A contemporary adaptation of Homer's epic work, The Acting Company's Odyssey reimagines this ancient epic in a modern setting. Four women waiting in the limbo of a refugee center reenact Odysseus' adventures as they struggle with their own search for a home. Based on a revelatory new translation by Emily Wilson, the bold theatricality of this production finds new humor and grace in a story we may think we know.
The Acting Company is the only professional theatre principally dedicated to the development of young classical actors. Founded in 1972 by John Houseman and Margot Harley from the first graduating class of the Drama Division of The Juilliard School, the Company has launched the careers of some 400 actors, including Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, David Schramm, Keith David, Rainn Wilson, Lorraine Toussaint, Frances Conroy, Harriet Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Hamish Linklater, Jesse L. Martin, and Roslyn Ruff, while bringing high-quality professional theatre to hundreds of communities from coast to coast.
