MAMA by Middagh Goodwin

I really can’t believe how quick this year has flown by. So many good times are already behind us, and we are just half way through. This is year two of my involvement behind the scenes with Modesto Area Music Awards and so far things are looking great; adding a new category (Latin) and changing a few other things to make this year even better. Voting is set to go live on August 15th with the Awards Ceremony on October 20th at the State Theater. Thanks to everyone who came out to see Broken Toys at my first ever show at the Gallo Center. If you missed it you truly missed an incredible event. The guest vocalists (Hines/Boggs/Westphal) were incredible and returned to the stage along with the Gregori High Orchestra for the finale; a emotionally charged version of Dear Prudence leading into the chorus of Hey Jude. You can get a copy of the 25th Anniversary DVD/CD

from Wire and Woods LTD. paypal $20ppd to wireandwoodltd@gmail.com. This year will also mark another first for me, I have put together some of the best local (DEZU/Before 20) and bands from across the state (Monkey Asian Man Records)/Stupid Flanders) for the first ever SKA Stage at X-Fest. If you like SKA come on out and show your support; If you need tickets, get in touch with me. We will be right outside of Fuzio so you can DANCE in the shade, The Brew Ha Ha is back and Leon Gibson is headlining at the Blackwater Republic in Stockton on August 21st. He is one of the funniest comedians the area has to offer and recently won the #209Comedy Competition. As always Jimmie Menezes (2014 Comedy) will be hosting and will have a packed bill with local and regional comics.

Speaking of comics... Stockton-Con is August 8th and 9th at the Stockton Arena and celebrates pop culture from comic books to cosplay. Next year on July 9th and 10th I am proud to be involved in Modesto-Con. Like us on facebook and be the first to know about all the great things we have planned. August 9th celebrate the 5th Annual ModStock (2014 Small Event) at Graceada Park. It is going to be a Rock and Roll Circus. This is a free event and starts at 10am. Featuring some of the best up and coming young acts along with some of Modesto’s favorites. August 29th you will be treated to shades of Off the Air as A.H.Collective bring French Cassettes (2010 Alt Rock) back to Modesto along with Spooky Mansion and Pacific Lung (2014 Pop Rock) to Café Deva 7:30pm $5. MAMA Records is working on a compilation the winners of the past. If you are a past MAMA winner we want you to be included, send CD quality (FLAC files) songs to mamarecords209@gmail.com. The interest in this has been pretty great so far and we think you are all going to love it. Also speaking of MAMA, the Modesto Area Music Awards are going to be upon us sooner then you think. If you have any suggestions for #MAMAnees

send them to us for consideration. This is your scene your music so make sure you are a part of it. Every Sunday, Cafe Deva starts the morning with some of the best singer songwriters in town start the morning off with a hot cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Sunday night is Open Mic (2013 Small Event at the Queen Bean (2013 Restaurant/Cafe). With so much going on each and every month there is no reason why you can’t make it out at least once to see some live local music.
