Laurel’s Bryce Bristow receives Casey Lynch Leadership Award Bryce Bristow, who played quarterback for the 2009 Laurel Midget football team, was presented with the 2009/2010 Casey Lynch Leadership Award on Sunday, January 31 during the Henlopen Conference Banquet at the Fountains in Salisbury. Bryce has played for Laurel Pop Warner since he was seven years old. The Henlopen Pop Warner Football League awards a Midget Football Player the Casey Lynch Award annually. Casey was a 13-year-old quarterback of the 1991 Delmar Midget Wildcats who died on the Delmar football field while playing the Woodbridge Blue Raiders with 17 seconds

Laurel girls’ basketball team earns home win over Lake Forest
The Laurel varsity girls’ basketball team cruised to a 69-38 win over Lake Forest last Thursday in Laurel. Senior Tomorrow Briddell led the way with 24 points, Mariah Dickerson had 12, and Daneka Dixon added 10 points. Brooke Evans also tallied nine points in the Bulldogs’ win.

Every football player in the Henlopen Pop Warner Football League is eligible for this award. Criteria for this award include outstanding leadership on the field, in the classroom and in the community, along with above average grades in all subjects and his respect for his parents, coaches, teachers classmates and fellow teammates. Bristow is the first person from Laurel Pop Warner to be presented with the award.
Delmar Fire Company to host football fundraiser Feb. 15 A fundraiser for the players and coaches from the state champion Delmar football team will take place on Monday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Delmar Firehouse. A total of 200 tickets will be pre sold on a first come first serve basis and are available at the Delmar Middle/Senior High School main office. Tickets are $7 each. The fundraiser will be an all you can eat spaghetti dinner with a silent auction for sports memorabilia and a 50/50 raffle. The food is being donated by the women and men of the Delmar Fire Department. Proceeds from the event will be used to help the Delmar players and coaches purchase their championship rings. Laurel Little League to hold signups starting Saturday The Laurel Little League will hold signups in the board room at the little league park on the following dates: Saturday, Feb. 13, 10 a.m.- noon; Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m.- noon; and Saturday, Feb. 27, 10 a.m.- noon. Boys must have been born May-December in calendar year 2004 or January-April in calendar year 2005. Girls must have been born January-December in calendar year 2004. First time players please bring a copy of your birth certificate.

Delmar boys’ basketball team falls to Polytech, 79-38 The Delmar varsity boys’ basketball team lost to Polytech, 79-38, in a road contest last Thursday. Trea Spence led the Wildcats with 12 points while Keandre Whaley added eight points.
