PIONEER CHAPEL

of Reflection

At the beginning of my 2nd year at KU I knew that it was time for me to branch out. Wether that meant for me to make new friends or join any student organization, I was going to do it.

It started with a me offhandedly mentioning to Shannon Criss that I wanted to get involved in school. She suggested that I join NOMAS and put me in contact with the president of the organization. As I was filling out a member form I clicked a tiny box that meant I was interested in becoming a secretary. I thought that they would an upperclassmen for the position, but I thought “why not try?”

Lo and behold, I am now the secretary for NOMAS KU. I’ve had so many experiences such as helping with general body meetings, organizing a lecture about Indigenous cultures, and interacting with NOMA KC. I also meet so many different and amazing people along the way, which gives me new ways and paths going further into this year.

As I go further out of my comfort zone I learn about so many new concepts and ideas, broadening my horizons. My world has grown and I have so many directions I can go. I can’t wait to take these next few steps and see where it takes me!
