Maximalism in the woods (lynne project) Project Goals: In this project we want to align and elevate the rooms to create comfort, more utility in dining, and cohesion with the eclectic touches of art, antiques and objects that tell the story of this family. We are leaning into maximalism while maintaining cohesion and thoughtfulness, adding pops of red and orange, finding a way to highlight the client’s art and create greater utility in seating for this family of five.

This mood board booklet will show you visuals of ideas for objects of each of the three rooms we discussed. I used the whole range of price points, even if you love an item that doesn’t work with the budget we can find a comparable (dupe) that will have the same visual effect. I chose mostly red and oranges, tans, greys and whites. Often, many of these items come in large range of colors, so look for the form, quality and look you like.

This booklet is a visual reference of some of the ideas. use the pinterest board for your project to explore options in greater detail as More options are on the pinterest board than the. booklet. Ideas Living Room Consider making the whole back wall dark blue/charcoal (Or another dark bold color emerald green etc) and putting up the art as gallery wall (especially since its the studio/ art/entertainment room). Look to the paint section of your pinterest board for ideas and articles on this. If you wanted to go really bold you could paint the whole room ceiling included a bold rich color. This would pop your art and antiques really well, but it is a bold move.

If you do a bold wall color you want contrast with furniture color, bold color or accent wall could also be a wall treatment, like limestone washing.

Look to pinterest paint board for examples on this.

I would move the cabinet in the center of room to another room to add room for dining and a greater focus on the art. It also gives some breathing space to the room and its unique sections (art studio/dining/fire seating theatre). use rugs to align the maximalism look and to allocate the seating and fireplace section of the room and ground the room. This is the key place you can add any bold color and/or print cheaply and move it out when you get sick of it. The contrast with between the rug and dark wall and antiques will add some dimension to the design. keep the dining section and chairs as useful and simple as possible. I would use wood and low profile I also like the idea of black to have it kind of fall into the background. I also think some exotic wood like burlwood would be excellent with your art, antiques, worldly vibe. furniture should be elegant. clean lined. and a bit luxe to create a nice tension between all the wood antiques and the custom old world feel of the home.

There is so much life in objects in your home from the real art, to the books, to the antiques. I think luxe materials and colors would work so well with the English charm it already has going. If you do decide to go with bold walls think balance and contrast with color choices in furniture. If you want to go bold also think of the opposing colors on the color wheel.

Dining IDeas Go with simple lines: I like a simple lined parsons table for this room as its elegant and simple lined, but isn’t overpowering visually as so much is going on.

Try an interesting wood and or/Black: I chose options in black or interesting woods (burlwood, acacia, mango etc). I really think some burlwood touches would pop in your home somewhere. YOu Also could try sculptural touches and or a curved table. The last two crate and barrel options have a sculptural and rounded quality that are also very aesthetically pleasing.

Keep the chair a simple wood or a low profile luxe material:You need compact, stylish chairs that don’t take up too much space. I love a simple wood chair in the room if we are going with more detailed and elevated living spaces.

kitchen nook notes Consider a higher seated banquette for the kitchen seating. I posted ideas and articles on your pinterest board about banquettes. You could do a corner banquette seating with two dining chairs or low stool to round out the table. You could also leave two of the dining chairs from the other room here.

Place a large mirror or family photo collection above seating.There is a HUGE Ikea circle mirror That I adore that I think would be perfect above either baquette or couch. I also love the idea of a family picture gallery collection here. A large mirror to reflect the gorgeous kitchen will open up the space. IT can also be used to highligh table staging (vase and branches, Great artistic pendant etc.)

YOu could go really maximalist or minimalist with the style/print design of the couch and/or banquette here. if you loved florals, stripes, Red, blush pink, emerald Green, tufting, leather, Etc, Etc anything could really work here and its a place to be as creative or simple as you prefer.

I would have a large diameter circle table in this room and or circle dining table. YOu want it big enough for eating like a high end lounge. I would have a circle table as the rounded edges makes the movement of the room more fluid.

I made a section on your board called items of interest, they are an eclectic grouping that I felt would work good in your space or inspiration for finds for your office. Above are some examples....

office book room NOtes I like homes that give each person of the couple a dominant room. In your home, you have the art room with the deep gallery wall and easel station to the left of the house and to the right of the house, Your space and office, your little jewel box, or sanctuary etc.

Add seating I think this library/office definitely needs a comfortable perch to read and think on. I love, love, love the bookcase and table and think this room would be elevated by placing a great loveseat or chaise to read and sit in Think about ITEMS you Love: Consider your bold favorite color, speciality lighting, a colorful rug for texture. You don’t need anything new in this room, really, but I think this would be a place for you to creatively explore more. I could see nods to different styles work so well here. I could see a rice paper latern, a burlwood desk, a french deco chaise... So much could work here. Its just figuring out what you love and putting it in this room.

This is a place for what lights you up! I would find your dream art, light fixture, color or couch and center the room around that stand out piece. iF there is something you have always loved I would choose that first and work the room around it.

I put ideas on the pinterest board for this room for seating, lighting, Furnitureand rugs that It think would look good in the space. But, I think this is the a place to center on your own tastes really distinctly!

Pick your favorite colors & themes and must have items first.

You definitely can mix metals, colors, time periods, prices points, patterns and tones (and you should). A well curated mix-mash is great for maximalism. Its best though to start working on the room with a more constrained view and expand later after your basics are set. Pick what you love first (I know I want gold french mirror, I know I want a chandelier, I love emerald green velvet etc.) Find your must haves first and then mix it up around those pieces. Even with maximalism you still need some cohesion and alignment with color groups and general design aesthetic so the end result is congruent.

LOok for contrast between walls and furniture and a variety in the materiality of items. I like integrating some velvets, boucles, metals and mirrors with the dense woods and intricate art. This creates polarity to the room and balances the masculine and feminine aspects of the design.

The boards have both accessible and aspirational items, but I think you can get the same feel of the design both ways. If you like an item we can always find a close match, so if you like the shape but its cost excessive don’t count it out as we can find an alternative.

Your space is so interesting and maximalism is very fun. I feel maximalism is a great choice for your space in the woods.
