THE world of Fashion h always influenced what we pu in our homes. Whether th was 18th century ladies havin their gowns match their gran damask wallpaper - or - th beaded fringed flapper dress of the 20s inspiring fringe armchairs or sequine cushions. Whatever mode w in for a particular perio interior design inexplicab followed

For monochrome design & palettes you need only look to a 100 years ago, with the likes of Coco Chanel when he created her little black dress & her iconic tweed suit, to see how black & white became a minimalistic aesthetic for the hoipolloi In interior design one of the new “masters” came n the form of British designer Syrie Maugham who revolutionised the 20s & 30s with designing rooms all in one one - white Jean-Michel Frank (whom we covered his legacy in ISSUE 03) helped modernise design in the 30s by becoming influenced by the fashion et crowd & the burgeoning taste for impler things Fashion sets trends hat inspire homes, they all follow one-another

THOUGH Art Deco & the rise of Mid-Century Modern may have evoked this idea of fashion-come-interior design, today this is even more-so the case when a wealth of designers use specific colours for a season, months down the line you will find the colour in everything from cushions to vases to candles to furniture. Shapes & silhouettes can also inv interior designers architects to create sim designs to innovate home. The likes of Cristo Balenciaga in the 30s to 5 with his unique take on l in tailoring his dresses g rise to women, specifica seeing themselves, their s & their surroundings i new way, such as Eil Gray when she began pioneer modernism.

What has aided the influence of fashion into interiors was the emphasis on the media & publishing such as magazines like Vogue Employing the attributes of iconic & provocative photographers such as Helmut Newton, Patrick Demarchelier & Tim Walker, these artists help create a fantasy world around fashion that people then want in their own lives & homes Whether its an intimate more sensual environment such as a bedroom or even a open plan lounge & dining room, designers who innovate these spaces inextricably are inspired by the very fashion their clients wear to go into those rooms

The rise of fashion trends & photography in the 50s & especially the 60s were far more intune with interior design than previously, with the likes of space-age design popularised by Pierre Cardin gave rise to more futuristic minimalist designers like Eero Saarinen They were able to capture a moment in design that may have only been “trendy” for a short period but have since become iconic of an era

For me, personally speaking, the monochrome palettes of classic designers such as Chanel & Dior has also influenced my style, as well as modern day high fashion which tends to, every season, depending on the designer, create a lot of neutral colours that become en vogue From Calvin Klein who revolutionised plainer simpler garments in white to Tom Fords infamous ‘heroin chic’ collection for Gucci with almost all black & dark grey clothes
