New chefs plate up “stunning” meals
Around the traps
Lovely to reunite a family member with some old treasures. The Molong Historical Museum recently posted a photo (below) of a beautiful old violin handmade by George Neville of Copper Hill. The museum curators were delighted when George’s great nephew came to the museum especially to find his Neville and Farrell family history. He was thrilled to be reunited with his great-uncle George Neville’s handmade violin and the very old timber clock housed in the museum. He was provided plenty of
information from family records and was then able to locate headstones in the cemetery. We are always so excited to share our knowledge and history with people and this “family history” tourism brings many visitors to our beautiful little town. Interested in who you are? Head to the Molong Museum any Sunday and Thursday from 10am- 2pm (good idea to book in before so that our volunteers can start looking for your family history). RSL farewells Ben after three years, and welcomes a package deal - Evan and Connor
RSL Chefs Connor Aimes, Evan Butcher are welcomed by Ben Agar who will leave for Sydney after three years in Molong. There’s been a change of chef’s at the Molong RSL Bistro with Ben Agar leaving for Sydney after three years creating some of the best menus and delicious foods for locals, visitors and the many events held at the venue. “I love Molong,” he said. “It’s a really positive town and working at the club has been a worthwhile experience. Mary (Mulhall - President of the club) is the best boss I have ever had.” We wish Ben well in his new role and life in Sydney where he is looking forward to a Monday to Friday job in the hospitality sector. Welcome to Evan Butcher and Connor Amies who have come to the RSL Bistro in
Molong from Waratahs Club (Orange). Evan has been a chef for some 18 years and Connor has cheffed for eight years. “We came together as a ‘package deal,” said Connor. “Evan has been my mentor and we really like working together.” What kind of foods will they serve? “Plain, country-style foods” said Evan. Last week, the Express really enjoyed the saltwater Barramundi served with baked vegetables. On Sunday regular lunchers were very pleased with the slow braised lamb shanks served with mash and peas. “Stunning” was the response after the “meltin-your-mouth meat” had been eaten - all that was left on the plates were bones. The RSL Bistro is open Wednesdays to Sundays for lunch and dinner.

Thanks to the efforts of former Cabonne councillor and Deputy Mayor, Wendy Pankhurst, Molong will see the return of a local tradition - in fact international tradition - the Debutante Ball. The Express has heard that a small advert placed for Wendy by the Molong Express has received positive response from young women and men for what has been a centuriesold tradition. Wendy’s approach in bringing back the Debutante Ball (also an important charity fundraising event) is creating positive interest around town and district. So far, 13 debs have come forward for the big event on 16 September 2023. Who will be the trainer? Maybe Ann Wright will be forced out of retirement? Ann has trained many a deb and partners in social etiquette and traditional dance routines for generations of Molong and District’s young
people. Keep the date on your calendar. We should all be heading to the event to applaude the return of one of Molong and district’s traditions. In the meantime, the Express is looking for past Deb photos held in Molong, Manildra, Cumnock, Cudal throughout history. Call Rozzi 0490 734 650.
