DEAR FRIENDS, At the end of each season, we are given time to reflect of that which came before and that which follows. Orchestra seasons are cyclical, and so we live with one foot in the past and one in the future. Each of our Sound Waves program books featured different quotes about the ocean. We traveled from Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, “I need the sea because it teaches me,” to our own Robinson Jeffers, “The tides are in our veins,” and the last being by poet Anne Stevenson, “The sea is as near as we come to another world.” Sitting in Sunset Center listening to the notes wash over us like waves, we are transported to that other world—and for this gentle, musical reprieve we are most grateful. I am so honored and grateful to be the Executive Director of this wonderful organization—to have the chance to meet all our patrons, get to know our fabulously talented musicians, and work tirelessly on creating fantastic concert experiences for everyone. I would like to thank each and every one of you for joining us season after season, year after year, coming back for those memorable, unforgettable musical moments. As the waves return to the sea, we move toward OVATION, a season packed with orchestral masterpieces, familiar themes, and the most certain possibility of being transported again to a celestial realm. Please consider a gift to the Symphony before our fiscal year ends on June 30, 2019.
