CONCEPT

There’s a preconcived notion that every system must be linear to work, whether that be in the form of a procession, school, life, and even the nature around us. The reality is that it’s all cyclical and I made that the core principle of this entire structure through the use of cylindrical or conical forms and materials. I fell in love with this volcanic form made up of two conical shapes leaning into each other while simultaneously reaching into the sky.

The occulus floats above the ceremonial space letting light in while letting the occupants to see into the heavens

ORIGINAL AXONOMETRIC DIAGRAM

This was my initial attempt at an axon, on page 14 you’ll see a more refined version.

PROGRAM

KU has a need for another small chapel where theres a ceremonial, seating, and private area that does not exceed 900 sf.

MODEL

1/4” = 1’ wooden model: I drilled holes into the board to secure the dowels and I made two eliptical compression rings that sat upon eachother.
