Farm Life - the honey makers
by Roger Hill
The farming calendar rolls on with harvesting in full swing. After a cold spring, crops caught up very quickly. A burst of hot sunshine and heavy showers resulted in the fastest growing period for many years. Unfortunately weeds also galloped away.

Even though the jobs on the farm never relent, there is the saying that ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ In other words it is essential that we make the effort to have a work-life balance. As I mentioned last month, it is show season which provides the chance to have a few hours away. For the sport enthusiasts amongst us, this summer is a bonanza on TV - cricket, football, rugby, athletics and much more provide a welcome relaxation.
Back to the harvest but a little different one for us - honey. The abundance of wild flowers around our small vineyard have been pure heaven for the bees.
Again the late spring diminished food supplies initially because our buzzy friends did very little flying. They certainly have caught up of late! I cannot wait to taste the new season’s honey harvest on the homemade bread my wife makes for us and our guests.
‘Til next time, Roger #TuppertheTractor (website: quoit-at-cross.co.uk)
