Turbo Diesel. They all come with features such as 5 star safety, rear camera, cruise control, rear sensors, Bluetooth, alloy wheels and more. There is even a version that parks itself! For the third year in a row, the Skoda Yeti took out the top stop in Driver Power, a UK owner’s satisfaction survey. It also maintains the envious record of having never finished outside the surveys top two. Clients who have purchased and owned a Skoda Yeti are impressed by its ease of driving, build quality and road handling.

Four years after the Yeti’s launch, reliability is proving a major factor in owner’s satisfaction with the car. So test drive now to find out for yourself. Call in to Peninsula Skoda and see John and Harry to find out more about the Skoda and Yeti range. Peninsula Skoda 108-114 Dandenong Road West, Frankston. Phone 9783 8200, www.peninsulaskoda.com.au

AN ANCIENT TRADITION: SCOUT CHRISTMAS TREES Did you know that the Christmas Tree tradition has its roots way back in history to the time of the Egyptians? Yes the ancient Egyptians are part of a long line of cultures including the Romans and the Druids that used evergreen trees to celebrate various important events such as the winter solstice, new life and the coming of spring. The trees that we use today to celebrate Christmas have a slightly more modern history. One legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. He had been walking in the woods and been struck by the beauty of some small evergreens their snow covered branches shining in the moonlight. When he got home he set up a small fir tree inside to demonstrate the story to his children and then decorated with candles to celebrate Christ’s birth! However at the time of writing it seems that this year it may be more difficult than Martin Luther found it to arrange a tree for your home from the Scouts, climatic issues such as drought and flood has meant that supplies this year look to be severely limited! To have a totally hassle free time the scouts suggest you preorder your tree and they will organise the delivery and or pickup (South Frankston and Mt. Eliza only). Just phone 9787 3333 or order online www.bpp.org.au. Baden Powell Scout Group will be selling trees on Saturday 6, Sunday 7, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December from the Scout hall on the corner of Baden Powell Drive and Humphries Road Frankston South. They will help you choose the perfect tree, with the option of home delivery and also pick up at the end of Christmas. NOVEMBER 2014 (37)

Whatever It Takes is back in black

Back in 2012, local not-for-profit organisation Whatever It Takes managed to raise over $50,000 for the Stand By You Cancer Foundation through their Bush Run and Walk event held in Mount Martha. This year they are back with another local event to inspire - the Splash of Black Gala Dinner. This Gala Dinner will be held on November 29 in the Gunnamatta Room at Mornington Racing Club and will raise much needed funds for Melanoma Patients Australia, a cause that is very dear to Whatever It Takes Committee’s heart after losing Jake, aged 22, to the disease in 2011. The Splash of Black event will be an elegant night with an exciting program including music from local guitarist Bek Turnbull, local band Bosley from Peninsula Band Host and an inspiring story from Melanoma survivor Scott Stephens plus plenty more surprises that you will just have to come along to see! With the onset of summer, this event hopes to remind everyone about the importance of being sun smart over the festive and holiday season. Tickets are available at whateverittakes.org.au. Individual tickets are $135 or a table of 10 can be purchased for $1,300. Ticket price includes canapés on arrival, a 2 course meal, beer, wine and softdrink.

ANDREA EBSWORTH TALKS ARTS & CULTURE

Aboriginal paintings, carvings, weavings and ceramics from all over Australia and a big range of licensed Indigenous design homewares, travel goods and many more items will feature in McCulloch & McCulloch’s ‘Small Gems’ Christmas show at their art consultancy and home gallery, Whistlewood, Shoreham in early December. “We’ve been selecting works for this all year in our travels around Indigenous communities,” says co curator Susan McCulloch. “It’s great to be able to show, as well as a great range of original works, licensed design homewares such as cushions, teapots, tea cups, Teapot licensed from a painting mugs, water bottles as well by artist Judy Watson as jewellery, cards, dog collars and lots of other goods.” The licensed designs items are produced under licence from Aboriginal artists and include those from the works of famous artists. They and all other artists receive royalties for all the goods produced, says McCulloch. “It’s a great way of artists and their descendants receiving an ongoing income,” she says. Original art, she says, includes “delightfully quirky ‘bird’ paintings by Alice Springs artist Jane Mervin, small ochre works on card from the Kimberley, colourful paintings from the APY Lands, Yuendumu and Utopia: carvings from the Tiwi Islands, Arnhem Land and the APY Lands, weavings from Arnhem Land and the Tjanpi weavers of the southern and western deserts, ceramics from Ernabella.” “It’ll be a very colourful, fresh and lively array and certainly something for everyone,” says McCulloch. Another year is fast coming to a close and as I have had a bit of a break in writing regularly, I thought I would talk about what the arts and culture team of the Shire have been up to. It has been a busy twelve months. I decided it best to concentrate on publishing the many creative and cultural activities going on to our arts blog www.artsonthepeninsula.com.au There has been enormous growth in subscriber numbers since linking the site to Facebook and LinkedIn. Promoting a rich tapestry from theatre auditions, productions and reviews, classical music performances, street art projects, artisans trails and exhibitions, markets and school fairs, creative workshops, poetry readings to Battle of the Bands youth events. Each year our Creative Community Grants fund community-driven projects such as the mural at Wallaroo shops, Hastings, also at the Norm Clarke Walk in Rosebud which attracted over 30 Melbourne street artists keen to take on the job. Red Hill artist, Michael Leeworthy, got the contract and the project will be mounted after the streetscape works are completed in early 2015. The new round of grants for 2015 has seen an unprecedented number of applications for creative activity. We look forward to announcing the successful applicants in PenWide in the New Year. Some of the Peninsula’s favourite musicians delighted crowds to launch and celebrate Our Libraries opening on Sundays. This summer over three Saturdays the ‘Paws for Reading’ program will see stories brought to life with the Peninsula Chamber Musicians. The Foyer Exhibition Space @ Mornington Library has hung the artwork of over 90 Peninsula artists in the last year and applications to hang work can be found on the Shire’s website/What’sOn/Arts_&_Culture pages. The Shire supported, Mornington Peninsula Music Network Inc, boasts a membership of over 150 Peninsula musicians and with the newly drafted Music Development Plan will further promote and celebrate the wealth of musical greatness through a Peninsula Music Week festival program in early 2015. The plan will also present an opportunity for our musical communities to ‘Have their

Say’. Become a member of the Music Network www. morningtonpeninsulamusic.com.au The much anticipated Public Art Policy will be presented to Council for adoption in the coming weeks. This will be an important milestone giving the necessary guidance to the Shire in its decision making when communities propose sculptures in the urban and public environments. Along with the policy will be a Register of Public Art for ongoing maintenance of these important cultural assets. As part of a draft Cultural Facilities & Precincts Master Plan currently under development we undertook a community survey that highlighted what residents, artists and arts groups think of the Shire’s facilities for arts and culture. The aim is to improve arts and cultural infrastructure across 4 themes, a Creative Spaces Development Plan & MPRG Redevelopment Plan; Libraries Infrastructure Development & Heritage Precincts. This will see a variety of spaces in which arts engagement and participation will be more activated for community benefit and enjoyment. The Shire’s Southern Peninsula Arts Development officer, Jo Ridgeway has been galvanising and generating a number of exciting initiatives with southern communities. Lastly, a review of the Arts & Culture Strategy - A Creative Peninsula will begin in 2015 assessing what has been achieved since launching the strategy in 2011. Is there more engagement and participation in the arts; theatre, dance, music or heritage than before the new strategy? What has been the result of activating the arts more broadly across the Peninsula? Have we raised the profile of the Peninsula as an arts destination? I’m keen to hear from residents and visitors about what you think has been successful or what hasn’t, or if you just wish to send the Shire feedback, please contact me Andrea. ROSEBUD BUSKFEST

arts

Rosebud Buskfest, on Saturday November 8, is the first of what is expected to become an annual busking competition held through the streets of Rosebud. This year 30 performers, mainly musicians, have been selected to participate, competing for the coveted first prize of $1000 cash. Playing throughout the morning from 10am – 1pm, buskers will be located outside shops and cafes all the way from Jetty Road through the town centre with another group located outside Rosebud Plaza and around the shops at the corner of Boneo Road. Throughout the morning the panel of three judges will make their decisions on the originality, talent and crowd appeal of the buskers. The judges are Michael Moss, Steve Bastoni and Ian Pav. The busking competition is the brain wave of local musician Heidi Luckhurst who has worked alongside Rosebud Chamber of Commerce to make the event a reality. Heidi said she has been blown away by the quality and variety of entries from far and wide.

There is a category for under 14’s to encourage young talent and with the main category embracing performers of a vast array of ages, both soloists and bands. The announcement of the winners will take place at the RoseGPO Hotel at 2pm on the day, with winners taking away a range of prizes including a full production package, singing lessons, performance gigs and cash, with the overall winner taking out the $1000 cash. Pictured: Georgie Roberts Georgie brought her first ukulele as a travel buddy for a two year solo trip abroad; combatting jetlag by teaching herself how to play the four-string and writing songs about her travels. Now home on the Peninsula, Georgie is currently studying a Bachelor of Contemporary Music Performance and enjoys pairing the ukulele with a harmonica and other various instruments. She believes that music is something worth sharing and aims to leave the audience with happy, positive vibes and a big smile!

Nadia Gianinotti takes to the stage in The Addams Family on stage for a limited season at Frankston Arts Centre and will be transformed into Morticia Addams in the musical adaptation. Wearing a floor-length black and purple gown, boasting a plunging neckline, Nadia is thrilled to bring to life this iconic character who is gorgeously gothic. Nadia is no stranger to the stage and has appeared in several theatre productions from Grease the musical as the sassy Cha Cha DiGregorio, in A Chorus Line as Maggie Winslow and in West Side Story as Rosalia. The production is based on the iconic characters by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, which was transformed into a TV show and a series of films. But in this musical the plot is based around young Wednesday Addams suddenly becoming a woman and falling in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. When Wednesday, the princess of darkness, is found to have a ‘normal’ boyfriend though, her parents Gomez and Morticia are not happy to say the least. Nadia is enjoying the rehearsals and the process of bring the

character of Morticia to life, especially the fantastic tango scene that is her character’s trademark. The season opens with a family friendly performance at 5pm on New Years Eve and continues for a limited season. Don’t miss the chance to see this new and kooky and spooky musical when PLOS Musical Productions brings it to Frankston. Tickets www.plos.asn.au or 9784 1060.

Zulu Influence A local artist’s personal experiences have been the inspiration behind her most recent solo exhibition at Cube 37 in Frankston. South African born Nicoleen Agnello works under the name of Insingane – the childhood nickname given to her by her Zulu nanny meaning ‘sweetheart’. Nicoleen said: “The beginning of my journey was the end of something else. I found myself having suffered my second miscarriage and hospitalised with depression. This was a moment of reflection which caused me to pause and take stock of my life. “Throughout my career as a multi award winning art director, I was always in charge of my journey. Now I felt powerless. I was searching for something to take my mind off things and I saw a call for entry to Frankston Art Centre’s open exhibition and seized the escapism it offered me. “The theme was Infinite Space. My interpretation a dark figure swimming naked at night. ‘Tonight I float in a sea of stars, in infinite space’. Not knowing which way was up, for the first time in my life I was simply being. To my immense surprise my painting was awarded the People’s Choice Award, and the prize was a solo exhibition of my very own. “Now a year and a half later with a beautiful baby girl, I was ready to exhibit the fruits of my labour. I named the exhibition ‘Detritus’, as I used the artwork to explore dark universal themes of depression and loss. I wanted to confront my past and rid myself of the painful shrapnel memories I felt were stuck inside me so I could move on.” Using large format highly textured acrylics mixed with beach sand and tribal sgraffito

prints, Nicoleen conveys thoughts and emotion through expressive use of colour. ‘Detritus’ was the platform for 20 contemporary pieces, half of which were acrylic paintings on wood and canvas and half graphic limited edition sgraffito prints, the latter being influenced by her South African childhood and the Zulu tribal crafts she grew up with. “I was thrilled to sell 6 pieces from the collection, but the best part of the experience for me was to have a number of people thank me for being brave enough to discuss depression and to have them feel such a connection to my work that they were able to talk about their own feelings with me.” Nicoleen is passionate about arts and creativity, especially in the bayside and Mornington Peninsula area. As we mature, untreated bite problems can continue to worsen. Crowded teeth can be very difficult to clean and may result in tooth decay, gum disease and be a disadvantage socially. Also, over a period of time, an incorrect bite may lead to abnormal wear or breakdown of tooth surfaces and to damage of the bone and soft tissues that support the teeth. At Hanks Orthodontics, we provide extensive education for patients in terms of proper tooth brushing and flossing techniques, and encourage good eating, which together can lead to a positive difference in health. We also talk to our

patients and recommend a product called Juice Plus + ÂŽ, which has been shown to improve health and well being. Juice Plus + ÂŽ is whole food based nutrition, which takes 25 fruits, vegetables and grains and packs them into a capsule. With over 30 independent, randomized, placebocontrolled clinical trials proving the efficacy of Juice Plus+ on over 2500 people of all ages, it is the most researched nutritional supplement in the world. Orthodontic treatment can benefit adults as well as children because healthy teeth, bones and guns respond well to orthodontic treatment at almost any age. A smile can tell a thousand words. It exhibits amusement and happiness, can build rapport with others and communicate a welcoming message. Once our teeth are revealed in a smile, we are communicating positively and powerfully. THE ANCIENT ART OF HEALING AND LUXURY IN MORNINGTON Suriya Lotus Spa at Ground Floor 3/ 211 Main St is Mornington’s premier Thai luxury spa and the therapies are based on the ancient Thai and Aryurvedic Healing Principles. The Spa offers heavenly healing body massages and treatments, pampering beauty treatments, rejuvenating organic body scrubs and facials including the famous Thai gold facial therapy. All of which will leave you feeling and looking younger with an increased sense of wellbeing, mental calm and positivity. Spring is here and our bodies have woken from the winter months with a zest of new energy for new beginnings. This is the time for getting back into shape and rejuvenating our health and fitness. An essential component for our reborn fitness regime is regular therapeutic massage which helps us manage the rigors of exercise and also the stress the changeable weather has on our muscles and joints. Two massage treatments in particular have their roots in ancient tradition and have been proven for thousands of years to return health and wellbeing because they take into account the whole physiology not just a symptomatic approach. The first of these is the Traditional Thai Massage or Yoga Massage: The founder of Thai Massage is said to have been Jivaka, the Buddha’s physician in ancient India around 500 BC and since that time it made its way to Thailand drawing on the traditional healing methods of India,

China and South East Asia. Using rhythmic pressure on the Sen or energy lines it has also drawn on yoga postures for its stretching techniques. Traditionally you wear loose yoga clothes supplied and the massage is done on large massage beds. The benefits are many; relaxation, reduced stress, improved circulation, detoxification, flexibility and motion, calms the spirit and balances mind and body and energises. Followed by a calming Thai herbal tea you will feel supple and relaxed. The second technique is a Thai Oil massage that works gently through Sen lines of the whole body to rejuvenate and relax the body and mind. This massage is designed to eliminate blockages caused by tension in the body and allow your energy and blood circulation to flow freely. Followed by a cleansing shower and Thai herbal tea you will feel re-energised and stress-free. The staff have many years experience in the ancient art of Thai healing and will use such methods as these massages and hot herbal compresses to relieve your aches and pains. Whatever your treatment, whether it be a relaxing or deep tissue massage, or a skin rejuvenation treatment, you will leave feeling more in harmony and have a deeper sense of well being. Chores can be fun. Seriously it is time to focus on your daily habits, all of the little things that you do or don’t do. These need to come under the microscope with a view to cleaning up your act. Opportunities exist now for you to do all of the little chores that you have been putting off.

Your family – small or large - is highlighted during November. If you have a warm and loving family then you are likely to enjoy this month. Your home is a source of comfort and delight. You may redecorate, renovate or even plan a new home. A visitor may also bring pleasurable moments.

Virgo

Money matters are still likely to playing on your mind during November. You may be making plans now that are likely to boost your coffers later. Once again the question is: “Is your income covering your expenses?” This is an ideal month during which to employ your marketing and communication skills.

It is not unusual for Librans to be in two minds about something. You usually try to balance two opposing forces. This month your balancing act extends to your personal finances. You would like to spend money on objects of pleasure, but there is also something that demands a tight budget.

Scorpio

Once a year the Sun returns to your Zodiac Sign and on your birthday it returns to the exact position of your Sun. In astrology this heralds a new year and an opportunity to start anew in one or more areas of life. The first few weeks of November are therefore the ideal time to reflect on renewal.

Sagittarius

November is a month of contrast. On the one hand you are cheerful, ever ready as usual to cheer up other people and add a festive note to any event. However, on the other hand you also need to withdraw from society and contemplate your own hopes, dreams and wishes. Foreign countries also play a role.

Capricorn

Business associates and professional networks can play an important role in your life during November. You may also take on a responsible role in a group or club, perhaps as an office bearer or committee member. Connections made now can be long-lasting.

The PGPS Survey is conducted annually asking patients a number of questions about their hospital stay including the clinical management of their condition, rooms, meals, admission and discharge. The hospital’s average inpatient score of 88.4 from 92 inpatients who responded placed the hospital in the 99th percentile when benchmarked against other private rehabilitation hospitals. The results of the 2013 Australian Council of Healthcare clinical indicators showed that 99.2% of their patients return to accommodation equal to or greater than pre-episode accommodation. This is 19.3% greater than the national average of 79.9% and 14% greater than the benchmark group average of 85.2%. The Australian Rehabilitation Outcome Centre (AROC) manages the collection and reporting of Functional Improvement Measures (FIM) across all Australian rehabilitation hospitals. FASHION FITS WITH FAMILY As a mum of two kids under 4 years old, one with special needs, I couldn’t exactly tackle a normal 9-5 job! I needed something where I could work majority from home, and work at flexible times that fit around my kids. I was always interested in fashion when I worked as a model in my younger days, so not long after the birth of my daughter Izabella I created Bettie’s Boutique, a store which had clothing that flattered every shape and size. Bettie’s Boutique was a hit when I had the shop in Mornington with its

affordable prices with top quality fabrics which really flatter the silhouette. Still available online at www.bettiesboutique. com.au or via appointment enquiries@ bettiesboutique.com.au you will be seeing us back in store in a new location next year! I have also created my own label La Bella Couture and have dressed a number of celebrities including Delta Goodrem, Angela Kennedy, Kelebek and Fatai. La Bella Couture is hand made couture and ready to wear clothing, made here in Australia, and will

be available on the Bettie’s site! You can find it on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ labellahautecouture and arrange an appointment on 0413 820 227. It just landed the cover of a NY fashion magazine and I have also just been crowned as this years Mrs Australia Globe, competing in China so you will be seeing plenty more from me! FILTHY UNDERWEAR Filthy Underwear began as I continued to struggle to find good quality, comfortable and affordable men’s underwear for my three boys and husband. I was tired of paying way too much for underwear that fell apart, lost its shape or became threadbare after a few wears and washes, and my three boys were constantly complaining about the fit and comfort of their undies. So after lots of consulting with the boys we developed our own design of underwear with

comfort, quality and price as the priorities. Our underwear is made from high quality cotton/ elastane with a wider waistband, it won’t ride up and, we think, most importantly, there is extra room in the front for extra comfort. It’s been a bit tricky getting the undies out into the marketplace, but I have had great feedback from my customers and many, many repeat orders, which is very encouraging. I hope to get another three colours shortly. That’s been

another tricky thing, dealing with the manufacturer by email only and trying to get across the specifics of what I want. At this stage I have 2 colours, black/red and grey/silver with more colours to come and a plan to branch out into workout wear. I can be contacted anytime at jenniewestney@hotmail.com Jennie Westney Filthy Underwear www.facebook.com/ filthyunderwear or instagram: filthyunderwear

STAY AT HOME & A FULL-TIME INCOME I am a proud mum of two beautiful boys Oliver, three and Miller, 3 months. I had worked in the corporate world for 10 years and after a year off on maternity leave, I struggled with the idea of leaving my son Oliver to go back to full time work. Around this time I was invited to an Intimo gathering. I love Intimo, and was excited about a fun night with the girls. “I went to buy a bra & came away with a business.” In August 2012 I launched my own Intimo Lingerie business and haven’t looked back! In the 1st year I received ‘The Intimo New Business Owner Award’. NOVEMBER 2014 (37)

Two years on and my business is flourishing with extremely loyal hostesses, customers, and a team of more than 20 inspiring women. My dedication to providing the best bra fitting experience has been rewarded multiple times by Intimo, with overseas all expense paid 5 star holidays! “For doing a job, I absolutely love!” With Intimo I have the flexibility to be a stay at home mum, on a full time PLUS income! There is no glass ceiling! Intimo is not just a bra company, we have our Intimo Aware program which has 3 focuses, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS (DOMESTIC

VIOLENCE), BREAST CARE & HEALTH and our UPLIFT PROJECT. This is a company that gives back!!! What I am most passionate about, is sharing the Intimo opportunity with as many women as I can. Please contact me for a chat to hear how Intimo can fit into your life! Would you love some extra cash for Christmas? I have 3 loan kits available, that means NO initial investment cost! It’s fair to say that children who participate in sport from a young age learn about life skills without even knowing it. Trust, co-ordination, respect and spirit are all high on the list of attributes that make a great team and it puts smiles on faces when children – even as young as two - gain such selfconfidence simply by getting that first goal! Playball Peninsula North is a fun and active sports program run by Sheryl Hood in Mt Eliza, Mornington and at a number of childcare centres on the Peninsula. The scheme introduces children between the ages of 2-8 years to the world of sport in a friendly and warm environment while learning valuable life skills in an approach to early childhood development. The Peninsula North Coaching Team runs exciting and vibrant classes to ensure that a child’s early experience of sport is a happy and positive one. EGGS FRESH FROM THE FARM Children never cease to be amazed by a farmyard environment. And at Somerville Egg Farm, the grandchildren of owners, Luigi and Maria Napolitano, take a real hands-on approach in the running of the business! The couple has been producing fresh eggs on the peninsula since 1978. Daughters Linda and Anita now share the running of the farm and grandchildren, Angus, William, Ruby, Stella and Harry are often seen serving customers at the busy barn door that is open six days a week. That’s when they’re not helping to look after the freerange hens, maremma dogs and alpacas. The family, together with the loyal, hardworking staff, produce the best free-range, barn-laid and cage eggs. Everyone is welcome to go along and see the chickens in their natural surroundings and buy truly farm-fresh eggs with lovely golden yolks. You will also be impressed with the competitive prices. Chicken manure, by the bag or trailer-load, is also available. Conveniently located off Peninsula Link and the Moorooduc Highway, on the corner of Eramosa Road West and Binnak Way, enter off the second driveway on the right hand side of Binnak Way. Shop hours: 8am-4.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am-12.30pm Saturday. Call 5977 5405 or email admin@somervilleeggfarm.com.au for further information and wholesale enquiries.

SWEET SENSATIONS Just walking into this Rosebud shop will put a smile on the faces of those entering… Family owned and operated, Peninsula Fudge has been creating artisan fudges and soft nougats since 2008. All from its petite shop at 13 Newington Avenue – an Aladdin’s Cave of all things rich, sugary and just completely divine. Producing their high quality hand made products, Peninsula Fudge uses only the highest standard of quality ingredients, including local seasonal produce such as honey, strawberries, blueberries and fruit juices, whilst also being sweet on customer service and satisfaction. The fudge is stocked at a number of local retailers, the list of which appears on the company’s website. And how good is the fact

that they sell gift vouchers of $20, $30 and $50 – perfect to give as unique gifts to loved ones this Christmas. Hamper Yourself at The Peninsula Gourmet Emporium How good can food get? Well it just got better at The Peninsula Gourmet Emporium in Boundary Road Dromana. This ‘foody’ lover’s paradise stocks a vast range of artisan products from throughout the peninsula focussing on local and high quality regional produce. Why? Because there is just so much fabulous produce on our home turf. Owners Kym and Ted Smirnoff are proud supporters of peninsula product. Operating for the last seven years and now offering organised tastings to prearranged regional tours in response to the Mornington Peninsula food movement, the Peninsula Gourmet Emporium stocks only the best lines selected by Kym who has spent years sampling and testing regional products. (The popular Café Bus and Bunyip Tours now regularly stop at this gourmet one-stopshop as part of their Mornington Peninsula experience.) So let’s talk hampers. The Peninsula Gourmet Emporium is home to Hamper Yourself (pure designer hamper heaven.) Client’s choose from a selection of gourmet delights and seductive spa product to create a specialised hamper, (including packaging and design), that will rival anything you’ve seen before. Come in store or choose online - Hamper Yourself delivers. Or why not

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a difference. Blue Bay’s new range of vintage cheddar is testament to this theory. Blue Bay Cheese is produced with just the right amount of everything. Imagine naturally aged cheddar combined with a selection of subtle, but flavour full complimentary tastes to create an innovative range of scrumptious vintage cheddar cheese. Delicious! Zest is best at Blue Bay. Some of the profiles included in this fresh range have never been seen before, yet because Blue Bay knows cheese, the result has been spot on. Think citrus and ginger, Szechuan and chilli, or traditional natural smoke (or plain cheese). ‘Many of the flavoured cheeses on the market are made with cheese of inferior quality. Supermarkets are flooded with mass produced cheddars and tasty cheese. Properly aged cheddars, where the flavours are allowed to

develop to their full potential are hard to find’, explains Blue Bay’s principal cheese maker Andre. ‘True cheddar should have a wellrounded and complex flavour with a hint of sharpness. Allowing the cheddar to age and develop intensifies these flavours turning it into something really special’, he continues. Blue Bay’s flavoured cheddars have already been a sell out at markets across the peninsula. Andre goes on; ‘Our customers just love it and keep coming back for more. It has been our most successful product launch to date.’ Some more cheese please… Blue Bay Cheese 6 Latham St, Mornington P: 5976 4999 Open Thursday and Friday 9am ‘til 5pm, Saturdays 9am ‘til 2pm www.bluebaycheese.com

FRESH ORGANIC PRODUCE Some of us have green fingers. Some of us don’t. But you can be rest assured that Tash and Wayne from Peninsula Fresh Organics have digits that even Shrek would be envious of… Growing their own certified organic (ACO 1361) produce on their farm in Baxter, their business is divided into two different services - Organic Farm and Farmer’s Markets. And just knowing the integrity of their produce makes it taste so much better. The team at Peninsula Fresh Organic work hard to achieve and maintain organic certification and their farm gate produce is predominantly their own - grown right outside their shop, picked fresh on the day of selling. Farm gate sales operate every Friday between 8am and 6pm, Saturdays 8am-2pm and Monday 9am until 3pm and are a great way to buy your organic fresh produce, often a whole lot less expensive than other sources too. They also supply a number of co-operatives around Melbourne and Greater Melbourne, taking their top of the range fresh organic seasonal boxes all over Victoria – giving everyone a chance to have a taste of the Peninsula. And they have most markets well and truly covered. Just a quick visit to their website at www.peninsulafresh.com will give you an overview of where they will be and they are happy to take pre-orders for fruit and vegetables that are high in demand. ICONIC DINING DESTINATION

Katrina and Scott Devery are a local couple who own and operate Mornington’s newest eatery, ‘About Thyme’.

A new restaurant has recently opened on Tanti Avenue in Mornington. Eighteen78, located within BEST WESTERN PLUS Brooklands of Mornington is set in one of the town’s oldest buildings. Aptly named after the year the original homestead was built (1878) the restaurant offers a blend of relaxed dining and quality service.

Tucked away at 10 Blake Street, this gem of a café/ restaurant is fast becoming the talk of the town with its fantastic service and refreshingly different menu. Whether it’s grabbing an Alpress takeaway coffee on the way to work or a full blown sit down dinner, About Thyme really does have it all. The food on offer is a mix of flavours influenced by Scott’s European background and a glance at the menu mirrors this. Tatsutage Crispy Chicken in Lettuce Cups with Apple Beanshoots and Miso Mayo, Confit of Duck Leg with Red Wine Risotto and Honey Jasmine Jus or Cashew Kofta Balls in Coconut Curry with Basmati Rice and Chickpea Spinach Salad are just a few of the delicious sounding dishes on the menu. The hardest thing you have to do is choose one. But if you’re struggling, About Thyme are big on sharing and many dishes are made to do just this. Internationals here for the wine!

THE MARINA HASTINGS A HIT WITH QUALITY AND VALUE

Mornington Peninsula Vignerons welcomed ten international trade and media guests as part of a Wine Australia regional visit that showcased the quality, diversity, provenance and personality of our Mornington Peninsula wines.

Situated at the boat harbour at Western Port Marina, the Marina Restaurant and Lounge Bar is an ideal place to meet with friends for a dinner date, drop in for a drink and a snack or celebrate with a party or event. The Marina Restaurant offers an extensive menu, featuring fresh seafood, locally sourced ingredients and modern presentation, and is fast becoming known across the Mornington Peninsula for quality and value. Most meals are gluten free and other special dietary requirements can be catered for. Current owners Christine & Ian Pontin bring to the Marina Restaurant over 40 years of hospitality industry experience, Christine and her front of house team aim to provide excellent customer service, including full table service, while Executive Chef Ian oversees the kitchen. The Marina Restaurant specialises in weddings and events in the lovely Lady Nelson Room, a stylish function room ideally situated overlooking the boat harbour.

As one of the larger venues on Mornington Peninsula, the venue can seat up to 130, or cater to 250 guests for a cocktail party. As the Marina Restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from the Tyabb Packing House, 10 minutes from the Red Hill Dairy and the Cerberus Navy Base, and right next door to the Dolphin Research Centre at the beautiful Westernport Marina, it is perfectly placed to cater for both day or evening tours to the area. There is ample parking for cars and buses, and the restaurant has disabled access and disabled toilet facilities making it an excellent venue for Seniors Groups. Book a table in the restaurant for lunch or dinner, seniors and large bookings are welcome. Enjoy the warm cosy fire in the bistro when it’s chilly, or dine outside in the sunny courtyard when it’s warm, and enjoy good food, attentive service, hand-picked regional wines, great coffee and nice views. www.marinarestaurant.com.au Phone 5979 3699

The visit was a fantastic way to show a group of ten UK and European wine industry people what the Mornington Peninsula has to offer. The guests included wine writers from the UK, Poland and Norway; Independent retailers, sommeliers & the Young Wine Writer of the Year from the UK, WSET Scholarship Winners and wine consultants from Ireland & Finland. Cheryl Lee, Executive Officer from MPVA explains “It was a beautifully mild sunny day, we started with 2012 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir tasting at Moorooduc Estate with 6 wines and winemakers. This was followed by visits to Kooyong Winery, Stonier, Ocean Eight, Port Phillip Estate, a special lunch in the winery at Paringa Estate and dinner finale at Ten Minutes by Tractor - plus a quick trip to Arthurs Seat to gain perspective of our proximity to Melbourne.” Wine Australia’s Aaron Brasher says bringing influential international wine professionals to the region is the best way to tell the Australian wine story. “We know that driving advocacy is most effective when you can give someone a true brand experience and what better way to do that than get our guests in the heart of Mornington Peninsula, meeting the winemakers behind the wines and hearing the stories behind these brands first hand. “It’s our hope that not only can we influence global perceptions of Australian wine in key export markets but that when they return home they’ll have a love and appreciation for Aussie wine that will encourage them to share that experience within their own networks

whether it’s with family and friends, their customers or their readers.” With forty years of experience Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are now considered particularly suited to the region and provide the clearest voice of each vineyard’s unique character, or its terroir. Small differences in aspect, elevation, soils and microclimate each contribute to the varied and fascinating character of wine, which makes Mornington Peninsula one of the best and most interesting wine regions in Australia. Over 50% of the plantings in the region are Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Gris/Grigio, and a diverse range of other varieties with Shiraz being perhaps the most significant. This season celebrate being a local with one of the fabulous wines produced on our Peninsula.

Meet with friends for a dinner date Drop in for a drink and a snack Celebrate with a party or event Quality and value Locally sourced ingredients Seniors & large bookings are welcome Enjoy good food, attentive service, hand-picked regional wines, great coffee & nice views.

The team of experts at Lifestiles Studio in Mornington approach design differently. They push creative boundaries while respecting the longevity of classical design principles. This means you get practical yet aesthetic solutions that enhance the way you live. It’s all about the creation of beauty. Lifestiles Studio transports you to a world where building and interior design merge with civil engineering and thermal performance know how to create an innovative hub where clients can access all things inspirational. They know how to make space look great, but also understand that beautiful interior design springs from a clear understanding of how construction works; put simply, beauty and functionality go hand in hand. Director Ali Perry talks; ‘We can help interpret the needs of an individual or commercial buyer. Whether it’s a renovation or new build our staff can guide and inspire. We can get the job done with or without a brief’, and because they have strong links with the peninsula’s top architects, builders and designers Lifestiles Studio also offers expert advice across the design spectrum. ‘We are a one stop creative space that can maximise your renovation design and fit out and are always on the lookout for experienced design innovators to join our network of first class designers.’

Lifestiles Studio is renowned for their vast range of tiles which are sourced from around the globe. ‘Our contemporary industrial style tile gallery is complemented by practical advice, fabulous displays and information on fitting and aftercare. We select our tiles for their quality, functionality and aesthetic appeal, but they don’t have to cost the earth. They can be used as a simple and elegant feature using colour, texture and depth,’ says Ali. ‘We know how to get the maximum look for the most cost effective price!’ So if you are looking for unique tiles sourced by designers that understand the needs of their diverse client base, then visit Lifestiles Studio – a gem on the peninsula. by Liz Rogers Lifestiles Design Studio 4/5 Torca Terrace, Mornington 5976 3507 0437 748 862 www.lifestilesdesignstudio.com.au sales@lifestilessds.com.au

With the heat of summer just around the corner and soil temperatures steadily increasing, you would be well placed to have the bulk of your warm season vegetables already planted out and growing strongly. But for those who are still getting prepared to plant be assured it is by no means too late! Crops that enjoy the warmer soil such as tomatoes, chili and capsicum will likely catch to those planted earlier, while pumpkins, cucumber, watermelon, corn and eggplant are all going to fruit just fine if they are planted in the next month or so. And of course the year-rounders like salad greens, herbs and many root crops will be happy to go in now. It is important though at this time of the year to make sure you plant your vegetables carefully. Many home gardeners plant their newly purchased seedlings a little too shallow meaning that the roots of the plant are more susceptible to high heat and low moisture conditions. Ensure that the soil level of your seedling is at the very least the same level in the soil as it was in the pot or seedling tray, though it is preferable to plant below this level. Most of your annual vegetables can be planted up to their first set of leaves, while members of the tomato family (chili, eggplant, capsicum, etc.) can be planted even deeper, covering those first sets of leaves. This will not only protect the roots from heat and moisture stress, but will provide more stability and root growth for the plant. Just as critical at this time of year is to cover the entire soil surface with a thick layer of

mulch to prevent water loss and sun exposure on the soil surface. Locally grown mulches such as lucerne or pea-straw work very well, while some people prefer to use sugar-cane mulch for its ease of use. Whatever you use though put a good 75-100mm thick layer on, as it will soon compact and start to break down. And if you are using drip irrigation to water your beds, you will lay and pin this down prior to putting down your mulch. Staking many of your warm season vegetables is also important. Put a solid stake in at time of planting so you don’t damage any roots by banging a stake in once the plant is mature. And it is always a good idea to put in a stake twice as big as you think you need. Most home gardeners find that their plants quickly out-grow their stakes. It’s much easier to plan before hand than to adjust later. The same goes with trellising. Unless you already have some on hand, don’t be sucked in to buying any flimsy plastic trellising, chick wire or treated pine lattice. They will all fail your plants and make your crop difficult to manage. Use something solid that will last you many years like steel mesh. It will be well worth it. Hopefully we will get a good growing season this year and may your crops produce enough for you and your family.

Happy gardening. Drew Cooper Edible Gardens ediblegardens.com.au

PORTOBELLO HOME

When your vacuum cleaner becomes inefficient in picking up, you only have to inspect its filter to know where lies your problem. But what happens when you have a ducted cleaning system? Exactly the same! John Barro has been the owner/operator of Tile Duct Carpet Cleaning for more than 22 years and has just moved to the Peninsula, bringing his wealth of cleaning experience with him. Having served the suburbs of Melbourne Metro for many years, John has made the move to Safety Beach and is keen to introduce his services to the Peninsula and its people. John built his business by cleaning carpets and upholstery and later introduced the cleaning of ducts and tiles. He personally services his clients, with no sub-contractors or franchisees, and provides a service that’s second to none. He said: “If you’re considering cleaning your ducted heating system, it’s important to realise that up to 90% of the dust (made up of dust mites, pollens, germs and fungi) is located in the air return ducting and heater interior. The dust and germs stored here breed and multiply and lay ready and waiting to blow themselves around your home for you to breathe in.”

And as for the carpets where all that lays in wait…. John combats it using a restorative 7-step process with separate wash, rinse and dry cycles. His method is different to all others – the wash cycle softens deep down dirt and sticky residues and the rinse cycle removes them together with the cleaning solutions. Carpets stay cleaner for longer with this method and it is regarded as the most thorough way to clean carpets. Moving over to the tile cleaning section of the business, John’s specialist equipment leaves clients astounded at how years of built up grime and dirt is removed. More in depth information on all three sections of (Peninsula) Tile Duct Carpet Cleaning can be viewed on the company website at www.tileductcarpetcleaning.com. au Call 0404 326 595 or email info@tileductcarpetcleaning.com.au www.mpmag.com.au

Antiques and Collectables offer a large dose of style, history and je ne sais quoi. This treasure trove of eighteenth century onwards furniture oozes charm and character. Rare antique and vintage French oak armoires (perfect for television cabinets), dressers, sideboards, chairs, tables, arm chairs, chandeliers and more, come together to tell of days gone by. Diane began collecting antiques when her daughter Nicole was a baby. Now Nicole, Diane and Ken concentrate on genuine French pieces. They are a trigenerational business (naming the business after Nicole’s daughter Bailey). Nicole says; ‘Our clients know they can find great individual pieces at very competitive prices, and film and television production companies seek us out on a regular basis. You’ve probably seen some of our stock on your screens without knowing it!’ So what will you find? Knock down armoires (they used to ‘flat pack’ these beautiful pieces of furniture to get them through the doors of tiny cottages and some were carved by fathers to give as part of the daughter’s dowry), Lit-Clos (enclosed beds from Brittany) which now work beautifully as bookcases, French Louis XV parlour chairs or gorgeous display cabinets and bookcases. Get ready to spring into swimming!

After a record mild winter in many parts of the country, the backyard pool is beckoning and it’s time to get it swim ready for the warmer months. Pool and spa specialist Swimart Mornington has some top tips to ensure your swimming pool is clean, clear and sparkling for the first dip of the season. “After winter, your swimming pool will likely be in need of some TLC to get it back into shape,” says Campbell Jennings from Swimart Mornington. “We can help turn your pool from green to clean and take the task of pool and spa care off your ‘to do’ list. “Heavy rain – which often occurs in winter – dilutes pool chemicals, especially salt and chlorine, which makes the pool turn green. So the first step is to bring a pool water sample into our store to check the health of your pool. This will reveal whether you need to adjust the pH, calcium and total alkaline levels.” Swimart provides a free-of-charge service where your pool water sample is analysed in a computerised system for an exact reading so you can learn how to bring it back to pristine, safe swimming levels. Swimart’s general pool maintenance tips for spring and summer: • Bump up the pool filter running hours from four to eight hours a day • Regularly check sanitiser levels, ideally on a daily basis • Check the pH every two days

•C heck the Total Alkalinity (TA) weekly •C heck and clean the skimmer basket and hair and lint pot basket weekly •T horoughly clean the pool and vacuum the walls and floor •C heck the pump is working properly and organise a full pool equipment service by a licensed pool and spa technician •C heck or replace fittings and check for leaks •C heck your filter and change the running mode from winter to summer Whether you need expert advice and knowledge, or someone to regularly clean and maintain your pool, Swimart Mornington has the skills and expertise to assist. Swimart is located in Shop D3, Peninsula Homemaker Centre, 1128-1132 Nepean Highway, Mornington. Enquiries call 5976 4334 or email us on mornington@swimart.com.au.

One of the things we love about living on the Peninsula is that feeling you get when the first days of warm weather arrive and you know Summer is on it’s way. Like many people at this time of year, you’ve probably been looking at your outdoor space and need a little inspiration or a quick make-over! It’s easy to feel inspired when there are many beautiful colours, fabrics and styles available at moment. Spaces can be freshened up simply and cost effectively with some new cushions, an outdoor rug or coloured pots to add a dash of colour. Outdoor screens are an easy way to create privacy while entertaining outdoors or simply to beautify a space or outdoor room. Luxe Outdoor Living have a new, and now larger range of DIY ready-to-install steel screens. These are available in 9 gorgeous designs, are easy to install and are suitable for both indoor or outdoor use. If you are in the market for a new range of outdoor furniture, Luxe can source beautiful and different outdoor pieces to match your budget using their vast supplier network. Owners Donna and Rebecca explain “We also custom-make both indoor and outdoor furniture as well as custom-make and re-upholster cushions, bench seats and day beds in a range of quality outdoor fabrics from as little as $30 per metre.” And during November they are offering 10% off any purchase of 2 or more screens if you mention Mornington Peninsula Magazine.
