Communiqué

Convention is an agreement between two or more states for regulation or matters and concerning matters of common interest.

Communiqué is a brief public summary statement or report issued following important bilateral or multilateral meetings.

Convention is supposedly used for lesser matters than embraced in a treaty, it often deals with important subjects indeed – international postal and copyright laws.

Communiqué tend to be bland and full of stock phrases such as “full and frank discussions”, and the likes. Occasionally, obtaining agreement on the communiqué turns out to be the most difficult part of the meeting.

Guarantee Agrément Guarantee is a treaty which requires signatories to guarantee that situations agreed upon will be maintained, or an assurance for the fulfillment of a condition. The honoring of such commitments can precipitate armed conflicts. The first known use of the word was detected back to 1680.

Agrément or also known as official approval is required before a state appoints a new chief of diplomatic mission to represent it in another state; to ascertain whether the proposed appointee is acceptable to the receiving state. It is unusual for an agrément to be refused, but it occasionally happens. The first known use of the word was detected back to 1705-1715.

Modus Vivendi Diplomatically, a modus Vivendi is an instrument or a temporary agreement for establishing an international accord, between persons or parties pending a negotiation or a settlement of matters in debate. The first known use of the word was detected back to 1875-1880.
