Town Talk

by Rozzi and contributors

As the heat of summer deepens ... can we look to a very hot February? When we were kids one could always be assured that return to school meant ‘deep heat’ - where staying awake in any kind of subject stretched our after lunch droopy eyes, heads held onto hands in the hope that vigilant teachers would not give us the favoured wake up call - cane hitting our desks. Afternoons meant being totally ready with ports packed ... shoelaces tied up and shirt sleeves rolled up ready for the pool dash.

Like others in Molong ... I am really concerned about the state of the Western Stores building after the November flood.

The posts holding up the verandah awning were put into place some years ago as a temporary ‘safety’ measure apparently to prevent the awning from falling. Temporary?

More worrying - kids and others may be tempted to walk through the flood damaged open doors and windows of the building where the Carpet Shop was - and down the passage way past damaged offices and the gym etc. It looks dangerous!

OH&S safety tape to stop entry? We wait!

I’m sure there will be an excuse about why this has not been done ... (isn’t there always!) but the Express has been asking the question - it’s about community safety. Has Cabonne Council met with the landlords to ensure the safety of this old Molong icon? And, that of residents?

Last year, local volunteers came together with President of the Molong Historical Society Bob Sullivan to remove the old verandah of the Molong Museum, and to instal a brand new one. Last week Express noticed Bob, Cameron Wild and Rob Laffin placing the former iron lace - that has been sandblasted and painted. Looks great. Museum open on Thursdays for research, taking a look around ... .there’s some great stuff going on the corner of Gidley and Riddell Street. Join in?

Imagine this being allowed in Cabonne’s food sector!! The three organisers of the Molong Australia Day Committee arrived to find what we could only describe as a health hazard in the Rec. Kiosk for last week’s event. To the point where for health and safety reasons - food was prepared outside because of the risk to residents and guests attending. Looks like Cabonne Council did a wash out (maybe two or three) of the facility after the November flood - but scrubbing out the cupboards and other spots (see above) was a really dismal find.
