The next chapter in mental health

Thriving at every stage of life

At Montage Health, we believe mental health is fundamental to whole-person health.

Thanks to visionary donors, we brought that belief to life with Ohana — our nationally recognized center for youth mental health. It’s already transforming lives across Monterey County, offering healing and hope to thousands of children, teens, and their families.

Now, it’s time to write the next chapter.

With your support, we can elevate our mental health services across the entire lifespan — supporting our community at every stage of life.

The need

Mental health isn’t just a youth issue — it’s a lifelong need.

Job stress, caregiving responsibilities, trauma, grief, relationship struggles, and the weight of daily demands all take a toll on our emotional wellbeing.

1 in 5 adults experienced major depression last year 1 in 6 struggle with substance use 6% live with serious mental illness, requiring more intensive care

These are not just numbers — they’re family, neighbors, coworkers, and friends. Yet too often, people are left waiting for care or navigating a fragmented system at the very moment they need help most.

Our response

Today, Montage Health is already a lifeline for many adults in our community. We offer a range of vital mental health services including:

• Outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy

• Substance use recovery services

• Partial-hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs

• A crisis stabilization unit

• Inpatient psychiatric care

These programs are doing critical work every day. But demand is significantly outpacing what we currently provide.

We know we must do more.

The opportunity

By extending our proven Ohana model into adult services, we have the chance to create something extraordinary: a seamless, lifelong system of care.

With bold philanthropic investment, we can:

• Invest in prevention and early intervention, reaching people before crisis

• Expand adult therapy and psychiatry, ensuring no one has to wait for the most in-demand care

• Develop specialized programs to treat the unique challenges adults face

• Bridge the gap between youth and adult services, creating true continuity of care

• Bring whole-person, family-centered care to adults, modeled on Ohana’s success

• Continue to grow Ohana for youth and families

Impact spotlights

Explore examples of what we can build together.

Integrated care for older adults

Older adults face unique mental health challenges — from isolation and cognitive decline to depression and complex medical needs. Too often, these concerns are underdiagnosed or undertreated.

Successful mental health interventions become more complex as the number of conditions increases, and patients 65 years old and above have a higher incidence of multiple illnesses. Mental health conditions, particularly depression, can also increase the risk of physical comorbidities like diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Co-occurring treatments often means more than one medication is required, which adds another layer to consider and manage.

Despite the critical need, geriatric mental health remains one of the most under-resourced areas of care.

Visionary philanthropy can help us:

• Pilot an integrated geriatric psychiatry program with therapists, nurse navigators, and social workers

• Create a centralized, senior-friendly location for easier access to care

• Coordinate treatment across primary care, psychiatry, and neurology

• Partner with community groups to combat isolation, build support networks, and reduce stigma

Supporting

mothers and families

Becoming a parent is one of life’s most profound transitions, yet for many women it comes with significant mental health challenges.

Despite the prevalence, maternal mental health remains deeply under-recognized and under-resourced. Stigma, lack of specialized providers, and fragmented systems of care often prevent mothers from getting the timely support they need. Early intervention can be life-changing — protecting maternal health, strengthening family bonds, and ensuring brighter futures for children.

With philanthropic investment, Montage Health can expand a maternal mental health initiative that provides compassionate, coordinated care for mothers and families

Early intervention for young adults

Approximately 75% of all people who will develop psychosis in their lifetime experience their first episode between the ages of 16 and 26.

This age range represents a critical window for early intervention, which is why targeted programs for transitional-age youth (16–26) are considered essential in preventing long-term disability and improving recovery outcomes.

Ohana can build skills and provide continuity toward adult services with early diagnosis, but currently the patient drop-off at 18 is severe. Creating targeted support for 16–26-year-olds with experiencing mental illness is a critical need.

With donor investment, we can:

• Create a targeted early psychosis pilot program that provides continuity from youth to adult care

• Offer specialized case management, therapy, and family counseling to stabilize patients and support recovery

• Protect against long-term harm by catching mental illness at its earliest, most treatable stages

Growing care to meet demand

Healing healthcare takes people — skilled, compassionate caregivers who can listen deeply, connect meaningfully, and walk alongside patients and families through their most vulnerable moments.

As demand for our services grows, so must our team.

Growing tomorrow’s caregivers: Our partnership with California State University Monterey Bay is a powerful opportunity to build the future of mental health care from right here in our community. With donor support, we can help develop a dedicated track within their Master of Social Work program — and offer scholarships to promising students who want to help our community heal and thrive.

Strengthening our team from within: Supporting children and adults in crisis requires exceptional strength and compassion. But even the most committed professionals need support of their own. That’s why we’re investing in leadership development, wellness initiatives, and resilience-building tools to keep our teams healthy and well.

With your help, we can ensure that every patient who needs care has a team ready to answer the call.

Your partnership can write the next chapter

We’ve seen what’s possible when a community comes together to transform care. With visionary donor partnership, we’ve built Ohana. Now, we’re ready to build on that success.

By expanding Ohana across the lifespan, we can bring healing, hope, and health to people of every age.

We know what works. We know where to start. What we need now is you.

This next chapter depends on donor leadership. Together, we can help our community build lasting mental wellness.
