11 Sussex Printing wins State Chamber Award
The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Alliance has granted Sussex Printing Corporation an Award of Excellence as part of its 2009 Superstars in Business Awards. The awards honor businesses and nonprofit corporations for outstanding achievements and model approaches to business and management. Sussex Printing Corporation operates a fullservice, commercial printing company and publishes two weekly advertising publications, The Guide East and The Maryland Guide. The publications focus on advertising and are widely distributed throughout Delmarva, reaching over 225,000 readers every week. In addition, SPC publishes an online version, TheGuide.com. SPC is owned by Timothy E. Ayers of Lewes and his daughter, Amy Ayers Higgins of Seaford. 2009 is Sussex Printing Corp.’s 50th year in business. The company began in 1959 in Seaford, when Layton Ayers, father and grandfather of its current owners, had the inspiration to print promotional flyers to distribute in retailers’ shopping bags. The idea was quickly expanded into a digest sized publication promoting events, businesses and private sales which was called “The Sussex Guide.” When its distribution and readership grew to reach all of Delmarva, the name was changed to “The Guide.”
