March 2024

New Worm Moon: On March 10, a new moon in Pisces will be called the New Worm Moon. During this time, it is recommended that you explore your spiritual side, connect with your inner self, and engage in creative ac‐tivities. You can help others feel seen and understood by forming supportive alliances and expressing empathy. Additionally, it allows you to focus your mental energy on your passions and ideas. This is a great time to pursue spiritual projects and creative pursuits.

Worm Full Moon: On March 25, a Full Moon in Libra co‐incides with a lunar eclipse. American Indians called this moon the Worm Full Moon because worms become ac‐tive during spring. The full moon in Libra creates a friendly and harmonious atmosphere, promoting empa‐thy and generating ideas. It is a time for solving problems and helping others. During this time, focus on achieving goals slowly and methodically and finding a common lan‐

guage with others. The March full moon is a romantic time for love relationships and dating, but rushing into things is not recommended. Stay healthy with a balanced diet and exercise. The March full moon reveals your true self through meditation, but the Moon in Pisces can cause insecurity.

Pisces (February 20 – March 20) — Happy birthday Pisces! It is vital to effectively communicate your thoughts and ideas during these next few days. Take the time to actively listen to others and refrain from sharing your plans until you have all the necessary information. You may make a connection with someone you en‐counter casually, so be open to the possibility and enjoy the moment. This person could potentially be a part of your future.

Aries (March 21 – April 20) — Take a break from your routine and spend quality time with your significant other. Watch a funny movie to unwind and have a good laugh. If you're feeling stagnant, plan something adven‐turous to add excitement to your life. Be a supportive partner, boost their confidence, and they'll appreciate you even more.

Taurus (April 21 – May 21) — You need to achieve fi‐nancial security and manage your fears. You notice busi‐ness trends that help you make smart investments. Creativity is the result of emotional expression. Spend more time with people who are supportive and share your values.

Gemini (May 22 – June 21) — Others perceive you as independent, but you crave appreciation. You're creative, aggressive, and impatient. Freedom is crucial to you, and clingy people make you uneasy.

Cancer (June 22 – July 22) — Putting your energy into creative pursuits is necessary. You are a sensitive person, and your friends may need your support. Make it clear to them that you are there for them. It's time to reorgan‐ize your life and make important decisions about your romantic relationships. Keep a clear mind and remember to prioritize your own needs alongside the needs of oth‐ers.

Leo (July 23 – August 23) — You focus on money and material possessions. Perhaps it's time to reconsider your values. Some uncertainty looms over you from Mon‐day to Friday, possibly because you've taken on more than you can handle. However, you can find a solution to this situation within your reach.

The Hats of Winter

As the winter winds are blowing and snow might be falling, keeping warm seems to be a continual quest when venturing outdoors. Having a warm hat on is a steady part of my winter ensemble. Depending on what I am planning to do outside, or where I am going, determines what I put on my head. If it is only cleaning snow off the car or shoveling the front steps, an old knitted, semi worn hat will do. When going to church or a nice event, the pick is still warm, yet more fash‐ionable with sparkles and a bit of pizzazz. When mak‐ing my choice recently before heading out to the supermarket, I was reminded of a charming essay my good friend Beth wrote a few years ago about hats and her observations.

The Hats of Winter

“It was the hats…that caught my attention last night. My husband, Ron, and I were going into the city for a dinner invitation at Le Bernardin, an elite French restaurant in midtown, New York City. In spite of the frigid weather we stuck to our usual habit of tak‐ing the train into Manhattan from Metro Park in Edi‐son. To say it was cold outside was an understatement. Reportedly, it happened to be THE coldest day of the winter thus far. It was the type of weather that goes right through your clothing, no matter how many lay‐ers. It was raw and bone chilling. To make matters worse (and more uncomfortable), we were going into the city at 5PM when the sun no longer shone to give even a hint of warmth. Officially, the wind chill factor brought the temperature down to a minus 6 degrees! Given this statistic, it’s no surprise that everyone along our route, be it at the train station, on the train, or walking Manhattan’s streets, was bundled up, and most sensibly, wearing a hat. It was precisely these hats that caught my attention. For not only was every‐one wearing one, but there was an incredible variety of what appeared to be hand stitched, knitted or cro‐cheted caps and tams, etc. While it made perfect sense that folks should be bundled up against the cold, it was the type and form that got me thinking. Unlike their coats, which were of predominantly dark hues, the hats were made of every color and pattern AND, most strikingly, so very many appeared to be handmade. Perhaps it’s the romantic in me, but I imagined them being knitted by sweethearts or lovers (like my son Dan’s was by his girlfriend Renee) or by wives or grandmothers for sons, daughters, grandsons or by wives for their hubbies. In any case, I thought beyond the cold night to the warmth meant for each of these city people. These folks who passed me by so anony‐mously sporting these gestures/gifts from their loved ones…sent out into the night. With these warm and very real reminders (as we are sent every Sunday after church)...with these little blessings upon their heads.”

March’s “Worm Moon”

The full Worm Moon reaches its peak in the morning hours of Monday, March 25. Look for it to rise after sunset on both Sunday and Monday! What is a Worm Moon? Here are the real meaning and origins of March’s full Moon—and when you can see this Moon at its brightest!

The first full moon of the spring season will appear on the nights of Sunday, March 24, and Monday, March 25. Specifically, March’s full Worm Moon reaches peak illumination at 3:00 A.M. ET on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Of course, you don’t have to wait until the middle of the night to see the Moon! Look for the spectacularly bright Moon as it rises above the horizon on Sunday evening. If your weather is poor on Sunday night, try again on Monday!

If you have just a bit of rain on either of these nights, you may even get to spot a rare phenomenon called a moonbow. A moonbow is just like a solar rainbow but is created by moonlight (rather than sunlight) when it is refracted through water droplets in the air. Moonbows only happen when the full Moon is fairly low in the sky, so look for one in the hours after sunset when the sky is dark.

This March Moon will look especially large to us when it’s near the horizon because of the “Moon illusion,” which is when it looks bigger when near comparative objects than it does when it’s high in the sky without any references.

Why Is It Called the Worm Moon? The full Moon names come from a number of places, including Native American, Colonial American, and European sources. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred, not only to the full Moon.

Astrology Outlook...

Continued from Page 9

Virgo (August 24 – September 22) — It would be help‐ful for you to vary your calendar over the next few days. Even though you are enthusiastic, you may think that you don't need help. When in reality, you could benefit from some assistance. It's critical to not shut yourself off from your friends and loved ones, as they support you through good and bad times. If your relationships feel unstable, it may be worth considering investing more time and ef‐fort into them. Remember, emotions are powerful and can impact you more than you may realize.

Libra (September 23 – October 22) — Romantic rela‐tionships can be intense and alluring, yet, at times, elu‐sive. You may have suppressed your genuine emotions, so try to express them openly. Be open to new opportu‐nities and connections, as they can broaden your hori‐zons. Make sure to harness your imagination and let it guide you. Don't avoid unexpected invitations and social events; embrace them and enjoy the experience.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) — Your col‐leagues and clients seem impressed with your passionate style. This is the perfect opportunity to make the most of it and enjoy the benefits before the novelty disappears. Your wit and intuition will impress someone, and you may even start a new relationship by the end of the week. Be careful not to reveal too much of yourself until you know who you're dealing with.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 22) — To achieve your goals, you may need to make compromises that fall within an acceptable range of options. Try to be cautious when dealing with authority figures to avoid discomfort in your relationships.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 20) — Remember to complete all ongoing projects before taking on new ones so you don't overextend yourself. Observe your coworkers' work habits more closely to identify possible areas for improvement and discuss new strategies to‐gether when the time is right. If you encounter a dishon‐est person at work, inform upper management.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 19) — Please avoid making choices that might lead to confusion or misun‐derstandings. There's a possibility of an unforeseen event that could leave you feeling stressed out. You may receive attention from several admirers, but it's best not to rush into any decisions. Take a wait‐and‐see approach for now.

March’s full Moon goes by the name Worm Moon. For many years, we thought this name referred to the earthworms that appear as the soil warms in spring. This invites robins and other birds to feed—a true sign of spring!

However, more research revealed another explanation. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver visited the Naudowessie (Dakota) and other Native American tribes and wrote that the name Worm Moon refers to a different sort of “worm”— beetle larvae—which begin to emerge from the thawing bark of trees and other winter hide‐outs at this time.

There are quite a few names for the March Moon that speak to the transition from winter to spring. Some refer to the appearance (or reappearance) of certain an‐imals, such as the Eagle Moon, Goose Moon (Algonquin, Cree), or Crow Comes Back Moon (Northern Ojibwe), while others refer to signs of the season:

• starts to flow.

The Sugar Moon (Ojibwe) marks the time of year when the sap of sugar maples

• this time of year.

The Wind Strong Moon (Pueblo) refers to the strong, windy days that come at

• of sunlight that reflect off the melting snow of late winter.

The Sore Eyes Moon (Dakota, Lakota, Assiniboine) highlights the blinding rays

March’s full Moon often plays a role in religion, too. Specifically, in Christi‐anity, this Moon is known as the Lenten Moon if it is the last full Moon of the winter season (i.e., if it occurs before the spring equinox) or as the Paschal Full Moon if it is the first full Moon of spring (i.e., if it occurs after the spring equinox).

This year, March’s full Moon (March 25, 2024) occurs after the spring equinox (March 19, 2024), making it the Paschal Moon. March’s full Moon will be the first full Moon of the spring season and, therefore, will determine the date of Easter this year.

ICONIC SCREEN COUPLES

What makes a memorable movie besides the all important story line? Often it is the chemistry be‐tween the two lead characters that drives the film into classic status or being highly acclaimed for years after it was made. Just think of the 1939 Academy Award winning film, Gone with the Wind and the relationship between Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler, played by Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. It’s impossible to picture any other couple in these roles, especially the last scene where Butler walks out the door and tersely says, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.” For that time period these words were almost scandalous. Think about another old time movie, the African Queen, made in 1951. Billed as a “drama/romance” the two leads, Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn were the only two that could have sailed through those treacherous waters, making the journey believable during this WWII classic film. Once again Bogart was part of an unforgettable pair when he had starred ear‐lier in the 1942 Casablanca. That time his leading lady was played by Ingrid Bergman in this war time ro‐mance and thriller and the chemistry between the two made the film the long time classic it remains. With just these two roles, African Queen and Casablanca, Bogart’s range as an actor was undisputable. Another repeatedly told love story is the William Shakespeare’s tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet, touching to make any reader feel their sorrow. This same storyline was updated in 1961 replacing the courts of Italy with a rival gang street conflict in New York City, with a ro‐mance between leads, Maria and Tony. West Side Story was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won 10,

including best picture. It was the second highest gross‐ing film of the year, proving a love story sells well.

But what about TV couples? One of the most popular comedy series that remains a favorite during rerun on channels devoted to old time programs has to be I Love Lucy. This series was the perfect combina‐tion of “screwball” slapstick comedy and viewers were able to watch a real life married couple work together every week in a successful show. Even popular a pop‐ular television western series starred a married couple entwined in a different adventure each week. Viewers watched weekly episodes of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and also starring Roy’s horse, Trigger. One can’t even imagine saying Roy’s name without immediately added “and Dale Evans”.

How many iconic couples can you name from hints below?

1. What movie were Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Bur‐ton working on together when they first met and began their romance?

2. What Disney cartoon couple is known for sharing an Italian dinner together, where they kiss after nibbling on the opposite ends of the same strand of spaghetti?

3. Pretty Woman was the film that paired what two ac‐tors in this romantic comedy/drama where the hero rescues the woman from the life she was leading?

4. Rose and Jack, star crossed lovers, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, sailed together on what fa‐mous ship?

5. Demi Moore contacts her late husband played by Patrick Swayze, through a “medium” in what movie?

Answers: l. Cleopatra; 2. Lady and the Tramp; 3. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts; 4. Titanic; 5. Ghost
