We Welcome

Dear Friends,

Our 2021-2022 season was an important one for us on many levels. We began the year with a new venture, The Hanover Theatre Repertory’s (THT Rep) outdoor production of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Staged on the steps of Worcester’s City Hall, the project was both ambitious and rewarding. Despite significant challenges, we collaborated and partnered with our community and corporate supporters to engage with new audiences and thrive as an organization. The COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown forced us to discover and implement new strategies to stay connected with our supporters, and this production was a successful step in that direction.

In September 2021, following eighteen months of pandemic closure for actors and audiences alike, we reopened our mainstage to a sold-out show and standing ovation for local star Ricky Duran. In the weeks and months since, it’s become clear to us that while some audience members are eager to visit us again, others are slow to return. As you’ll see from the financial statements included in this report, however, we’ve not only survived the shutdown, but have found innovative ways to create new opportunities for improvement, strengthened engagement and inclusive expansion.

Our conservatory and education division celebrated five years and continued their growth. The Youth Acting Company and Youth Ballet Company performed multiple productions, including June’s fully produced presentation of Godspell in the BrickBox Theater at the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC).

The coming year will be an important one as well. Our first full season of plays by THT Rep in the BrickBox Theater will delight and entertain new audiences with diverse offerings. We look forward to the completed renovation of the Francis R. Carroll Plaza with the outdoor Bank of America Stage on our doorstep so that we can offer even more opportunities for free programming to our community, our partners and our patrons. We look forward to celebrating these milestones and more in next year’s report to the community.

With gratitude for your ongoing support,

Lisa Hill McDonough Chair of the Board
