INNOVATIVE ONLINE INTEGRATION We at The Cougar Chronicle, are officially attempting to transition from not only being a print based source of information, but also a convenient online outreach tool. We now offer online advertising and you too can get in on the action. Read page 7 for fore info.
The Cougar Chronicle, (formally known as The Pride) is the official student newspaper and the only source of campus news at Cal State University San Marcos. We welcome you to the exiting 2012-2013 academic year. Advertising with us gives you a unique opportunity to introduce yourself to over 10,000 students and staff and establish a long-term connection within the CSUSM community. The Cougar Chronicle is now published twice a month on Wednesdays throughout the academic year. We distribute approximately 2000 free copies at 13 distribution sites across the California State University San Marcos campus and through out various student resource buildings. We dedicate ourselves to the education and the enlightenment of students as well as the campus community. We commit ourselves to uphold professional standards regarding journalism ethics and responsibility.

Inserts Full run of 1,500 is required. Cost: $1,000. Consent of inserted ads is subject to approval by the Sales Representative and the Editor-in-Chief. Inserts must be delivered to our printer seven business days prior to publication. The Cougar Chronicle will limit inserts at the Editor in Chief and Sales Representatives’ discretion. Inserts maximum size is 8.5”x 11” and minimum size is 8.5”x 5.5”

Go big or go bold? The more you advertise the bigger the discount you get.
Policies All new clients must place space reservations and send order forms via fax, e-mail or conformation by phone on or before Tuesday 5:00 p.m., eight days prior to publication. Returning clients must confirm their ads by Thursday 5:00 p.m., six days prior to publication. All ad material is due no later than Thursday, six days before publication. Late material will not be accepted. Missing the deadline will cause your ad to be rescheduled to the next available run date or cancelled. Payment in advance is required until
credit can be established. Billing is sent every two weeks after the paper has run. Tear sheets are sent out by mail a couple days after the paper is printed. Additional advertisements will not be accepted from clients whose account balances are more than 30 days past due. We only accept checks, Visa, and Master Card as forms of payment. Make all checks payable to The Cougar Chronicle and send them to the following address: The Cougar Chronicle Student Newspaper 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Rd. San Marcos, Ca. 92026-0001 Once the check has been received and processed then we can run your ad.
Ad materials Accepted artwork formats include: tiff, PDF, png and jpeg. All art work must have a resolution of at least 400 dpi and must be the correct purchase size. If art work is not at a high enough quality or the correct size, the ad may turn out blurry and may not print at the highest quality. Low dpi or the wrong dimensions may cause your ad to be rescheduled to the next available run date. The Cougar Chronicle reserves the right to put a boarder around ads if needed. The content, form size, wording, illustrations and typography of all advertisements are subject to the approval of the Editor-in-Chief. The Editor-in-Chief has the right to refuse any advertising for any reason. The advertiser and/or advertising agency assumes liability for all content of advertisements printed, and also assumes responsibility for any claims made against The Cougar Chronicle. The Cougar Chronicle will not be responsible for copy changes made past the ad copy deadline of five days prior to publication. Page placement is neither sold nor guaranteed. It is The Cougar Chronicle’s policy to not put any advertising on the front page.

Basic information At The Cougar Chronicle we print on the standard tabloid size (11� by 17�) in a six column format with a 1/4 inch border. In each issue we strive to display a clean and contemporary design relationship between our advertising material and content, making sure they both fit well together. We can print 8, 12, 16 or 20 pages depending on our content.

The Cougar Chronicle can help with creative services Advertising with us gives you a unique opportunity to introduce yourself to over 10,000 students and staff and establish a long-term connection within the CSUSM community but if you don’t have a camera ready ad that opportunity can be lost. Don’t worry we can help you! For an additional fee, our design team can create an ad that looks great and is exactly what you want. A member of our
design team will work directly with you to create an ad that you are happy with. Our team will work with you every step of the way and give you the option to add your own logos, photos, media and copy as well influence the overall design. Whether you have know ideas or an exact layout we promise to bring sophistication and appeal to your ad.
How we work A 15 day prior to publication notice must be made by phone or email. All paperwork and forms must be completed 7 days prior to publication. All logos, photos/media, copy must be received by email no later than 7 days prior to publication. The Cougar Chronicle has the right to refuse to design any ad for any reason. The Cougar Chronicle also has the right to deny photos, media, or copy for any advertisement. Accepted artwork formats include: tiff, pdf, png and jpeg. All art work must have a resolution of at least 400 dpi. The Cougar Chronicle is not responsible for low res images or artwork. The advertiser assumes liability for all content of advertisements printed, and also assumes responsibility for any claims made against The Cougar Chronicle over copy righted material. Final Proofs will be sent to confirm the design of the ad no later than 36 hours before publication. Email confirmation is needed before the advertisement can be printed. In the past we have designed for North County Transit District, Rambo tutoring, Off-Campus Books, TERI, S.D. Storage and more. 6
The bigger the ad size, the lower the fee %. Overall it’s a small price to pay to make a big impact. We only require you pay the fee once regardless of how many times you wish to publish and it also does not matter if it is in color of black and white. If an ad is designed and slight changes such as dates and copy are wanted for separate publication we can accommodate for no extra fee.
Because our website is brand new, and we are just now offering online advertising, we do not have statistics on page views, clicks and visitorship, available at this time. We are currently experimenting with various sizes but for this semester we are only offering one standard size. Be sure to check with us next semester for even more options as we continue to grow.
Want to advertise online? For the first time, The Cougar Chronicle now offers online advertising. We here at The Cougar Chronicle are officially attempting our transition to both a print and web based source of information. After nearly a decade of working on an older and inefficient web page, we decided an upgrade was needed. Our web page csusmchronicle.com is new and improved, app ready and will allow us to better connect with our students on a daily basis. Advertising on csusmchronicle.com would be the best way to reach not only the 10,000+ CSUSM students but also parents, alumni and local residents outside of our physical distribution zone.
Policies
For now, we are charging an additional $50 to your original print contract for a two week run cycle that would run issue to issue. The same time frames of the print advertising (page 3) are applied to online advertising. Simply x the box on the order form and we will work with you.
