The Flood
A new Molong flood and risk management study underway
Cabonne Council has engaged consultants to undertake a review and update of the Molong Flood Study and Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan, the latter which was completed in 2011. The first stage of the project is the review and update of the Molong Flood Study which will involve the development of state-of-the-art computer models which will be used to define flood behaviour along Molong Creek, Boree Hollow, Moss Hollow Creek and Foys Creek. The study will also define the nature of major overland flow which occurs as a result of surcharge of the local stormwater drainage system. Mayor Kevin Beatty has welcomed the review of the study and noted its importance. “An update to the flood study and plan will provide up-to-date data and mapping which will assist in delivering further flood mitigation works to reduce the impacts to the community”, Cr Beatty said.

The study is being undertaken by Council with funding assistance from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment and is set to run over the course of the next 18 months. Council will shortly issue a Community Questionnaire to residents and business owners in Molong seeking information on their experience of historic flooding dating back to the flood of March 1956. Any Molong residents who do not receive a questionnaire and who Jack Thomas, just one of the Molong Bulls Rugby League team's star players from last year will wish to contribute information are step up to the position of First Grade Coach in 2023 Jack's father, Mark Thomas will again lead the Youth League side and Ged Fulwood will mentor invited to contact Council using the contact details below or visit his Ladies League Tag.
